I was looking at that laptop but I don't know Rock too well so I went for XPS instead. Rock get some nice reviews though. Are you happy with it?

a friend of mine just got the top of the range one similar to the one here and says its amazing, i was looking into laptops recently and it seems if you want the best quality its either alienware or rock... with rock being slightly cheaper it seems the best manfacturer of laptops atm.

I was choosing between XPS and Alienware. The problem with Alienware is that their only model that has the 1900x1200 screen only comes with SLI graphics, and a price of around £2,500. That's just a silly price imo. I got a similarly specced XPS with single gpu for £1,500. I also like the sound quality on XPS's I've seen, but I didn't have anything to compare it to for Alienware and Rock.

didn't dell buy out alienware when the XPS laptops started?

Dell bought Alienware last year, but XPS had been going for a good while before that. For the same price I think XPS laptops are way better.

The SLI behemoth that Rock and Alienware offer is just too big to be a laptop ;)

I'm extremely happy with the Rock machine. The service was excellent and the laptop arrived 3 days after I ordered it.

I went for the 1680 x 1050 display as the bigger one makes text too tiny on a 17 inch display imo.

I get around 9600 3dmark 05 stock which is pretty impressive. Needless to say framerates are good on all games I have played.

I have an older Alienware but decided to go Rock this time round because

- Rock offers the Cored 2 Duo. AW still have the single core AMD
- AW do not offer the Go 7950
- Rock was cheaper

The build quality is excellent and the Rock lappy is half the weight of my old AW one. The fans are very quiet too ...

I'd certainly recommend this machine to others ....
