why not on the horizontal plane ?

its like hitting a wall; youll lose most of your speed if you jump it like that, which also makes it a bit more difficult to actually get up. with the side, youll get up easier, and keep most of your speed, so its better in every way

Makes sense if you can reach it with speed (i.e. from ya stairs), otherwise it's faster with the edges.

I never noticed because it's pretty easy to do isn't it?

its a jump, because you jump from A to B as opposed to walking or rocket boosting from A to B.

Easy jumps are hard. It's surprising how often the pros screw it up in competition, although that they screw it up at all is surprising. It's kinda like jumping from shotgun platform to RA on ZTN. Sure, that's not really a 'trick jump', but it's still a jump you'd better make sure you can make every time.

damn right. i practiced this jump for a couple hours on end one day, and now i make it almost every time. of course, when i was practicing i was using the front and not the side so....

all jumps get harder when there is pressure involved :)

It's much easier when jump is mouse2 instead of space bar

One day while playing defrag, my keyboard arm started to hurt, I self diagnosed an overused thumb on the spacebar (jump) I moved it to mouse2, and have NEVER looked back! I can't play any other way now! I thought I was a freak.

How many of you guys use mouse2 for jump?

let's suggest a poll (that said, maybe it has already been done, but esr searching tool is so bad) ; I bet it's 50% mouse 2, 35%spacebar, the rest otherwise

modern fps have made most people accustomed to use spacebar. mouse2 is an "old school" idea. I would expect more on spacebar for sure

mouse 2 is quake (and its clones) only trend afaik, since its gameplay relies so much on jumping

yeah, I've always jumped with space, but since a couple of weeks, I've switched to mouse2 as well. It seems easier to rj now, but it still is a bit weird and I still don't strafejump as smooth as before (& thus move a bit slower). Jumping in the middle of a fight is also a bit difficult, as I basically need to press both mouse buttons at the same time. But I'm sure in the long run it will be better.

You can either flick jump off the side of the pillar things, or if you are coming from YA, strafe jump up the stairs so that you land on the one pillar thing.
