Next Wolfenstein Information revealed (71 comments)

The upcoming Wolfenstein title has been reviewed by August's edition of Game Informer and subsequently leaked by the kind people at the yoyogames forum. The upcoming title so far hinted at being called 'Secret War' has been previewed mainly from its Single Player narrative, though there are extensive in game screenshots that certainly wet the appetite of fans of the story. In addition to that there is one line regarding the multiplayer, stating it will follow in the footsteps of Wolfenstein: Enemy Teritory.

The title is being developed on the ID Tech 4 engine by Raven, though multiplayer is being handled by Threewave (though their was no mention of them in the article). The game is set for simultaneous release on XBOX, PC & PS3 next year.

i wasn't refering to the screenshots, but the direction this game seems to be taking

it wont be anything like rtcw, competitive scene will last maybe a month like ET:QW

as much as I want to be wrong, I doubt it will be good

mp and sp will both run on the same engine... maybe they will suprise me but so far it looks like it will be awful to play

the competitive fps gaming is in dire need of something, but nothing is coming, everything that attempts it flops horribly, because they just dont know how to do it

i hope mp is more close quarters battle friendly like rtcw is and et isn't, and that the gameplay is closer to rambo than enemy at the gates. but mostly i sincerely hope all platforms being "functionally identical" doesn't refer to mp gameplay.

Yup, WW2 with some sci-fi just like the original wolfenstein game which pretty much gave birth the FPS genre. Here's a hint, true sequels usually deal with similar settings.

Seriously you can not fuck with RTCW MP as a team based game at all. Its just so deep and tactical with so much scope for expansion and personal style.

Playing competative RTCW was just so much fun, such a challange and always evolving, thats what makes it a classic MP game. I cant belive that companies like ID can not see that and continue to make the game like ET... man why...

Agree, RTWC was the perfect blend of KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) and gameplay depth. The gameplay itself is very simple with only the minimum of classes for it's gameplay style and easy to understand objectives. Unlike newer games (which throw everything at you including the kitchen sink), the depth comes from what the players do instead of trying to keep the gamers attention by having loads of stuff to explore.

Hope they keep it simple in the new wolf game as well. Never was a huge fan of W:ET, yeah it was free so you played it a bit but it never had the quality of RTCW. RTCW was simple and too the point, something almost all newer MP games don't care about.
