The Team Liquid Starcraft baking contest has just come to a close. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place each receive 2 SC2 beta keys, with more than 60 entries out to get them. Prizes were updated at the last minute, and 4th through 10th will each receive 1 beta key during the second wave of beta invites, coming out later.

Final standing:
1st - Vincze01 (hatchery cake)
2nd - Vedic & Wife (marine cake)
3rd - DoomFish & Girlfriend (kerrigan cake)
4th - Pape (baneling cake)
5th - Wadis (reaver cake)
6th - Kalectotite (HQ cakes)
7th - piesamazing (zealot cake)
8th - Airen & Tox (drone cake)
9th - Musashi (ultralisk & marine cake)
10th - Coltrane & friends (zerg base cake)

I'm somewhat disappointed that we didn't take first, but Vincze's cake got hyped a ton on digg/reddit/etc. We'll be prepared if another contest like this ever pops up. Even still, I scored 2 beta keys! My second beta key is going to KeKs for all the great coverage/bets he has been posting every week. Keep up the great work. <3

edit: the pic showing the materials we had ended up being far less than we needed. Ended up with 16 boxes of cake, about 5lbs of powdered sugar, 3 bags of marshmallows, 50 eggs, a pound of marzipan, 12 tubs of icing, etc...

My wife did most of the work, and she spent probably 35+ hours over 3 days on the majority of it. I iced around the base, painted in three spots on the back, stole some frosting, and had to eat a lot of things in the freezer so we could make room for the giant cakes.

To be honest, we were less than pleased with how the center part of the armor turned out. We were hoping to have it as nice as the shoulders turned out, but once you make fondant, you can't refrigerate it. We had some issues when we first applied the fondant, but we didn't have time to start over with a fresh layer, so we did what we could. If we weren't restrained by that, we could have put another 10 hours into it.

Yeah. We had to rush our work once the fondant was on, and leave the air conditioning on really high over night. If we were to refrigerate it completely, apparently the fondant would "sweat." This is the first time my wife has even tried something like this, so we weren't really prepared. =P

We had a cake party right after I took the final pictures since there was no way that the two of us could finish it.
