The movie is really good and shows esports in a very good form. Romero isn't what it is about, but he talks about the beginning of id. Rafik's story in it is freaking great and covers him more than just gaming not from last year, but from the year before.

You guys will like the movie. its very entertaining. It really shows esports from the struggle point of view from history of pro gaming to present with some side stories, even those that cover the Guitar hero phenomenom.

So hate like you always do, but I guarantee its good.

I won't judge the movie before I've seen it, but looking at the cast it seems like there's only a tiny aspect of professional gaming that is dealt with here. All I see is commentators, managers and writers, some CGS players, a lot of Quake players who are inactive - not a single CS 1.6, SC or WC3 player. Plus a summary that includes the horrifying line "Exploited, abused, and abandoned, most gamers fail to reach the top" does not leave me with high expectations.

Isn't that how it very often is? Some (dumb) people leave school and use all their savings to go to an event like CXG and get derailed out of life for a year.

Granted, those are usually stupid dreamers, but in gaming there is no system where people take care of young gamers so that they are not derailed for life once their beloved game is dropped by the CPLs of this world.

A better synopsis of the movie is it covers the beginning of pro video gaming from conception up until id Software takes over. You know, the history lesson, but its really funny.
CPL starts, talks about Angel's dynasty and fall (strangely the movie was done WAY before the recent CPL news but is very fitting).
Shows how Fatal1ty made it, covers how bootcamps became such a huge thing for gaming, and has a great and very interesting segment of how Rafik "Lost-Cauze" Bryant went through the very tough times from when he started getting better, and what he did to finally make it. As an apprentice to fatal1ty up until their inevadible showdown.
The movie covers how gamers get screwed by sponsors and supported, how hard it is to make it and actually survive, and how things have grown. It has a great segment on the Guitar Hero epidemic and Gene Simmons is so freaking funny, its worth the movie altogether. And the parties at the end of the events.

There is alot of depth to the movie. I know you ain't American, so it would be wise to not act it in forming opinions without actually witnessing something. You will like it. Everyone has liked it. At the premieres, both of them, people stood clapping following. So just be patient. The movie has alot more than the few things you are seeing in the trailer, in the description, and in your opinions. Everything in the trailer is shown that long in movie. The movie is an hour in a half. And I was approached all week in Dallas about the movie and told how interesting it was for those non gaming. Those in gaming that saw it, really REALLY liked it. Even the haters. ;)

This movie is going to be a cult classic, just like how the movie Hackers was. It was a decent movie at best, a lot think it was trash, but we all like to watch it every now and then.

No need to play video game to meet : "corruption, money, partying, drugs, and even death."

Money, party, dealers, drugs & junky, and even the death (rofl) haven't waited video game to already exist in the past.

If you want to make a complete study of problems listed above, you must take in consideration that children who fall into this trap (drugs, etc...), already have personal problems in their life (family problem, bad feeling of themselves and so on). It's not a video games problem/fault if they are like that... Even if of course, video game can't help them to feel better.

If you are strong @health and mind, are good @ school, have support of your family and a good way of life, I'm sure that, even if the video game environment may have some bad aspects (of course, I expect that it's less dark than the synopsis of the documentary may let us understand), you can manage to pass through this bad things.

the movie really isnt about that. It has like 3 minutes of it. It glorifies pro gaming and the lifestyle and funness of it all. It does talk about some parties at the end of events though... but its in good fun and a DUH for anyone in any type of event. There will always be parties and the support of them lol, including illegal substances. But its not about that. i dont really know why they put that like that but thats marketing. maybe non gamers will wanna see it more by it being marketed that way? Who knows...There is plenty of drama in it though.

As you said, they did a synopsis like that only for the marketing aspect, and as you know, sex drugs and decline of people, always attract a lot of people :o)

The story arcs in the movie are what make it so good. While it does show the brief history all the way back to Billy Mitchel's Pacman and Donkey Kong time, it runs up fast to Thresh and id Software and then branches from there. fatal1ty's story is what you know but there is some good insight, and LC's story is a focus on the struggles of gaming up to when he faced his idol Fatal1ty and won in Africa. But there is alot on the sides. It isn't JUSt that. It has a freaking awesome guitar hero segment focusing on Sephi, as he was attempting to become a pro gamer, and has alot of talk from gaming organization heads like Sam of Fnatic, Team 3d talks, struggles of family and gaming with tons of pros, etc etc etc. I don't say things I feel as not truth, but most people will like this movie, gaming or not. I am very impressed.

After the trials and tribulations of Rafik on MTV, we now have the whines and dines of all those who bought a ticket for the failboat.

Also, juding by the cast, there is a significant portion of the organized gaming world missing. One can only conclude that the views expressed in the movie are purely personal.

I mean take a look at Slasher and tell me you are surprised there are drugs and corruption in gaming.....
