Reservoir Dogs isn't that good imo. All the Tarantino movies have awsome dialogues and soundtrack, but only Kill Bill 1/2 and Pulp Fiction have something more.

NBK is really good, but Tarantino didn't direct it. I like Sin City, where Tarantino directed a few scenes, though.

Sure it is, for the most part the "editing" in Just Quake is terrible, and the music choice is quite poor really. The key to Just Quake is the frags and simplicity.

You could easily collect just a good a selection of frags and put some nice, simple high quality editing into it and you'd have a winner.

You have ESWC 2k4/5 Quakecon 2k4 QLAN2 cXg CPL winter 2k6 heck even ASUS tournaments from Russia and those are just the lan tournaments. You have EC's and what not too.

Then there are all the awesome frags from the tournaments from before/same time as Just Quake that were not used.

but apart from that, yea, there should be enough to chose from.

There is no rule about re-using great frags :D, as long as you don't use basically the exact same set of frags it's fine imo.

well not really.. there's something about that movie which is just special. i'm saying this because i tried... with pretty much the same content. there was a movie making contest from style-productions in which the rules were to use only the demos they gave you. most of those demos were already used in Just Quake. i gave it a shot but after watching Just Quake, i wasnt really happy with what i put out so i scrapped it.

I dunno I think if we take a look at what really makes Just Quake so special I think somebody could use the model to improve upon it.

For a start:

- Frags: They are given a second or two to "intro" then the frag happens then they are given another second or two. (This one probably sounds like crap but it's the feeling I get *shrugs*)

This solves the problem I have with most "modern" frag movies where they seem to cut/cut/cut/cut etc. it also gives you a much greater "feel" for the frags.

- Next to no use of Slow-Mo to synch up the frags, now slow-mo to synch frags to music is the worst thing you can do in a movie except for maybe one/two times (In fact cky does this with the uNkind tele-rail where it comes at a slow part of the track)

This leaves the movie feeling pacey throughout and not "stop/start"

- Medium fov, you don't feel "enclosed" but you get fish eye effect either

yea i know what you mean by the frags having a lead in and out. the trouble with many frag movies is... especially in the cases where the community submits demos... there's just so much to fit inside a limited time span.

Agree, I think the perfect movie would be the frags from JustQuake with nice high quality and a new soundtrack, with clean editing (basically just synching with the music)

first of all, probably the best video with so many effects and cams, many movies have it, but suck deeply because it's made very bad, but you really made every effect/overlay/cam very good... but, still was too much despite the quality of it :(

and the sound felt like it was a bit bad quality. image quality etc was awesome.

somehow I really loved it, but on the other hand I was getting annoyed at all the effects and cams.

as you said, it's refreshing, because it's rarely that the good editors try to throw this much into such a short video, well done =)

edit: it had too low fov, you should know that using widescreen demands higher fov!! ;)

this video makes me feel kinda claustrophobic, i dunno if it's the quick cuts, the low fov, the motion blur or the combination of all 3 but i find it difficult to follow.

the huge resolution doesn't seem to help the quality that much.

this sounds sorta negative so far but at least it was somewhat original and didn't include the 5 minute outro.

Lies, specially when talking about competitive gaming. I played CS back in the day and I remember attending LANs and watching quakers playing on big screens with huge following and people cheering while we begged for a small tournament and nobody outside the players gave a shit about it. I remember thinking hey, maybe one day CS will be as big as Q3. It didn't take so long, by 2002 CS had hugely surpassed Q3 in both pub and competitive gaming.

I had pretty high expectations of this, and imo it was very difficult to follow, it just seemed like there were random shots of a death and it was very hard to determine where the frag came from. I do though like the fact that you made a movie for your own pleasure. Image/sound quality was nice (when the vid was in color). Camming get's a little excessive in a few parts (taking away from the skill of the frag). Just my opinion...

i see a lot of people miss the 'frag' aspect of the vid. only thing is, i kinda know what was in cristal's mind when he was making this video and it's not really about the frags at all. he was willing to work with just about anything, even if the frags were 'bad'. i'm not trying to defend him or anything, just that the focus of this video wasn't the frags. maybe that should have been added in the description. i was quite surprised in fact. never thought a song like this would work in a q3 vid.

For a start if you want to make a vid for yourself and not for others, don't release it publically, even less under the Shaolin brand.
The quality is good, but the editing is crap. I mean there's waaay too much of it, I'm pretty sure those who aren't Q3ers and don't know most of the maps very well are totally unable to understand what's going on. That and the fact recams are way inferior to pov when judging a frag's quality.
And then there's the frag's quality. I mean, how can you, in 2007, put an air rail in a video ? For fuck's sake, that must be the easiest thing to do next to beating Dird on ztn.
I'm happy for you if you did it for your own pleasure and you indeed enjoyed it this way, but it sure is a poor vid to release under the Shaolin Prod brand.

Some good stuff, I liked how clear the player turning was and giving the time for some of the frags. Wouldn't it be better to just grab the audience rather than have the intro with the pretentious 'I made this for myself'? Frag movies aren't really about suspense or character development.

I think you can make a movie for the pleasure of the audience, while not beeing "pop", putting shitty pop music and so. I mean, you can make a movie for the audience and BE YOURSELF.
This was not a good fragmovie at all, and not a good art movie at all. I have to categorize ? Yes I do, everyone does. I also like what makes me feel something special.
Grab good frags, find your own style in the editing, and you'll make good movies.

well, I've always felt that movies were always majored... looking back the last 8 out of 15 have been

lof's 2nd ra3 movie which has a content about a hundred times better than this one (although it has intended lack of editing) was unmajored by TosspoT about one hour after Sujoy majored it.
So no, not all movies make it to front page, not even all good ones.

And this piece of crap with poor editing and content (overuse of recams, decent frags ruined, poor frags and actions, poor creativity, and so on) earns "major" just because it has the Shaolin Prod sticker and the maker is known amongst the ut2kx community. Says it all really.

we have seen enough fast brutal frag movies, and most probably the peak here has already been reached
this movie on the other hand focuses more on style and atmosphere. i do not say its perfect (i found 2, 3 scenes/frags that did not fit perfectly), but on the whole it is very refreshing too watch, very enjoyable. super mood it creates =) cristal, thanks for making it
