Twitter may come in useful, especially during tournaments. It would be nice to know wtf is going on at events like Quakecon from someone who is actually there. Plus it's really easy to send updates from your phone. Plus people following don't need to be registered.
I can definitely see some uses for it.

me thinks twitter was in before facebook status thingie, besides twitter allows you to share stuff with people who are not your friends, or people you don't want to share personal stuff which are found on your fb profile. Which in some cases can be useful.

Facebook's no longer the in thing so the e-hip crowd are moving on to Twitter, seemingly for that reason alone. It's always seemed pointless to me, mainly a way of keeping in touch with people you don't give a shit about as you'll phone or email those you do. Unlike Colbert I've not Twatted.
