just rent a car and buy on of them city guides instead of taking tours, only exception would be if its hot and the traffic is heavy. In barcelona dont go up the mountain, the view is horrible but the football stadium was quite nice, id look into getting tickets to a game if id go there again

I disagree. At least, renting a car in Berlin is stupid you get everwhere faster and cheaper with public transports.

I stayed at the Odyssee hostel, it was pretty reasonably priced and the rooms had awesome decoration. Breakfast was included too or something like 2€ which was nice.

There is none!!

Well... basically the beer you can only drink outside the first pub (you can stay out and drink it until the keg is finished if you want) and the free shots are only given in-between pubs. Then when you go inside the pub or club theres a special deal that when you order a drink you get a shot for free.

a pity the loveparade isnt held in berlin anymore. thats always fun!

about the nice places to go: - Montmartre is a nice part of paris, very animated lot of ppl etc...
- St michel is for me the best part of paris, la cathédrale saint michelle, les quais etc...

- Champs elysées are great but 2much ppl and nothing to visite

- Bastille is the best part for night trip, lot of pubs (ex: irish pub for foreign ppl), le wax etc...

well if u wanna stay for the cheapest prices, u have to go in the suburb, im living atm in the south of paris in "le val de marne" dep:94 try to find something there, like a flat for a few days.
U can also try to find something in paris like student rooms for not that expensive but the pb is u have to reserve quickly.
Moreover, u'd better have a good credit card for eating in paris, unless u wanna eat junk food everydays.
The life is rly expensive over here but u won't be disapointed, trust me :d

If someone would like to play lan tournament in ut, he cant go anywhere else neither (of course there should be some prize money, title sponsor is AMD).

August is not the best time to visit Barcelona, its fkn hot and the only persons that are there are tourists, the spaniards are all at the sea or somewhere else. Barca is also a big university city, so its even emptier than a normal spanish city. July/August seems to be some kind of big siesta over there. Many bars etc. are closed during this period. Besides, FC Barca doesnt play then.
You have to see the sagrada. Its a vast cathedral construction site, id imagine the only one of its kind in the world. Its better to be there in the morning, because you will have to stand in line very long during the day. There are also alot of other architecture-related things to see if you are interested in that (Mies-Pavillion, Gaudi).

if you're into art you can visit the salvador dali museum. its close to barcelona.

i dunno, i like to go out drinking mostly. i enjoy socialising and just messing around, but when i travel i love to do the tourist stuff. i really enjoy going out to eat, try to do it as much as possible and i like to eat in nice restaurants with my girl... we goto the cinema pretty much every week... we're both really into music, various kinds... both physically fit, so quite up for travelling around on foot etc..

berlin is probably one of the best locations in germany to go out and party/drink ... depending on your favourite style of music you can literally party all day long (there are some clubs who open at 6.a.m sunday and stay open till about 6.p.m sunday)

If you think you'll abe to understand it you might want to see a comedy/cabaret/open mic show as those are quite typical for Berlin and there are loads of bars etc that have those, some of them really good if you're into that kind of stuff. Some local flavour ;-)

i think that the nearest one is Sachsenhausen, 30-40 kilometers isn't that much, is it?:P at least it has got pretty interesting history (camp for germans from political opposition, then prisoners of war and finally soviet camp for germans and some "unobedient" Red Army soldiers)

What I always do with people who have never been to Berlin is wak from the Alexanderplatz in the East westwards to the Reichstag or even further to the Schloss Bellevue. There are lot's of sights on the way.
If you are into museums of any kind or art there are lots of opportunities, too.
If you want to see landscape and palaces you can go in the direction of Potsdam. Sansoucci for example or the Babelsberger Schloss and others lying round the Wannsee.

You can also do guided boat tours as well as rent any types of boats if you have the licenses. I recommend that if it's hot :)

There are lots cinemas and theaters, some of them in English too.
If you can read German buy a "Tip" for that.

As for clubs and so on there are already some suggestions here, so I won't go into that again.

If you girlfriend needs to go shopping (i hear women consider that fun :P) you can go both to Mitte for more unique things, and the Kurfürstendamm area for everything else.


Personally, when I'm in Berlin I enjoy just walking through with a small group and look at people and get some good food. Cause you can eat really cheap and good there. For example indian all you can eat for lunch for 6€.

Also you have to get both Döner Kebab and one other time a Currywurst, if you never had them before!

we have some cool ideas for paris and barcelona, but i'm not sure what the best things are to check out in berlin.

i'd like some classic touristy stuff, but more lighthearted and fun! like maybe some a nice area for clubbing/drinking, some nice scenic areas... the 'concentration camps + berlin wall' plans just sound a little heavy for the beginning of a holliday. so i'd like some lighter suggestions to balance it out.

we're going to be tourists all the way in paris, visiting the tower and the louvre (and all the rest!). in barcelona we're gonna do the tourist stuff, but also we're gonna go to port aventura for a day or two and stuff like that.

for lighthearted you can try the "Schleusenkrug" Biergarten (very very German :P) or the "Cafe am neuen See" which are both in the Tiergarten which means it's both very central but also in the nature.

Speaking of Tiergarten, there is of course also the Zoo you could visit, although I hear it has become quite expensive.

I got back from a european trip of my own earlier this month, although I did more of eastern europe than France/Spain.

If you've not yet booked accomodation in Berlin I cant recommend St. Christophers Hostel enough - http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/...rlin-17515

The place is worth so much more than they charge its unbelievable, the whole bottom floor is a buzzing 24 bar serving cheap food and even cheaper drink. The rooms are modern, clean and the staff are fantastic. It was the best hostel I've ever stayed in by far, although admittedly the only in Germany.
We were only in Berlin for a couple of days so we decided to take New Berlin Tour. Again this is a fantastic way to see the city and I cant recommend it enough. It runs quite a while and you get to see all the main sights. The guides are great and are very imformative about the general history of everything. As it says on the website, its technically a free tour, although you are expected to tip the guides after the tour. You wont have any quarms about this though, I guarantee. BTW I wouldnt worry about the Berlin Wall being 'gloomy', theres not much left to be gloomy about, although the guides on the berlin tours have some terrific stories about it.

As for the nightlife I cant really give you any info, as typical brits we stayed in the hostel bar the 1st night and got so drunk we couldnt hack the pub crawl the next night, lol.
