edit: after playing with it for a bit, I like the new GL sound, the new railgun sound is *perfect*, but the rest aren't so great. The new hyperblaster sounds better but lacks beefyness. I prefer the default LG, RL, SG and jump pad sounds.

simple items is really buggy for me, they show up as missing textures (black box, white outline) and on maps like galang by the rail jpad it doesnt display any light.

Yep, simple items is bugged, on some maps it doesnt work well.

And what about the hud ? Isnt it much clearer than xbm's one ?

since doom1 i fall in love with id software fast arcade styled fps and then only played doom2/quake1/2/3/4 so youre really wrong. Its just an opinion, i think its the right time for rockets trails and explosions. They look nice and different to Q3 and block vision of both players.

u never played a fast fps game be4... i can tell.
only newcomers plays fast fps in high detail, all effects ON and in 1600*1200.

heh, i play Warsow in full detail but that's quake 4 you know. Try Q3 with picmip 0, full lifhts, rocket trails, new plazma trails, plus all glowng stuff around etc.

I play in 800x600, i never play with all the eye candy, i'm the last q3 osp 1v1 champion at the local (200+ machines, 20+ q3 players) lanparty, i'm not a noob, judging me as a noob only because i enjoy rocket trails and nice explosions is the real noob actitude. it's just a opinion, picmip is over, crouchsliding is here, why not decent rockets? any eyecandy that destract my aim should not be there,it is not about who's the champion at discover the enemy through gibs , blod, lightstrikes, smoke, volcanic eruption or what ever eyecandy the game deveoper can come up whit.
its about aim, brain and movment.
this isn't CS (wich u are probably very familiar whit) where u are suppose to hide in all kind of shit just to take the enemy by suprise.
and more then that, the smoke probably take away fps wich is maybe even worse. thats imho.

it's quake. look at qw, its visuals are customizable to a degree that is insane compared to newer games. why is that? because qw has so much depth to offer purely gameplay-wise that it just doesnt matter what the walls or the rockets look like. through the workings of the game there is no need for any type of visual enhancement that affects gameplay. that's the way it has always been with quake games and that's the way it should to stay.

OMFG, the only game i had installed the past 6 years was Q3. Thats you trying to traeaten me of camper, i hate campers, and guess what, blocking stuff like plasma, trails and explosions are *BAD* for campers!

About the fps problem, my third world "mr.championish'ish" low end 5700 non ultra based rig gives me 60fps all the time with vertexlight, so no need to whine here. Eitheir you like it or you hate it, but stay on topic please and leave the agression for your next match.

fact -> they do for both players
fact -> for six years we had played Q3 without smoke
fact -> if nosmoke is an option we will be forced to use it
fact -> with smoke they look much more like rockets and not like flying cans
fact -> nearly transparent alpha blended Q3'ish plasma/explosions and no smoke is good for (now so common in Q4) rail whores because it doesnt block their vision.

IMHO it's time for quake with smoke, that's all, have a nice day.

'Like real life' is the worst possible argument for or against something in a game like Quake4 - which is why all of the people who makes these mods are going to ignore you.

Mostly, but not 100% true, for example: movement in quake is much more interesting than moving in real life so, movement is better in quake than in real life and thats ok. rockets in quake seems to be doomed to be ugly flying cans, while in real life rockets are much more interesting with their trails and big explosions, so thats not ok.

I have no hud or crosshair with beta 2. Beta 1 worked fine! So for me this version sucks. :(
