you would throw a fit during startup. It's bad enough with an old PIII 500mhz laptop I have, only use it cause it has the best sound I have ever heard on a laptop.
But damn it's slooooow.

no way, your system is still superb,
get yourself some debian linux installation or open bsd,
your system perfectly runs in a commandline interface,
there you can start up the elite and superb lynx textbrowser.
And if there is a driver missing, you can still program it yourself!
Well there are no good graphic applications out there for linux,
but there are some graph programs where you can just type in the x and y inputs and some mathematical formula! For everything in windows there are so many alternatives linux, and if you like the programs you can contribute to by adding some code!
Linux doesn't have a lot of market share, but this is unjustified I can tell you, you just to know your stuff right and linux is easy to handle,
if you have the grip to it, you'll be a faster and better than any user on a windows system!
Linux machines are the fastest machines on earth!

Hey my computer had a turbo button. It was awesome.

I had one 6 -> 32 mhz on my 386.

and 16 -> 90 mhz on my pentium.

I always wondered what this thing was really good for,
I mean why should you ever disable the turbo?
I could only think of some bad programs that would run "too fast",
or let's say display the output "too fast".

Only difference really was that I had to recalibrate my joystick.

i had it too, but didn't really know what it does. that is, i didn't see any difference.

anyway i always switched on the turbo button when starting doom and doom2 xD

My computer didn't have a soundcard and doom1/2 were a slideshow. Did play awesome on a friend's 486 :o

my 386 was buffed to 6mb ram as far as i remember, and had that damn turbo switch, not even a button, a red SWITCH from 0 to 1, worked great.

if you couldn't play doom, you must have had a more epic pc...

if this was ~1993 that pc would cost much more than alienware wankery does today.
