All demo comments should be hidden until you click an unhide tag.
Nothing worse than having the score spolied.
it's also goes without saying whoever posts it should use hide tags.

its quite easy to NOT read the comments.

Nevertheless -- a good eval. of it ratingwise is handy; and to me it mostly seems like noone bothers to vote because there are so few votes anyways, but a little collaboration on this goes a long way i think. ;)

That's flawed logic by your own admission because if you read the commets to determie if the demo is worth watching then you risk seeing the scores.

Also Clains idea is flawed because not everyone can be trusted to rate them properly and you don't know if the person reviewing the demos is qualified to do so.
After all the whole Idea of a review is to get an informed opinion.

The best way to do it is to entrust a few peeps to REVIEW the demo and put a mark out of 1-10 in the intro, so if someone I trust says it's a 9/10 I'm going to dl it and not have someone spoil it by showing the scores.

You're saying that VOTING is flawed? The more input from more people, the better avg you have of just the same avg people that are going to watch the demo next. If you had a team suited to YOUR liking it would prevent the general opinion to shine, and the general opinion is the avg opinion of just most of the people who need an opinion to see if it's worth watching or not. Besides ESR has a feature that allows you to see who voted what, so if people you "respect" have voted already you can check it out. But ofcourse if you mean flawed in the sense deprived of perfection, you're right, it's not perfect. However, i still view it as the most practical solution.

No, I just happen to think that if you're looking for a REVIEW SCORE to give you an indication if something is worth buying or in this case watching then it's better for it to be done by a few trusted people who know what they're talking about are likely to give an accurate reflection on the quality of a demo.

How well do you think you would be able to review a game of CS compared to someone like Potty who understands the finer points?

It's the same here. I come to ESR cuz it's got some people who know they're stuff on it, why not take advantage of that.

Conecerning entertainment, most people are interested in the opinion of those who are like themselfs.. Don't you think a system such as imdb is a good system? I've watched more films than most people i know, yet i still find this the best place to go for hunting movies.

It's different with films, I'm not an expert and for me at least they are more of a personal experience. I.E. you can like a film if you can identify with the issues and main characters, even if the film is shite and see it in a better light than those who don't identify with it and think of it as average.
As a result film reviews are arbitrary, unless it's widely acclaimed,slated or takes place in a setting that does not interest you.

Typical blow out ESR answer. Claim someone is missing something then instead of explaining something, you escape it by implying that it's my fault.

If i'm missing something then I'll get it assuming it's accurate.
I suspect your answer is preference related and you know it's not going to cut it against your original claim "that I don't get it". Nice try :)

id prefer to read the comments to see if a demo is good, so im bound to see the score if the people write it. knowing the score before seeing a demo doesnt take anything away from it for me. half the time i will have seen the results prior to watching any demo anyway.
