Other than that, this wasn't the first tournament at a Cebit. And it's wednesday, I'll give it till friday until I write it off as a fail.

more like things that make it difficult to organize the tournament properly

not just normal people btw, shitload of crazy 'skipping school for an exhibition' and 'steal anything that aint nailed to the ground' teenagers

i sincerely doubt cs/wow/quake matches impressed any accidental bystanders, the whole place was full of nerds who know the games already and normal people most probably avoided the place

It's a few years back since I've been to Cebit but I really haven't seen that many school kids. Due to the high ticket prices. But now it's easier to get free passes so maybe that changed.


Well, if you aren't gonna attract people at a computer fair, you might as well give up advertising the game completely.

I am not saying they should not advertise at all, but a stand in one of the main pavilions with a bunch of showmatches would be better value for money and attract outsiders instead of people who already know enough about ESL to go and watch their bloody tournament!

I said it before and I'll say it again.

Had ESL just streamed Rick Roll on a loop for the whole day, I probably would have been less peeved.

Fact is that companies are putting up money to give to some nerds for playing their favorite video games (seems pretty nice of them to me), and so they expect SOMETHING in return -- in this case, a place to promote and advertise what they're selling.

When someone comes up with a good way to raise money for large tournaments without having to sell anything, then speak up.

I think the 'ESL thought it would be cool to have their own huge stand at Cebit and managed to get money from the sponsors for it' version is more likely than 'Sponsors forced ESL to get their own huge stand at Cebit'. But i can be wrong. I am trolling either way.

the truth might even be in the middle, that ESL could persuade the companies to give more money because the final is held at Cebit.

Second day is going well atleast, this could still be a success.
