Originally, most singles referred to February 14 as Single's Awareness Day (acronym: SAD) until it just became too depressing! Choosing the next day allowed single people a chance to turn this into a celebration rather than a festival of self-pity or whatever they were doing before. It seems like a refreshing change of pace to know that you can survive Valentine's Day and move on to YOUR day, doesn't it?

valentines day is a very old holiday,with its roots going back many many many centuries, as far back as the late Roman empire. The modern association of love and valentines day is attributable to a good ol brit, Chaucer.

its roots are pehaps pure and genuine, but those roots have been truly distorted, ask anyone where they think valentines has come from. I bet you they can't answer!

i am i would say fairly anti-commercial but this doesn't have much to do with that self-alignment, it's just how it is in contemporary times. especially how all the merchandise people are subjugated to creates this false-need to buy some valentine related gift or a gift in general to express their feelings. if they don't then they are then perhaps stigmatised by their partner. it doesn't feel right to me anyway. i'm open to other perspectives on the matter ofcourse though :-D.
