as the name suggests it's basically the successor to the system shock series. anyone who played those can probably relate to the hype : )

Nope, it doesn't have strong rpg elements. But it has a nice feel to it still. I like the invironments and all the ambient stuff. One should atleast try it out.

Plus, if you've watched any of the promo videos, it looks amazing. It's not the type of game you power-game through. If you're not interested in exploring and discovering things about the place, the history, then don't bother.

Plus, combat's supposed to be not too shabby either, which is a big improvement from SS2.

SS2 was very very exciting first 3 levels :)
Then the stupid ending, I played on high difficulty and did not keep as many monkey-cronky decoding stuff as needed, where should I know I will need at least X number of them ?
So I played SS2 till the point I had to make Shodan happy, only, but I can presume there was the end of the game.

Yeah, it's tough if you don't keep the ICE picks. Plus, I'm not sure how anyone beat the game without hacking. =P

8hrs? I've read that it's about 20hrs and it offers very good replay value.

Yeah like farcry had junk for multiplayer and the single player was 12-16 hours, but I still got my value out of it since it was high in replay value.

I could maybe understand for a game like Chronicals of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay it was about 7 hours but it was action packed from the beginning to the end got mostly 9/10 ratings dispite no MP. BUT even that game they slashed the price and you could buy it for around $30 in the States, so even it was worth my money considering the short burst of fun and nice graphics.

imagine what would have been if that game would have been strong on the shooting part as well! :o

SS and SS2 were awesome games, Biosock will be too.

in 5min (3min adjusting settings, 2 min of gameplay) I can tell this was coded for console architecture, not pc (it runs like shit), and setting menus have been add like piss on a street wall on a drunk night

edit : played a bit more, framerate is actually ok

It runs fine on my computer in 1024x768, but menus and mouse input is fubar. Feels like it has built in acceleration, cursor seems to "snap" to menu buttons and if you play with low sens ingame you will have to move the mouse 2 meters just to cross the screen in menu mode.

Some games are just like that. Incredibly annoying since I don't use high sense.

unreal 3 engine runs pretty decently on my amd 64 3700+, 7800gt, 2gb of ram. however, decent means 30fps on high quality. such a low framerate would suck for multiplayer, but for single player i can deal with it. does anyone know what the framerate of this game is on 360? i think it's also 30fps since the game seemed equally smooth on 360/pc.

now if only they de-newbed the menus and allowed users to config mouse accel. of course, i'll never play this game online, just single player, so i can let a few things slide.

yes, I gotta admit that's one of the few thing I like about the ID engines, that they're opengl..

sadly it looks like UT3 will be DX9/DX10 only - unlike the prevous ut's which actually had both dx, opengl and software render.

it pains me that I might have to get vista, even crossed my mind to buy it... gotta check if it's legal to buy one license and use it for all the computers inside this house, if that's legal I might consider getting it, if not I doubt I'll get it.

and speaking about comparing the directx 10 and opengl 2.1 images I think the images were using crysis because it is considered to be the best directx 10 looking game (well not released yet but you got the idea)

Well the line I've heard from people representing microsoft is "DirectX 10 is miles ahead of OpenGL". From what I've seen of idtech5 (hd trailers), only crysis is more impressive.

it looked kinda crap to me, but hope i'm wrong. there was so much about using those drug things. imo turning one enemy onto another wasn't really that interesting.

however, since it's getting great reviews everywhere maybe it's better than the videos look. i just hope for good gameplay!

well i thought the demo was pretty immense, playing through it, it ended kind of suddenly but the graphics are superb even on my dated agp system, the water effects are amazing, after the beggining POV cut scene i was floating in the water waiting for somthing to happen.. then moved the mouse and realised -cut scene over, it really does look that good. and plays just as well.

I've seen the entire demo to a friend yesterday
the graphics are good (which I knew already)
the fire/electricity stuff and the other combinations (plasmids) you can fight your enemies is a little bit childish
the helping guy icon is desklets/screenlets style (I don't mind that effect but it is really that hard to invent something new?)
so you have a story (dunno if a nice story as I did not play the game) with linear action and a lot of scripts with a pretty big (and useless) variety how you can finish your enemies, medium/weak quests and great graphics
I think System Shock 2 is miles away
