also, I'm skeptical of the validity of your numbers. there are obviously lots of visitors from different places at times, but how many of them are active and non-anonymous? and what percent of those are british? this site is founded on a large british following. there are lots of scandinavians, germans, french, americans, too, but look how many british people have been here from the start.

I would call it a british website. it was created by british people. its first administrators were largely british, and so forth, and, right now, it's hosted in britain. its language is english.

The point which seems to escape you is that while the person that started this site is British, there are really not that many British people on this site. You can check the numbers yourself by clicking the online list and then there's another option for viewing online numbers by country. And secondly that while the original poster is clearly interested in politics and discussing it here, that does not necessarily mean that the other British people would want to join in. Therefore drawing some kind of conclusion by the fact that there wasn't a huge amount of interest in this thread, is not sensible.

that is true. and my point was exactly that: just because you aren't interested in politics or discussing them here, that does not necessarily mean that no one else is.

While I think this government is going thr wrong way with it, I think in this case Blair is actually talking about the civil liberties of foreign nationals that are under suspicion in this country rather than British people.

It's true though that people just don't care. They're more interested in the Big Brother television show, rather than questioning if their freedom is being lost. Brian Haw is my hero.

The measures they introduce tend to apply to everyone.
