This means every participant will be awarded beer points, these will be the most for the last placed and become less until the first-placed player. Because we assume, people who are out earlier will spend more time at the bar.

These points can never be transsformed into actual beer, because I need that all for myself.

Dreamhack has a ton more respect from my point of view than AGP.

Dreamhack has been around since the early 90's and is the largest LAN in the world yet AGP feels like one of these dime a dussin organisations that we seen come and go every year. It actually feels like, if anything, Dreamhack loses status by this.

i remember reading about streetrunner going to fatal1ty's house to train q4 befor the first big cpl tournament that used quake4.

2 years later he starts his own company.
3 years later he is the philantrop who pretends to be generous by awarding funny points to an already well established lan tournament and is waiting for applause.

what are the players supposed to do with these points any way? the more tournaments you play, the more you get.

is this supposed to be an indication of who is the better player? or do they actually get rewarded with something at some point? or are the points supposed to be reward enough???

Why i believe the more AGP points you have, the better Pokemon you are permitted to buy. Rapha just needs 2 more (AGP-Sanctioned) tourney wins to get Pikachu.

Also, players with AGP points will be given a chance to trade their AGP points at any Government-certified AGP Trading Booths, all you need is put your brain Chip under the skanner and choose a selection of Points.

Fatal1ty lived in my house as we had been friends since high school. I trained with him and many others (usually as an aiming bag) in Doom 3, Painkiller, and Quake 4. I was not good, but I love the games.

The AGP Rankings is a point system awarding points for all things in Quake Live, from Lans, to online tournaments, to ladders. It will take time to setup and be fair but it is a fair system based on results and attendance like other competitive games (or sports).

The AGP is an international players association.

The AGP has 400 plus members and just launched a couple months ago. Just because you guys don't get what an international players association is, or what it does and will do, doesn't mean you should just go flame everything that is announced. You are not part of it, you clearly don't care that players including most top players, are organizing and uniting and helping the game and progress of tournaments.

The pro's voted on Dreamhack after their details were released and it was passed. That is a step in the Sanctioning process for a future tournament. It means it meets the requirements that the players have created as well as creating a unified formula that tournaments in the future should go by. Dreamhack does, and was approved. It's pretty simple.

For all of you non players that have never been screwed over in tournaments, from seedings, to pay, to map pool, to sponsors, this is something worthwhile with little effort. I personally don't profit from it, and neither does my company that is quite separate from the AGP if you could read. The Rankings are something that has been needed in DM since the beginning, be it a point system or one of the others. But no one did it and the ones whom tried, well, theirs didn't make it or wasn't approved by the players.

So flame on and blame me for deciding yourself to read any announcements we post. You are 10% of the feedback we get which is, believe it or not, mostly positive and VERY supportive. If you have a problem with lack of tournaments, then sponsor some yourselves and don't blame everyone else. We were going to do online tournaments, sponsored by the AGP itself but it was voted otherwise. That's how this works. So get over it. You can sponsor things yourself if you want. Your useless nonsense on a news posting has run its course. Just don't read if you have nothing better to say than this usual bs.

There are HUGE $ tournaments going on all the time anyways right? With prize money that almost are as much as the tournaments 10 years ago. OR you could look at what you do for the community besides bitch, moan and promote your own cynical views. I'd prefer promoting Quake Live myself and the players with their histories. And I do this. Because like you all, I am a fan of all of this too.

why not make the ranking an official elo type system similar to the KESPA rankings.

This is not my call. The players are in discussions of this and it might easily be voted in as well.

Competitions that are AGP Sanctioned not only get Ranking points but are approved by the players by following the guidelines and rulesets voted by the players. While most of them do that, there have been many problems in the past in all sorts of areas in gaming that many players, even if they do not play today, have been witnesses of. This is a way to standardize this, even if it doesn't seem to be needed right now. A player association can enforce these things in many ways.

elo system by itself really doesn't do magic. you still need to evaluate tournaments, cups etc to use it in elo formula. and you are again at the begining.

why dont you name those pro's? we wont mind at all. they are our "bitches", we will still want them to entertain us.

Long term: an association is a good thing for pro gaming, ESPECIALLY Quake. Once more players join and more tournaments happen, seedings can be based off the points. It is a legitimate way to broaden the scope across multiple events.

Instead of the discretion of a tourney admin (who usually doesn't know much about the hardcore scene to be honest) creating seeds, the association has already taken care of it.

Long term this also gives the gamers leverage, and allows for a unified body to communicate to sponsors, and competitions what are wants and needs are.

If this continues to grow and people actually took the time to think about this in a practical way, you should support it and understand that it makes sense in every way.

but if the idealistic long term plan is good or not is just not the point of what most ppl post here. the sarcastic comments mostly result from how it is done/presented imho

who are you kidding? look at the seedings of all lan events prior AGP...theyre normally pretty good except for:
- players rising quickly from nowhere who wouldnt have a high agp ranking for such a reason too
- players coming back from longterm inactivity who wouldnt have a high agp ranking either (points being removed after 12 months)

i know the comparison is a little far fetched but for example the rote hilfe e.v. (red aid germany) is estimated to have around 5000 members. i'm unsure about the actual amount but most will probably pay between 3-5€ per month. granted they have a lot more issues to deal with than a gamers association will ever have but still... you desperately need lots of paying members :\

This is true and will be a possibility in the future. Need tourneys first. Lawyers aren't that big a deal because of one of our partners as well as mt bro and sis are.

Unfortunately you will need legal experts in more than one country. There are some similarities but no lawyer would go to court in a country he hasn't practiced in.

Why did 'the pro's' have to vote on whether dreamhack would give the players AGP points when i see lots of little tournaments on this site handing out points to the players who placed 1st to 8th?
It seems that surley handing out points to a major event would be much more worth while than these tournaments which don't have most of the top players competing in them (or atleast its the same players each week), i just figured that the top lan events would be almost guaranteed to be giving AGP points out.

so why not keep this news for the 40 AGP members who actually care and post it on the site? 40 isn't a typo but the number who actually care...the rest were just forced to sign up by "AGP sanctioned tournaments" telling people they need an account on your site

edit: Also, I'm pretty sure I've spent more promoting Quake out of my own pocket than you have. I've personally bought almost every id game to date, aside from Wolf/ETQW. I've bought a good dozen or so copies of Quake 3 for myself, 20 copies of Q3 for a LAN center in Texas, 4 copies of Q3 and 1 copy of Q4 for a LAN center in Washington, have bought the game more than a dozen times for players I was introducing to the game, put my own money up for prize on several LAN Q3 tournaments, and have spent MY free time spreading the word to every gamer I have ever met.

for winning the zotac cup you get 4 points (which i cant find anywhere on the agp site btw), for just attending dreamhack and getting last you get 45 points... hmm
sure, dreamhack is a lan and the competition is tighter, but someone winning 10 zotac cups (and that also means 1000€ cash) should have more points than a random swede going to dreamhack and being raped in every game he plays.

The Zotec and GData cups are worth small because they are weekly as well as online. - http://www.agptour.com/competitions/ This will possibly change over time with other competitions. While your point is valid, dreamhack doesn't have many random swedes in the tournament.

I find the stuff you're doing nice (or I should rather say the idea), but I also have to say things like giving 4 points to a winner of a usually stacked tournament while giving 45 points to all attendees of Dreamhack tourney make this whole thing laughable, I am 100% sure this is not only my opinion.

To give you a small hint, player would have to WIN 250!!! Zotac cups - like tourneys, to have the same ranking as player who won 1 Dreamhack.

Its based on more things than just a single online weekly tournament. It also factors in prize amount, regional or international competition, how many tournaments take place in that region, and how many tournaments (online for this example) will take place annually. We will have this entire system, available for all you to see, shortly with our updated ranking pages (in look and functionality).

Players don't pay to go to play an online tournament, and ping becomes a factor. Players that do nothing on LAN and do well online fit into this well as the live event requires alot more skill technically, or whatever you want to call it, because there is more to lose and alot more pressure. LAN is worth more because of this. Alot more.

Plus you guys are looking for only the top players. This system is going to help the lower skills more than anything. If someone wants to have an online tournament for rankings over 64, than the tournament will likely get a huge amount of players, even if not pro. This will not only help this scene in competition, but also help the game and ability of players to grow in regional rankings.

There are many benefits that might not be obvious that I am not even listing. I guess i give credit to some people more than they deserve on seeing possibility. But that's ok. All in time.

I don't know, I think on this win-win example you can perfectly see that win on DH LAN is valued 250 times more (pointwise) than win of Zotac and that just seems way too much to me.

I agree, its not right being at 250 times more, what I'm saying is it's still way more serious and in a totally different scale, so comparing Zotac with attending DH\Taking 20th-32nd place would be more accurate.

It was late in the afternoon and the secret council of the agp pro players had decided to hold a meeting.

A car raced through the parking lot of the mega-complex that held the agp offices and suddenly parked in one of the empty spots in a blink of an eye. The doors opened to reveal Fatality step out.

"Need to practice that more" he thought to himself, and made a mental note to set another 5 hour session of parking simulation run for the next day. He stepped through the automated doors and made his way to the conference room.

"How dare them to distrupt my training schedule! I have to be in the top of my game for my dm17 showmatches tomorrow. they better have a good reason" he thought to himself as he pushed open the double doored entrance to the conference room.

Inside the conference room a heated debate was going on. Clearly sides were taken and he immediately singled out the people involved in each. The remaining unknown was for what reason the pro council had called this meeting. It clearly had to be important for them to send over the agp private jet.

The room silenced as people started to notice the newcomer and people took their seats.

"Welcome fatality, you are late" stated Streetrunner.
"Like I was late to win cpl with painkiller?"

As people were subduing VoO, fatality took the last remaining seat and the round table was complete.

"I will fill you in quickly Fat, we are holding this last minute meeting to decide on whether dreamhack should be sanctioned by agp so we can hand out points for it"

Fatality flinched, this was unexpected. "This is going to be a long night" He thought to himself.

Hours later a decision was still not made. Fox was threatening to punch Foox in the face, Noctis was stating he was not qualified enough to vote, rapha was quoting random stuff from the bible, and cooller was saying this was not his trouble (whatever that meant?).

"This has to end now" Fatality thought to himself and slammed his fist on the table. "STOP YOUR SQUABBLING, I WAS WINNING CARS IN GAMING WHILE YOU WERE STILL IN DIAPERS"

Thresh lifted his eyebrows.
"Oh right, my bad. But my point still stands"
"This ends now" he continued.

Half an hour later the meeting was adjourned. A decision was made that would change the face of gaming.

what is it that the AGP actually does? The ranking systems seems a bit pointless imo... maybe we can expect another G7 styled communist take over..

the AGP has been set up to unite all of the players and allow them to grow and sustain the sport themselves through player legislation, international and regional rankings, and player/tournament sponsoring. This also includes legal representation when needed in the future. The unity will help in all aspects by showing sponsors that the players can unite and represent for the better of the sport and the NEEDED growth. Unless you are ok with $5k tournaments for the rest of Quake Live's history.

We do the AGP Classics to show the past of the sport up until now. It' simply extra, mostly because I fucking love this shit so much. Pardon the language.

I still don't see any way how the AGP will influence the amount of prizemoney and the growth of Quake Live, please explain that further.

Also what advantage have tournaments like Dreamhack or whatever by getting "AGP Sanctioning"? At the moment as someone who runs tournaments the AGP sounds something I would try to avoid.

I see a lot of goals and false promises here, but no way how to archive it, but maybe my doubts could be extinguished by explaining the doings of the AGP further.

If you haven't noticed, tournaments offer less prize $ than ever really, or at least since Quake 3 was made. Q3Test tournaments even made more. There are many reasons for this. 1 is the global recession as many previous sponsors are on sponsorship freeze or really low budgets. The AGP can help this by combining all that is needed to unite the sport as a WHOLE. Everyone working together can only help things. It's been the greed of past organizers that has really hurt the progression of esports and Quake. Not everyone fighting against eachother for $, but working together for sustainability. And the players can make this happen for once. Every sport eventually gets a player association that the players FORCE. This is just the beginning of this. It can only help. A players association can prove to sponsors that this sport is serious and unified, not splintered all over the place like in the past.

AGP is the players association, with members. The members are the players. The players are organized and vote on things, everything. They are working together for the bettering. This will keep certain things from happening as things grow. Right now there are barely any tournaments let alone any prize money to sustain any personal life or justification of time spent playing to win these tourneys. But as things do grow IF they do, players will have a way to have some control over the state of their growth and sustainability. For example, 2004 CPL chose pk over doom 3 and quake 3. Imagine the $1 million world tour being in Quake 3. We might be in a totally different place today. Players being united can actually prevent something like this from happening. Or help it happen again. The power of a united players association will also keep organizers from trying to have too much control on the players.

The AGP will also help get players the sponsoring they need if they do not have it. Details on this will be released soon as the limited nature of tourneys is the problem currently and points directly at what kind of sponsorship $ a player can get. The AGP will also promote ALL players to the masses. This has sorely lacked up until now, limited to winners and individual team promotions. This will transcend directly to sponsoring and growth.

Being AGP Sanctioned means a competition is approved by the players and follows the rules and guidelines of being sanctioned and if they do not, will be enforced. It will protect the players as well from being treated unfairly or against contracts, like when Lost Cauze was left by his sponsor while playing at Rage in S. Africa. Things were bigger than, but this is an issue that has happened to many top players and can again sometime.

Being AGP Sanctioned also will get additional promotion as part of the unified Quake Live competitive scene, instead of a competitor to all that are trying to help the game. We cannot afford this organizer competition as FPS is almost dead. Unity can only help it all. For example, there are different club owners in soccer and different leagues, but all go by the players association guidelines as part of FIFA. Same thing.

I've told most of the top players all of this before and that is one reason why they see it's potential and are part of it. Now you get a big cliffnotes version because you asked. My apparent mistake with this community and announcements was that alot of you really have no previous idea of what a players association is.

Though from what I reckon Dreamhack has never had any problems with paying or any other important thing, so it is doubtful you'd ever have to enforce anything in regards to them.

The worth to a bigger tourney like Dreamhack isn't huge unless they promote unity and progression of Quake as a sport. But it does say that the players approve of it and that it follows the rules, etc. As small as that is, nothing really says that right now for tournaments. And if anything happens that is sketchy (hey even CPL wasn't always sketchy) at some point, well than it is a problem and at that time, the AGP will deal with it. Smaller tournaments will benefit sooner by being sanctioned though, especially for lower skill tournaments.

These are future issues more than present. The AGP is to unite, not deter. To grow the sport, not interrupt.

All i have seen so far is you fail to run the 30 tournaments or whatever that you promised before christmas, you have had 2 years and you have a website that looks god damn awful with some random numbers you've decided on in a microsoft word document which, had you paid a proper designer and someone with taste, could have been dressed up to look prettier than it has actually turned out.

Sorry to sound like a dick but you need to seriously go back a few steps before you start making these announcements that are directed to that ugly website.

Oh and, the idea isn't actually that bad, BUT PAY A DESIGNER SO THE AGP ACTUALLY LOOKS PRESENTABLE... no amount of additional images will make that website look good, you need a new one.

The wording of these posts seems to be somewhat misleading. There is no notice that your site in no way represents Dreamhack, or it's sponsors. You can make a random point system to keep track of anything you want, but unless the actual event recognizes what you are doing, it doesn't mean shit.

The AGP does not represent Dreamhack the event or it's sponsors. The Quake Live tournament there was voted to be AGP Sanctioned. Those running the QL tournament were consented and agreed. So, thanks. The players know this, or rather, members do.

I might have done some mistakes here and there but it should be pretty accurate nonetheless. I believe an elo ranking could work pretty well for lan events. It should be obvious that it wouldn't provide rankings worth anything with only 1-2 events per year as player skill can change dramatically between events. Also there should be a threshold for which player gets in the rankings by the number of games played so recreational gamer with only a small amount of lan games don't fuck up the system
