CTF in pubs is automatically fail, with strong snipers nobody does anything else but snipes. Atleast in TF2 maps like goldrush when they're not ruined with instarespawn or similar stupidity create some teamplay now and then.

TF2 is exactly what's wrong with FPS games.

First off, 90% of the weapons require little to no skill in terms of aiming, accuracy, and reflexes.

TF2 is one of the slowest games I've ever played. It's very casual, and for some reason "MELEE ONLY DOUBLE GRAVITY" servers are packed.

Secondly, the achievements ruined the game. When new ones are released, good luck trying to join a server and NOT see 5 medics whoring another player just to receive achievements.

It's just an FPS version of WoW. An easy, bright happy looking, slow, un-skillful slow, boring, slow game.

You forgot crits. Crits ruin almost any skill that could be involved.

critical hits in a fps? that's stupid. never played tf2, so didn't know. i can understand having crits in diablo 2 where everything else is random, but not in a fps.

Yup, I even scrimmed a few times when the US wanted crits in competitive play. I played as scout, and sometimes I'd go to someone playing a heavy, and I'd get a crit on the first two shots, killing him (usually takes 3-5 without).

So, I'm sure that player felt fantastic.

Shit like that might be 'fun', but it sure as hell isn't fair.

It's so fun to juke and bat a heavy to death.

dunno when you played it but crits are not used in anything but public, and even in public it is removed from alot of servers

there's no friendly fire in the game so it's just a bunch of spam

tf2 is a good game, but the problem is:

- scout is pretty much the only class with gameplay remotely like cpm, it pretty much is - think of scout in NTF minus the grenade launcher - EXCEPT that the scattergun [shotgun for those that are less informed] has random spread, and pistol has ranged damage, and spread - ie. ITS FUCKING STUPID.

- soldier is good, its like playing a mod of quake with rocket launcher. BUT airshots are easy, its so slow i could fall asleeep, if you thought vq3 is bad - tf2 soldier is another level! The game has air control being the source engine - except people move so slow its useless, you could airshot all day at 50ups rocket vs 51ups moving enemy. it also has ranged damage - wtf?! then when you run out of ammo or clip you swap to shotgun and that has random spread - beleive me, my mouse has almost hit the wall many times.

most other guns have ranged damage too - well actuallu to be honest, i could live with ranged damage but whats with all the hitscan guns having random spread, it's stupid.

The problem is you're all taking it seriously. It's not a 'good' game, but that doesn't mean it isn't a fun game. I like it because it's somewhat mindless (although spy, my favourite class, takes a lot of effort and is so much fucking fun it's ridiculous) and it's a change. Stuff like crits are really stupid but who cares, just respawn and try again.

The classes I'd say are the most boring to play are Scout, Soldier and Sniper, just completely unvaried, but sometimes the mood strikes me.

It's amateurish gameplay with excellent content (the characters are all well drawn, immediately recognisable and all likable in their own way, watch the meet the... videos) and the fact that it's still being updated with new content, even if it isn't major, is a really nice bonus.

Also I forgot to mention: don't play CTF, of course it's going to be shit in CTF, CTF is just inherently shit, it's a phenomenon really because CTF should be good in any game but it always attracts the very basic of morons (see: stunt.us) which ruins the whole thing.

I loved TF2, but unlockables ruined it for me.

Even though it's slow and not meant for serious play at all, it's a fun game with nice balance, varied classes, some good maps and a gameplay that encourages teamplay on public servers.

tf2's biggest problem is it's overall lack of balance resulting in every team playing the same lineup in 6v6 play, 2 soldiers, 2 scouts, medic, demo with the occasional sniper and engineer thrown in.

it's still a good game though. also, just because you can't move extremely fast doesn't make it bad.

i dont judge a game by the speed of weapons or players so that was never my opinion - it was how it was said

ive watched my bro play tf2 it doesnt seem bad on a whole but i would never compare it to quake(s) or most other 1st person shooter games out there
