Of course it will. Having played Fat, Ketnar, and a few others who were streaming with good hardware and bandwidth they had a noticeable increase in warp and jitter. And that's with (what I assume were) perfect settings. I know Fat tried changing things up many times to decrease this. Pretty sure he gave up entirely, and he had a ping of 12 with no packetloss to start with.

Steam alone increases it.

Unless you have left 'allow background downloading' on, or have horrifically bad ram problems, or leave overlays on and have terrible cpu problems, steam doesn't introduce any interference to the game.

i've had framerate problems due to steam in css indeed but that was about 5 years ago. nowadays the client with all its running services uses about 150mb ram and miniscule cpu time.

The potential for this is pretty amazing. If you want to show a friend something you can just have him spectate you for a bit. Twitch streaming can be a lot of effort, this is super simple. You don't even have to start streaming until one of your friends want to watch, eliminating some of the awkwardness of streaming with low viewers (is someone watching? should I be talking?)

Sounds good, provided you have enough bandwith/cpu resources to not interfere with the game.

NVenc (hardware compression) for newer Nvidia (GT 660+) graphics cards has ~0% impact on performance
dunno if Steam Broadcaster supports it, but it works in OBS/Shadowplay/XSplit

Good info, thanks. Gonna be upgrading soon my ati 5750 cause opengl qw performance is much better with nvidia, and this reinforces said change.

i don't know how this works, but its much better than both obs and xsplit, at least on my system. (i5, 8gb ddr3, hd7870) xsplit causes stutters, obs wrecks my framerate. this is nearly perfect, still missing Kappa.

Any idea on the technical details? Is it streaming at whatever resolution you're using or down-scaling to something in particular? Is it streaming at 30 fps? Do broadcasters have any control over that?

It's currently 30 FPS max.

Right now it's not using gpu encoding. It only uses the cpu and your FPS drops to 30 fps while streaming. As soon as someone starts watching and you go live, the performance drop is very obvious.

why do i not experience this? streamed some reflex ql and cod:aw for a friend and nothing unusual happened.
