MvC2: Dozens of characters, most of which are played to some frequency by one or more of the better players in the competitive scene because most of the characters are interesting and effective in-game. Players typically rely on heavy button mashing which usually results in several 2- and 3-man combos in a single match when done right.

QL: Technically one character. Players typically rely on either camping which usually results in 100 dmg done per person per minute since everyone's camping and scared, or peeking corners and spamming shotty back-and-forth over and over again which usually results in half that because said players can't aim and are pussies.

Conclusion: You're suggesting the wrong game to the wrong people.

yeah i know it's not on PC, but some of you i'm sure have x360 or ps3 so i figured i'd throw it out there.

and yeah there are over 50 characters and in tournaments it's rare to see more than 12 of them used. but in quake everyone has the exact same moves and exact same weapons, the question comes down to how well do you use them. the fact that mvc2 has 30+ irrelevant characters doesn't take anything away from high level game play.

i'm just throwing this out there because i really think some quake players would really enjoy the game

most quakers are ignorant to other games.. same goes to most fighting game players. it's to be expected.

also marvel isn't a good game to pickup for people who haven't played a fighting game before. it looks totally random and excessive to the untrained eye :)

yeah i know but that's why i'm trying to do here, crack the ignorance. and marvel being "excessive" to me is actually a reason why quake players should realize mvc2 is similar in that respect quake. to a new player, quake just seems insane and as you know tons of new players honestly think these guys are cheating because you can get overwhelmed SO badly. this is true for mvc2 also.

I honestly think that the popular option, ssf4, is a better pick for people new to the fighting game scene.

For a 1 on 1 game, SSF4 is actually very complex with parrying, focus, super AND ultra specials, all sorts of priorities to memorize if you wanna be good, etc. Not to mention the top players are some of the smartest I've seen in gaming, and I can imagine the competitive scene is thus going to be ridiculously stacked.

Tekken's much better than SSF4 in this regard. Combos flow at a much slower pace, there's lots of juggling so you usually don't have to worry about getting countered in the middle of a combo, and there's stuff like being able to hit a downed opponent and rollbacks and very simple throw cancels that also caters well to newbies.

ssf4 with parrying? countering during combos? man, i dislike ssf4 strongly but atleast get your facts right

haha. I dunno how you managed to miss this but quakers are pretty much the most open competitive community other than the semi-casual ones, those who play the newest games, even if they only accept hardcore games and debate on every single Quake setting for months.

Actually, it's a great game for non-fighting fans to pick up because the mechanics of the game reward button mashing and it's 3 on 3 so there's tons of room for error when novices play each other.

Trying to learn MvC2 is way little too late. The game is nearly dead. Also, the skill gap is too huge. It's something like QW's player base. The only people left that are playing the game are either too good and experienced, or are very knowledgeable about their game.

It's almost fall and MvC3 is suppose to come out next spring, I think. Just play TvC or SSF4 instead.

it seems that way but it's not that simple. are you a quake player? i'll assume yes. would you recommend people new to fps to play CS? i hope not, i know i wouldn't. i'd tell them to start on quake, get your ass whooped over and over again and then when you get good, the game gets more fun than CS ever could have been. the skill gap in quake is friggin huge too.

you could say quake is or was dead at a lot of points in time. but here we are, still playing quake. somehow games like these survive even though it seems like they shouldn't. i'm trying to tell anynoe who is willing to listen, there's something special about the game of quake. those of us that love the game, we know it. we can feel it. if you get to know mvc2, i think you'll feel the same way. that's all i'm saying

There's nothing wrong with picking up or playing a dead game. It's just more easy to do with the Quake games since there hasn't been a truly new game in the series since Q3, and each game seems to have players who are loyal to it.

gl though bro. You're going to have a hard time to convince anyone to stick around once MvC3 comes out. All the hype, "money and fame" will be with that game, so most people won't have a reason to play MvC2. SF4 already killed competition for all of the other Capcom fighters. MvC3 is going to snatch up the few remaining people who refused to play SF4. All you'll have with MvC2 is online play, which is no good since the netcode for it sucks.
