"Abe's Oddysee" Free on steam today (2 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 22:31 CDT, 23 September 2015 - iMsg

First of all, play this in the background on loop

Great, now do yourself a favor and grab steam Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee® for free on Steam. It's a daily special and will be gone in 20 hours or so.

I'm not sure if the compatibility issues are fully addressed, last time I gave this a spin on win7 I ran into countless problems and cutscenes not working.

Mind you, you can get the second game for mere 70 cents bundled with the first title steam here

Last but not least, follow me. *farts*

edit:
Cut-scenes work on win10, no issues whatsoever.
Windowing in and out works properly without distorting colors.
Looks like this is the version to play.

Logitech G series: A story (35 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 14:32 CDT, 22 September 2015 - iMsg
.::THE STORY::.

So when did it all begin? Did I ever bothered asking myself this question? I can't say I did; for me it started back in 2004, give or take a year.

It was the year when Logitech, who will be the main focus of this reviews, started releasing their first gaming oriented input devices. Did you know that their first mouse, named P4 was made back in 1982, when a bunch of white coat developers from Lausanne, Switzerland put this... thing on display, not knowing how pointing devices will change the world later on?

*Logitech P4, the first pointing device created by Logitech

Of course you didn't you fatty. All you ever do is play those "video games" on your "personal computer".

Did they ever think people will start bickering about not only native DPI steps, but sensor positions, which mouse tracks best on which surface type, that some incredibly frustrated 20 year old will shout at a screen because his Razer mouse isn't changing LED colors while moving? Probably not, and maybe... just maybe that very thought might have prevented them from ever entering the business of input devices.

It was followed by the C7, the first retail mouse by Logitech.

*Pictured above is the Logitech C7

That's about the same time the NES was released, and graphics were still blocky without Markus Persson's intervention.

Sure the MX series was available back in 2002 and featured an optical sensor with 800dpi and I could go on about the history but I'll let some of you meerkats take your time and read this 25 year anniversary PDF that takes a more in-depth look at the company
Logitech History

*It's a god damn meerkat reading logitech history, what else?

Great, now back to me. How is this relevant you ask? Well Logitech forced me to reconsider what gaming is all about. The recent purchases crushed all that I knew about mouse pads and mice for the last decade or so.
With these new products, I had to start building from the ground up and as far as I can tell, this is the future. I feel like I moved from a P4 to a C7. I feel like I've been "playing wrong" my entire life. Or did I? Who knows. I don't. And neither do you, lardo.

So now we are traveling through space and it's 2015 or what? Something like that. Well rewind a bit.

It's 2009, I'm still wearing long black pants on a hot summer day because I feel it emphasizes my likeness for dark music.
Not the right time, rewind a bit more.
2006? Not quite there yet.
Finally, we're in 2004. Spice Girls is long gone and OutKast releases their hit single "Hey Ya!" . I don't even know what competitive gaming is, all I know is there's a local 64 people public server on cs 1.6 with the regular faces, raging 30 year old admins kicking 14 year olds who found out how to use the microphone. I am not at all concerned about my input devices and that "latency" thing beside my ghastly nickname? Oh that's how much sound you make when walking.

See, if you run around with the gun the latency goes up to 150. When you're crouching, it remains on 90. Yes, that's how clueless we were. Oh golly, look at the time, it's my birthday and my brother got me something. It's an all new oddly shaped motherfucker called the MX510 - and what an odd specimen it was. The shape was different and it was much sturdier than my ball mouse. It was at that point that my long journey with the logitech products started.
I got ahold of the logitech headphones, logitech speakers, even wanted a logi keyboard but fortunately I dodged that bullet. Selling rubber domes for the price of a mech, SHAME ON YOU!

To keep it short, the CS/CS:S community was known (at least in my area) for unimaginably low sensitivity. The top players were known as "living roomers" - it was an insider joke when someone claimed that the top players swipe their mouse across the living room to turn 180 degrees. When I attended my first LAN event and saw my idols in person, they left for a drink and kept the game open... our "clan" was so excited to touch their filthy gear and spray cum all over it. It was like touching Federer's tennis racquet, it was like driving Rossi's M1, but the sensitivity... dear lord, it was embarrassing. You could move the mouse around the pad and the cross-hair barely moved.

*that fat slob in the superimposed red circle just randomly floating on the image is supposed to be me. Green circle dude was cool, rather skilled but also somewhat of a jackass and a clan hopper. Do not trust this guy.

At that point we knew what to do. Go above and beyond. Drop our sensitivity start using decimals. Why stop at 1 when you can go as low as 0,1 for your sens? This is why we needed those huge ass mouse pads. Cloth pads, none of that glass bullshit, we needed traction, we needed the whole table covered in cloth. I've stuck with the MX gear because they simply didn't fuck up when I did those long ass swipes. The diamondback failed me and it ended up being thrown out of the god damn window, where it belongs. It's a god damn snake, why would you want a stupid snake in your room? Are you insane?

The MX518 was my next most used mouse and I really have no complaints even to this day. I still see chumps using it to this day. It's an amazing mouse that stands the test of time.

So here I am, explaining what gaming meant to me and using QcK+ and a wmo/mx518/g400 for the past few years with low sens and dragging my hand across the table like a maniac sorting bananas into boxes when I finally decide to end this madness.

I saw some bang for buck deal for the g100s, cost me about $14 on eBay from some Chinese dude who probably stole it or whatever. They eat dogs so they're evil, I don't care. Let's get serious now.

While I wait for my mouse to arrive, I figure that I could replace my mouse pad, it's all sticky and torn from years of heavy use and abuse.

It looks like a used prostitute's underpants.

*A rendition of a prostitute mouse pad. A sad fate that many of mouse pads have to face after years of abuse. Please, donate to Humble Indie bundle or something to save the gaming prostitutes. Or do whatever you want with your money, whatever.

I figured I should get something to give nice warm company and fuzzy feeling to my newly obtained g100s. I searched high and low for the perfect mouse pad for a whole minute or so. Figured I should go with the G440, because it has G in its name and we all know what Logitech meant when they started the G series right?

Correct, you guessed it, it stands for Gagarin, the first bloke blazing it in outer space, financed solely by Logitech (not Razer, they suck)

*Pictured above is a happy Gagarin. Sources say that the happiness was dishonest and merely fabricated to empower the legalization movement.

.::THE MOUSEPAD::.

You have to admit, it goes hand in hand with the Hypothermia release.

*Rakbladsvalsen, Hypotermia's top shelf suicidal black metal release

So this thing crossed my mind - how to describe a mouse pad? All I know is that Roccat Taito is perfect for sanding a bench or if you're into mouse pads that make your mouse feel so sluggish like you've just put that bastard into slime. But what about the good pads, what's so good about them? How do you compare them? It all boils down to 5 things:

- How decent do they track
- How durable are they
- How comfortable is it
- How pricy is it
- How did those guys build pyramids I don't fucking know

Well, from what I can tell, the G440 is tracking insanely well. Maybe too well! (I'll get to that shortly). Never in my life have I witness such accuracy, it's almost as if it's... too accurate? I'm using both the QcK and the G440 side by side and the G440 takes the cake as far as tracking goes. I haven't been running any programs to prove this scientifically so you'll just have to take my word for it. The QcK is worn out and old, which contributes a lot to the fact that I consider it "worse" in this scenario. So as far as tracking goes, I've tested the IE 3.0, the g400 and the g100s and they all perform flawlessly.

I cannot comment on the durability just yet, but from what I can tell right now, it seems like it will last longer than a cloth pad.

Comfortable is not what I'd call the G440. It's both rough and loud. People who don't use headphones beware, this mouse pad is actually noisy. The edges and surface are rough, I think I've said rough enough times already to get my a point across. It's something that you will get used to. Definitely not a deal breaker, but worth a mention.

Also, notice how the cardboard "box" has a piece of the pad for demonstration on the back? You can search trashcans for these cardboards and assemble a pad of your own... FOR FREE!
LIFE = HACKED #2015

Here's some size comparisons

*The G440 and QcK+ size with both g400 and g100s

*g400 + g100s, what a lovely couple

*one more

Velvet Cacoon's release in comparison to QcK+

So long live the mx518+qck combo, and let the new era begin... one where swiping your mouse across the pad just won't work. Simply because the pad is too small, too slippery, the control is not there.

Imagine playing Air Hockey with a mouse. This is how I feel right now. Shit is all over the place, my cursor keeps flying around.

*my face when I'm trying to rail someone

Growing up in the age and culture of low sens and switching to a small mouse pad with glidey effect was a huge move for me. I cannot for the life of mine stop swiping and inadvertently destroying the mouse feet, I can't seem to comprehend that I don't need that much force anymore. If you just look at this bastard it will move a bit. It's a huge change in terms of how you perceive movement/aiming in a 3D environment. I now have to break whatever is hardwired in my brain and get used to a completely different aiming and moving method, not using swipes but just gently pushing the mouse around. It's a new world for me, a nicer, less angry world filled with regrets and broken dreams.

I'm slowly getting used to the claw grip and ditching the old habits. All I can say is that I'm pleased with the purchase so far, but I haven't really talked about the star of all of this.

.::THE MOUSE::.

The g100s. I cannot recommend this enough. I'm nowhere near a high level in any game, I'm actually rubbish at quake and my aim is not something to write home about. That's fine, I can live with that, knowing that I'm not good at video games. I'll survive, no need for a pep talk. But even from my beginner perspective all I can say is that this mouse is fantastic. The shape is perfect, it's not slippery at all even without any rubber coating. The first thing I noticed is that it's very, very lightweight.

Mouse wheel is fine, not too stiff, not too embedded into the shell, scrolls flawlessly (I'm looking at you, WMO).

Out of the box the DPIs are whack, I suggest getting the official drivers and using custom DPI - some smartass will kindly prove me wrong with MS Paint spirals and jitter info, but I just prefer ye olden 400 DPI. This is also the main reason why you're going to need the drivers. Without them, you are stuck with 1000,1750, or 2500 DPI - none of which suit my taste. This is kind of a bummer because I have a phobia that drivers will eventually change my settings somehow. So far so good though.

I kinda miss the sidebuttons switching directly from g400, but honestly the g100s does what's it supposed to do and it does so pretty damn well.

My gaming habits must change a lot, I'm now confined to a much smaller surface area and the mouse is literally gliding on this pad.

I did a poor man's test to see how "glidey" it actually is.

First of all, I placed a cardboard under the QcK+ so it doesn't bend. Then I placed the mouse on the edge of the pad and slowly inserted CDs under the pad.

This method might be ok if my qck was brand new, however the mouse started sliding downwards at mere ~5CDs, whereas the qck needed twice the amount and still the slide was inconsistent.

*pictured is a higly scientific approach to test how slidey mousepads really are

Sorry for the blurry pics, it was dark in my room and I had to use flash and they look ugly :(

This about sums it up, tl;dr version:

g100s:

+ Flawless sensor
+ awesome shape
+ decent build
+ Very lightweight
+ reminds me of WMO
+ price is outstanding

- Needs drivers for DPI steps
- mouse feet could be better
- Let's face it, it's ugly. An elementary school kid with no artistic sense whatsoever was hired to design the mouse.

G440:

+ Incredible never before seen "speed" - reminds me of glass pads with a cloth spirit. Best of both worlds
+ tracking or movement isn't obstructed by the logo
+ minimalist design, looks like the kid was fired
+ sticks neatly on the desk but at the same time it's easy to "peel off"

- Maybe a bit rough on the edges
- Would be nice if it came in bigger sizes
- A bit on the pricey side, although still cheap for a hard pad

Yellow Swans - Going places [2009] :

+ Reminds me of my ex
+ was a great motivational force that was played on loop during the time I wrote all of this down, took the images and did a bit of research
+ Symbolizes the end of an era, it's a valedictory album from Yellow Swans, hence the album name "Going Places"
+ Last track hits close to home, it speaks to you on a whole new level and you can really feel that they left with a bang, something that is forever ingrained in your mind

- Reminds me of my ex
- Some tracks are tedious

SOMA, SCI-FI horror game released today (12 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 05:31 CDT, 22 September 2015 - iMsg
It's September 22, Just a few hours ago, GOG and steam Steam announced that SOMA, a psychological horror survival game by Frictional Games that froze your veins with fear with Amnesia and Penumbra titles are not quite convinced that they've frighten you enough this year.

With SOMA, they're trying a new approach which as opposed to scaring you with dungeon monsters and creepy castles, plays tricks on your mind and leaves you restless even after the credits roll. Storyline is the main focus here, instead of the regular medieval setting, SOMA is sci-fi oriented and doesn't rely (purely) on jump scares but more of a psychological burden, the morality of your actions and discovering the dark and mysterious hacking terminals. Grade A sci-fi mindfuckery at its best.

The timeless classic is returning at full force. The atmosphere that System Shock evokes is something that you have to see for yourself, a game that paved the way for modern RPG games. Not ma

Always been a big fan of GOG. All DRM free releases packed with goodies, sometimes never before seen artwork, strategy guides, FLAC soundtracks for bargain prices.

Now they're stepping their game up by re-re-releasing System Shock: Enhanced edition that support higher resolutions, is much more polished and optimized for modern PCs.

It's on sale until 29 September, goes for $7 a pop and you can get it even cheaper if you already have System Shock 2 in your GOG library.

Also note, Join Stephen Kick (founder and CEO of Night Dive Studios), Daniel Grayshon (Lead Technician in charge of QA at Night Dive Studios) and Paul Neurath (creative Director at Looking Glass Studios, and industry veteran credited on System Shock 2, Thief, Neverwinter Nights and more) for an in-depth, roundtable discussion on the System Shock phenomenon and its many influences in game design to date - on twitch GOGcom stream - September 23, 12:00 CDT

Thread I stumbled upon (faceit, VAC etc) (13 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 21:42 CDT, 13 September 2015 - iMsg
So my phone thinks it can provide daily entertaining news and HLTV posts keep popping up.

This one caught my attention because I haven't really been following the CS:GO scene at all. Since FaceIt (RIP in piece brotherino) left us I haven't really been following that either, but some say it's more efficient than VAC?

It deals with everyday struggles of the cheaters, how the skill rating is unfair, how the devs are deliberately trying to ruin the game by not focusing what's really important... sound familiar?

Anyway thought of posting it here so HF.

p.s. Roychez is somewhat cute and only employed gorgeous guys like stermy and ddk. Coincidence? I think not. Hiring people based solely on their attractiveness is against the law, see you in court fg nob 1300 elo

Someone just released a motion picture with a deep compelling storyline. It has many symbolic meanings and tries to promote traditional family oriented life. It also represents a struggle of the lower class (starring Robotnik)

This is art is its most purest, unadulterated form.

The shape-shifting blue guy represents humanity - the phone symbolizes the will to live on and never give up on your dreams and the future we live in without actual privacy. The message is clear but can be interpreted in various ways.

It's been a while since such a captivating motion picture was released.

Please watch full screen for maximum pleasure.

Scheduled: 11:00 CDT, 11 September 2015 to 11:00 CDT, 13 September 2015
Schedule: Passed

Belgium Belgian based gaming event organizer Frag-o-Matic is hosting a ql Quake Live event this September. It kicks off at 11:00 CDT, 11 September 2024 and ends at 11:00 CDT, 13 September 2024. Frag-o-Matic is a series of gaming festivals that are taking place at least two times a year by organizing the biggest Belgian gaming event.

It's a BYOC event that let's users activate their own rigs to the Frag-o-Matic network. Through this network multiple gaming competitions are organized, most of the time sponsored with great prize packages. Next to these competitions there are many other activities taking place and each event has his own theme, creating a unique atmosphere.
This year's theme is called HEAVEN. As always, visitors who do not bring their own computer, have free access to Frag-o-Matic.

The event will host a Duel tournament, a team-based gametype (based on community interest), and potentially a fun focused tournament. It will run a standard double elimination system Best of 3 up to Round of 8. Semi's and finals Best of 5. Map pool is yet to be announced, you can vote for your favorite duel maps here. The donations incentive is under discussion - it would be great if the community stepped together and chipped in as a sign of gratitude.

Team Deathmatch: 60% (30)

Capture The Flag: 40% (20)

After a quick talk with the Frag-o-Matic organizers, I've deiced to set up a poll to let the ESR userbase vote and discuss which gametypes they would prefer to see on Frag-o-matic LAN event this September 11th. Duel is already confirmed, the second gametype will be decided based on community interest.

There is also a fun focused tournament under discussion - potentially a CA tournament; something for the not-so-competitive players in mind.

This should also shed some light on attendance numbers, community suggestions et cetera.

Again a huge thanks to the FoM team for keeping the dream alive \o/

Got robbed (149 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 15:31 CDT, 20 July 2015 - iMsg
It was, to say the least, a very unpleasant experience.
Thought about adding a few cool pics along the line for easier reading.

All of the things I never really bothered understanding or were borderline annoying to me were finally laid upon me. Hours and hours of tedious interrogation following the unfortunate event, explaining the same story to all the officials, officers, every single guy who pops up at the crime scene and wears some kind of a uniform.

Just a week ago, a lady reported that someone tried to rob her - someone tried to snatch her purse but failed at doing so, there was a car waiting for him. I kindly asked if she could describe the car. I mean, it's not rocket science, right? You saw a god damn car, what was it? Was it a sports car, a wagon, a fucking 4x4 SUV, a city econobox, come on you must have at least seen the shape. She uttered in disgust that it was white-ish, maybe a VW, didn't know anything else. Maybe it wasn't white-ish, she promptly added.
I wanted to call the police but decide to drop it because I felt like a moron calling them in and saying that something could have happened but no one saw anything.

Fast forward a week, I'm doing a night shift at the reception, everything is going as planned, had to compile a bunch of reports, make sure all the prices and services offered to guests are correctly filled out, check reservations and just generally keep an eye on things, help people out in case someone needs anything. There was this lenghty weekly report that I had to write up and it takes quite a bit of time. I routinely grabbed a chair and sat behind the desk, started filling out the forms, eyes were burning from those huge excell cells. Just an ordinary night, no discrepancies.

It's 4:30am, I'm blasting some mellow jazz and focusing on work when I hear footsteps clacking behind my back - I immediately sit up, fix my tie and before I could start talking and greeting, someone, who I previously thought was a hotel guest, was pointing a gun at me. Two armed goons are walking towards me. I will never deny being frightened at that point. Looking at the gun muzzle is like staring into eternity, it's absolutely terrifying when its held against you by masked unknown people.

There's something eerie about a loaded gun being pointed at you. It's almost impossible to describe it. Just think of it as being unwillingly thrown into a cold lake on a hot summer day, your normal bodily functions just stop working properly. It all happens very fast, there's an insane amount of adrenaline rushing through your veins, and yet - all you're able to do is to stare blankly like a deer in the headlights and give in. At that point in time, you simply don't think about doing something radical, something almost heroic. Something you'd be proud of in the aftermath. You simply do as you're told, brain is shut off and tries to cope with the situation, when someone shouts at you and demands money, you give him money, no questions asked. You don't try to trick them.

As you stand there helpless, not knowing if the attackers are equally frightened and trigger happy, you just wish for this to be over. Take whatever the hell you want and leave me alone. Their voices echo through your head during the day. "Don't fucking move", "where's the god damn safe", "we know exactly who you are and where you live". You know it wasn't a personal attack and that it was a bluff, yet hearing those words just doesn't keep your mind at ease. They backed away with the cash and ordered me not to call anyone, I hesitated at first but ringed the cops shortly after.

Cops came in, dressed in hefty kevlar armors, asked me if I'm ok, told me to step out of the crime scene so I don't tamper with potential evidence. You'd think this is where the story wraps up, but there was a total mess and hours upon hours of exhausting interrogation. Bringing up my first point, about how my views changed - this is where it really kicks in.
"What were they wearing?" asked the first cop on the scene. I... I don't know. I don't remember.
Well then try to remember, at least tell us what do you see when you think about the incident.

My memory. Was. Blank. Completely blank. I couldn't think of a single thing from the event that took place just minutes before the cops arrived. They asked me how tall they were. I said about ~6.2 (190cm). The officer wrote down the number 180. I tried my best to describe them, and they showed me the camera recordings. Everything I said was wrong. They asked me about my birth date and it took me a few seconds before remembering it. I later asked why he wrote down 180, when I clearly stated 190. Staring at his notebook and sketching something on it, he mumbled "fear has big eyes".

I felt like an idiot. Same guy who accused the lady of being dumb for not remembering a damn car. I couldn't even point out if they were wearing gloves, hats or hoodies. I'm taking a day off or two, boss wants me to stay at home and rest for a while, at least until I calm my mind. I'm not even sure if I want them to catch the thieves, they were obviously young immigrants, complete amateurs aiming to make it big. Even their jerky movement and obviously scattered thoughts point at unorganized, hasty decisions. It's so easy to talk about what you could have or should have done before it begins.
Well I ain't taking shit from no bandits, they ain't going to mess around on MY turf. Well guess again, because once they do attack, you change your mind insanely fast. I'm doing fine I think, tried to catch some sleep but it was too hot, or maybe I'm just still a bit stressed out.

When my boss arrived I tried to play it cool, tried to make fun of the whole situation - he wasn't worried about money lost since we don't keep much cash at the reception anyway, those scumbags got away with a few bad monthly salaries. He knew that I was just pretending to be fine, or was I? Sure it's a stressful event, but I'm so apathetic, emotionless and without any will for the past few months. Maybe this incident genuinely hasn't "traumatized" me as much as some people claim it did. On a bigger scale, it's not really frontpage news, it was barely mentioned in local news. We talked about future precautions, locking all side doors, placing more cameras around the hotel and so on.

Rode to the police station to once again (for the 10th time no less) help compile the record, the same questions all over again about their appearance, how the gun looked, what exactly did they do when they stepped in and so forth. Overall I think I'm one experience richer, not really sure if I feel satisfied with it or not. It's just a big mess and when you see these chaps on the TV looking all desperate with an almost shell-shocked expression on their face you can't really imagine being in their shoes. I was told by the owners and my boss that I did the right thing, my rational side is agreeing with them, my emotional side just wants a closure.

For now, I just think I'll chill a bit, listen to music that I so dearly missed, grab some iced coffee and take a good night's sleep and get ready for tomorrow's work.
Cheers.

QuakeCon 2015 DOs and DON'Ts (170 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 11:01 CDT, 13 July 2015 - iMsg
Feeling vigorously inspired by jamalz thoughts regarding the recent FaceIt spectacle, I've decided to open up a thread which promotes community input, tips, recommendations et cetera concerning the upcoming LAN event.

I'm going to split it all up neatly into different categories - Stream settings, general tips, things to avoid, things that we want to see, a wishlist.. I'll think of something.
Developers and organizers will be able to see highlights without going knee-deep in murky ESR threads.

Why am I doing this? Because I feel like although organizers, admins, volunteers and everyone else involved are working their ass off to make things run smoothly, sometimes all they need is a bit of a reminder. Scrolling through endless twitch chat emoticons and memes and looking for "solutions" is redundant once the games start.

What exactly am I looking for? Check the aforementioned jamalz post - Team games are incredibly hard to stream, most stream configs don't have binds for followkiller / followpowerup etc

Are you expecting them to cater to every stupid idea ESR comes up with? Definitely not, that's why I have a wishlist section and the stupid idea section, which I believe will be the most active one. Let's hope for a year without spinning logos.

Given the recent exciting events, it's becoming harder and harder to pick out just one from a list of total 142 amazing mass shootings in the United States. Which one is your favourite, which surprised or shocked you the most? Did any leave fond memories?

Half a year has passed and the numbers are still growing, can you imagine how many more unnecessarily killed innocent people will meet their fate by the end of the year? I'd make a poll but there's just too many awesome shootings to choose from, so feel free to vote on the website below or just pick a number and explain why you find it awe inspiring.

Soma, a SCI-FI horror adventure game (5 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 08:34 CDT, 4 June 2015 - iMsg
From the creators of Amnesia, another survival horror game that doesn't rely on jump scares but rather an immersive storyline, outstanding art and atmosphere.

I loved how they dealt with Amnesia series which was less run and hide driven but more focused on storytelling.

As an avid sucker for sci-fi genre and judging from previous Frictional Game titles, I can hardly wait for this title to come out.

Has a nice SystemShock/BioShock vibe to it.
Also, I think the main character is a robot, the pixelated screen and odd height kinda gave it away

Solution for reflex ingame item timers (55 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 02:12 CDT, 19 May 2015 - iMsg
Reflex devs finally found a way to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds.

The new HUD which shows item timers is a great addition for those unfamiliar with timing and meta game aspect - at the same time it arguably ruined the competitive aspect and a large portion of so called meta game.

A future update will include a HUD callvote that enables or disables the timers for all participants on the server.

Official statement from newborn:
At some point in a future update we will be adding a "callvote lockhud" command. This will force players to use the official, unmodified HUD files only and will not include item timers (or strafe jump helpers, or grenade timers etc). Over time, this will become part of a larger system of settings that are appropriate for competitions and high level play but not for general pub games.

InstaDoom- igram filters on doom palette (2 comments, locked)

"There have been various attempts over the years to "improve" the Doom palette. While these attempts had various goals, and succeeded to various degrees, one question remains: did the authors get paid billions of dollars for recoloring pictures? No? Then their attempts were objectively inferior to one group of people who did!

That's right, now you can play Doom with any one of no less than 37 real Instagram filters, all painstakingly recreated in the Doom engine! Memento Mori with Mayfair! Requiem with Rise! Icarus with Inkwell! Alien Vendetta with Aden or Valencia!"

Reflex update released, netcode changes (248 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 23:08 CST, 16 January 2015 - iMsg
Refex developers released a rather hefty update that plays a vital role in online FPS titles. - the netcode has been reworked, Ion Cannon (The quake lightning gun equivalent) damage has been lowered from 9 to 7 along with its knockback, spawn system has changed, hit sounds have been updated and plenty bugs were squashed. A snippet from the overview dealing with netcode
"The new Reflex netcode uses a combination of extrapolation and backwards reconciliation in attempt to keep what you're seeing consistent across clients and servers. This lag compensation has an upper limit of 80ms -- if you have more than an 80ms ping, you'll need to lead by ping - 80ms. I.e, if your ping is 100ms, you'll need to lead by 20ms.
Our backwards reconciliation has the same limit -- if your enemy has a ping of over 80ms, they won't be able to shoot you from 500ms in the past."
You are welcome to give it a shot, report feedback to developers and let them know how the netcode feels right now - if you're pinging below 80 it should be quite noticeable.

2nd December of 1999 marks the date when Quake 3 Quake III Arena was released. It used the id Tech 3 engine, a competitor to the Unreal engine, both widely licensed, renown and still used to this very day. The game has since become a cult classic, the rise of Quake III Arena marks an important history of esports. The game has received overwhelming strong positive reviews on Metacritic and Gamerankings, giving the Dreamcast version a rating of 93/100 and the PS2 Version 84/100. The PC version scored 89/100.

It was the first part in the quake series that distanced itself from the single-player story driven predecessors. With the huge success from older titles, idsoftware id software decided to put more emphasis on multi-player, channeling all their focus on fluidity, net-code, and online functions. There is an offline campaign available which let's players climb their ranks and defeating PC controlled opponents. Atmosphere resembles the old quakes, including Gothic and Lovecraftian themes with a few new tricks up it's sleeve such as cyber-gothic areas and futuristic level designs.

Although lore was never a big part of the game, it attracted plenty fan-fiction writers and cosplayers. It was ported to PlayStation 2, Dreamcast and Xbox live.

Quake III Arena and its respective mods are still relatively active, have communities and are generally accepted as one of the most remarkable games ever made with an enormous community that shook the world. One may argue that it is the last great thing done by the core id software team, with big names still actively involved in the development.

"Welcome to the Arena, where high-ranking warriors are transformed into spineless mush. Abandoning every ounce of common sense and any trace of doubt, you lunge onto a stage of harrowing landscapes and veiled abysses. Your new environment rejects you with lava pits and atmospheric hazards as legions of foes surround you, testing the gut reaction that brought you here in the first place. Your new mantra: Fight or be finished."

Wickland Added To ESL Cup Series (83 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 11:15 CST, 18 November 2014 - iMsg
There's a noticeably increasing tension between modern upcoming first person shooters, developers are doing their best to properly market their product to both casual player base and competition thirsty veterans. As it turns out, most developers are trying to push their products on the market and attempt to kickstart their very first organized competitions in order to establish the primal competitive structure, which hopefully brings in more people interested in the genre.

Starting in December, Wickland is opening their first cup series with the help of ESL new games department. The game is currently on sale through steam. A key raffle will also be held, more info about the cup can be found in this news.

PCGamer article about recent QL changes (12 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 18:48 CDT, 27 August 2014 - iMsg
So if all else fails, at least the word is finally out and people talk about our game.

An editor from PCGamer Andy Chalk posted an article in regards to the community outburst and reaction to latest game changes.

For a fun time, check the comment section.

"They've compared the game with chess, however essentially what they've done is taken the queen out of chess because it's not noob friendly."

"Well. Way to ruin a classic game. Nice work."

"Damn... how newbie friendly do games have to be nowadays... as I recall Quake 3 is about as close to 'insert CD and fire' as you can get. In fact you don't even need to insert the CD any more you can just go to the website and start flailing wildly.

I don't want to be some PC elitist but this is a pretty pathetic case of dumbing down. I mean come on. Dwarf Fortress? Sure. Ikaruga? Yep. Quake...? Come on man..."

The great debate: nerfed LG. Why? (263 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 12:57 CDT, 27 August 2014 - iMsg

Tried to cut it up and make it as short as possible.

TL;DR
LG is the only weapon that got nerfed, it has no positive effects on beginners OR veterans alike.

I'm trying to find a REASONABLE explanation as to why this happened? What was the though process? Why has no one talked about his and then suddenly "lol lg 2 op"

Quake Live Update - August 27, 2014 (755 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 11:44 CDT, 27 August 2014 - iMsg
The long awaited update that stirred up a lot of heated arguments is finally here, this is one of the first steps towards the transition that will prepare ql Quake Live for the official steam Steam release. The developers included a heartfelt message along with the changelog, instead of the stale config variable and map fixes, this time the impactful changes won't leave anyone unaffected. The mellow message from the developers shines light on a new perspective that you either love or hate. Is this a new beginning or the everlasting end? You decide.
"Quake is a masterful game of skill, often compared to Chess by its veteran players. However, with that depth has come a challenge to welcome and capture new players long enough for them to discover the joy to be found in what many consider the finest Deathmatch game ever made."

Do not put "classic" behind the paywall (73 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 18:17 CDT, 8 August 2014 - iMsg
As the title says, based on some unconfirmed leaks about the latest upcoming update, id software are supposedly planing to include a new default ruleset for public servers. The change log vaguely implies that "classic" mode will be only available for subscribers.
While I applaud and welcome the addition of another ruleset, default or not, limiting the main game or making it payable is a bit of a stretch.
The changelog is still a work in progress and subject to change. I decided to set up this thread for this exact reason - if there is a way to change their minds, it's time to act now while things are still up in the air.

I hope the community and the developers can find a common ground and resolve this issue.

Instead of rambling about the inevitable death and cursing like an old sailor, let's try to get as much support as we can, without redundant insults and threats.

I propose keeping classic VQL free for all users and that it gets listed in match browser along with casual ruleset.

Reasons are as follow:
- The game you made and people (started to) love is the reason why we've come so far, people moved from q3 and other games to give QL a shot and obviously stuck around to this very day.

- It's perfectly fine if you add new stuff and limit it for subscribers, but taking the core/main game and putting it behind the paywall is unjustified

- this will not in any form or way benefit the old, loyal players. Sure, some of them may not be a paying customer, but denying them of the privilege of playing "classic" quake is again, unjustified.

- While relying on subscribers to maintain the game alive is perfectly understandable, the same instance you put classic quake behind the paywall you can get completely rid of the "free" tag for the game.

- do not charge it because it's competitive, quake has been a source of immense fun for thousands of players, labeling it "competitive" just so you can charge for it is wrong

- ...might add something later

It's like adding freezetag and blocking all other content - I've been a paying customer since day one and I want to play with people around the world, please reconsider limiting classic quake.
The surge from steam might be or not be that successful, however this does not warrant a paywall.

Feel free to add suggestions and share this thread around to get as much support as possible, instead of bitching about changes maybe we can try reasoning with the devs

Sincerely, a slightly concerned player.

The 2014 season kicks off tomorrow with the first official race taking place in Qatar Qatar. Even though Lorenzo "threatened" to leave Yamaha and join Ducati Corse team, the teams remain largely unchanged for the top contenders. What are you predictions for this season? Young Spain Marquez beating the old legends or ending up in the dirt? Does Italy Rossi still have what it takes to take the podium? In other news, Spain Espargaro is showing some great riding skills although times will probably drop a lot in qualifiers and race. He even managed to drop a whole second in Free Practice 3.

Will the history repeat itself with Ducati's riders mopping the floor on straights with Italy Dovizioso reaching a top speed of 348km/h (216 mph)?

I'll be adding stream links for today's Free Practice 4 and Qualifier #1 / Qualifier #2

I could probably set up some fixtures or more likely polls if there's enough interest

k1llsen retires from gaming (177 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 14:31 CDT, 15 March 2014 - iMsg
The leading Germany German force in the quake franchise just announced his retirement from gaming due to various events in real life. The now 27 year old player was active in Quake 3, Quake 4 and Quake Live games. Earlier today he set up a valedictory stream, sharing his opinions about previous tournaments, answering questions from the community and explaining his motives for leaving e-sports.
Game-wise he was known for his outstanding railgun usage, hitting inhuman shots which always left the spectators in awe. Insanely high acceleration and twitchy movement that brought headaches to viewers were also a prominent element in his game. Never arrogant and always helpful, the cheerful German decided to pursue another path, focusing more on his family and admitting that gaming was just too addictive and not worth it if you can't give your best and entertain the viewers, which prevented him from reaching desired goals in life.
Marcel "k1llsen" Paul also announced on facebook that he will remain active for another month, potentially taking part in April's 125FPS online duel league.

Razer first mech for gaming in the world (69 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 12:14 CST, 6 March 2014 - iMsg
Have you heard about the company called Razer? They are experts in bullshit claims, overhyped and often misleading terms.
They are the ones who brought us "Worlds first Mechanical Switch
designed for Gaming". While we're at it, please do ignore this fake switches made in fucking 1984 by cherry, those aren't GAMING switches dummy!

So what razer did was take the existing cherry switch, implement a marginal change that no user will ever to distinguish from other available switches and added fancy BIG NUMBERS.

"Ultra durable – up to 60 million key strokes" Wow, I wonder how many people throw away their IBM model M after just 50 million key strokes.

It also has a 1.9mm actuation point. This slight minor deviation will make you a better gamer. Apparently?

Bear in mind, all that cherry did the 80s is now worthless despite providing all sorts of switches for all sorts of comfort and needs.

"The Razer Mechanical switch is designed to actuate at an optimal distance of 1.9mm into the keystroke, and reset itself to fire again at less than half the distance of standard mechanical switches. This allows for blazing fast actuations without having the need to bottom down into the keystroke each time."

In short, if you're looking for razer green switch stick to blue, if you want the orange one stick to brown.

Fucking razer.

In our era, we have modern, faster CPUs and faster graphic processors being developed each day. Our body cannot keep track with such advancements but fear not, for just $249 you can have a brain stimulating device that will help you improve your gaming experience.

This nifty device will make all timing apparatus and cheat codes obsolete, this is the new era, this is the future of gaming.

Simply apply to your forehead, use the android app to increase brain acticity and see how worthless plebeians tremble beneath your massive, brain filled boot.

And last but not least, sam hyde testimonial of CRIMINAL ... uhh I mean cranium... activity.

Doom4 beta with Wolfenstein:TNO preorder (144 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 10:19 CST, 19 February 2014 - iMsg
The long awaited First Person Shooter that started it all, just months after the 20th Doom Classic Anniversary, Doom 4 closed beta will be available with a pre-order of another one of id id software upcoming titles, Wolfenstein: The New Order. An action packed, visually stunning and gorey trailer was released, combined with a cheerful 1960's German tune in the background.

The release dates are as follows: United States of America May 20, Australia May 22, Europe May 23. It will be available across multiple platforms, including PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. According to Matt Grandstaff, Global Community Lead, Bethesda Softworks, "The game offers a deep narrative packed with action, adventure and first-person combat rendered in stunning detail with id Software’s id Tech 5 engine". But now more about Doom 4, now called just "Doom". The game has been in development for 6 years now, facing numerous changes and some hindrances regarding the art style and spirit that the game should evoke. Pete Hines, then Bethesda marketing boss mentioned that the game "did not exhibit the quality and excitement that id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that Doom fans worldwide expect, As a result, id refocused its efforts on a new version of Doom 4 that promises to meet the very high expectations everyone has for this game and this franchise. When we're ready to talk about the Doom 4 id is making, we will let folks know."

A lot of information is still hidden behind the veil of secrecy, there is no approximate Beta release date either. The FAQ link is listed below. The 18+ requirements indicates guts splattered on the wall and that true bloody grimy feel that doom should deliver. Beta codes will come enclosed with your boxed copy of Wolfenstein: TNO, you will be able to redeem the code, although the beta beings later on a yet-to-be announced date. Date will be announced on the provided email.

The elusive "ASUS" GD245HQ (No comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 07:18 CST, 7 February 2014 - iMsg
I'm really loving what Asus did with the stand, it's a "3d" stand which means it moves around like a fucking snake on acid. Or some shit.

Anyway, I was inspecting the Acer back shell and it looked like it could fit... so I grabbed my tools and went to work.

This was the first monster I created.

The stand couldn't hold the weight up and it kept falling down, so naturally I stripped the original acer stand which made it better. But still not quite there.

I've accidentally deleted the image, but in order to make this work you need to open the GD245HQ and strip it from all the "inesential" parts, just think weight reduction plan and remove piece by piece.

Anyway probably not a major breakthrough for humanity, but I haven't been dealing with stands so this was new for me.

s|You may have known her (35 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 21:09 CST, 6 February 2014 - iMsg
I never have problems remembering her name. I need to be careful not to be caught off guard and mistakenly call someone else by her name. Letting anyone know about her would be the beginning of a rather large fall that I don't wish to be part of. No need to be pushed down the well this time round, especially if it's easily avoidable. Her name was Lucy, her breasts were juic- you know what look, I don't want to go there, I'm trying not to go there but my brain keeps telling me this is vital to the story. Let's lay the cards on the table, her bosom wasn't exactly the highlight of her silky, milky white athletic body.
As I stroll around my imagination I keep thinking about how unfitting they were. Bottom line is there such a thing is an ugly boob? As long as it's not on your back and doesn't touch you knees I don't think people will mind. Some prefer them saggy. But that wasn't the case - her inhumanly fit body was like that of an 8 year old boy who decided to hit the gym. Those tits were like two innocent bunnies just sitting on top of her chest. Emphasis on small... bunnies. Flat-chested girls are amazing, the whole bigger equals better mentality is stuck in the 80's along with beaverish hairy male chests and a distinctive negligence for genital hygiene. When I asked if she fancies a titfuck she looked me in the eyes with displeasure and the only reply I received was silent treatment. The silent minute was discomforting so naturally, playing the dumb macho role I posed the question again, louder, more intrusive, more arrogant. Ignorance is bliss, once you accept the role of a idiot everything is much easier... so I thought. What seems to be the problem? I asked. If you enjoy it and it's something we haven't done before that could be exciting, what's holding you back? .

Those two bunnies gazed at me, she got these huge puppy eyes, her areola got bigger, it was moment of pure chauvinistic transcendence. I.... I don't think we can do it... they're just too small. It felt like achieving a trophy for being superior. It felt like pure, unadulterated dominance. It was a chance to shine, a chance to prove there's more to this human soulless shell. A chance to redeem myself from being completely void and stripped of all emotions. Honey really? They look amazing and feel great too, you don't have to be shy about the size, it prefer them this way. Fucking well played. Hm? Not amazed? Not even a flinch of emotions? Just ... 100 yard stare like I just told her about her mother's terminal condition? I deserve at least a fucking hug for being a lying bastard enjoying this moment of superiority. You know bullshit aside, those tits were actually too small for some X rated movie titfucking. That wasn't the point, it's never the point to make it look like a scene from a movie. You never drill someone's ass hole in hope to look like Patrick Bateman doing a whore. You always do it to free yourself and your partner from the meat-world and together fly into the abyss of eroticism and insomnia. How am I to explain this to a broken down girl? It's over. The deal is off. Unless of course, I give it a shot without her permission. Then it hit me. Switch places for a bit and try to comprehend the complexity of the situation from you own, ignorant, self-absorbed, chauvinistic view. Replace her cute little bunnies with an inadequate penis. She wants missionary now and you just can't reach the spot. We've all had our ups and premature downs, no one is completely comfortable with his imperfections.

We're at a red light, a guy stops besides me and gives me the thumbs up. I chuckle a bit and tell Lucy she looks lovely. What I really meant was that I'm pleased that she took care of her hair and is wearing glasses. Her face was just made that way. Remove the glasses, say hello to one of the most unattractive rat-faced females. It just wasn't "right". That was the last night we spent together. I don't think it had anything to do with her tits, neither of us had plans to start dating anyway. She used to love Italian music, Italian food and later found a gypsy guy who she mistakenly took for an Italian Latin lover. The alcohol is the ying-yang that brought us together and broke her family apart. It became a part of her life, it consumed her and it consumed me. Was it a red flag, a cry for help or just a way of life? Excessive drinking, prostitution, drug abuse, can it all be neglected if you pay your taxes, are a functional member of society with a finished Master's degree and a decent income? Few nights before our final almost ritualistic sexual practice, she shared the story about giving head to a guy in a public restroom. She found him making out with another guy on the same evening and decided to call it quits, block him from all social media contacts, erase his number and never speak a word with him. Did she get the kicks from it? What's with the whole, "I'm going to blow your fucking mind, smear all your load all over my tight body, insert my soapy fingers inside of you and banish you to eternal silence after a week" mentality. There has to be more than that, the seemingly innocent rat-eyed girl has to be more than just a shell, an alcohol fuelled robot.

For better or for worse, the small talk diminished to occasional head nod. Nights spent together, moments shared and stupidly high cellphone bills were now gone. Awaiting the next victim... the questions remains... will you be the master or the slave?

She had blonde hair, a glorious body that people would kill for and a soul that even Satan would fear.

Or... is it only me? has it always been me? I am the alcohol fuelled robot.

Quake Live is now tracking Race records (5 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 17:59 CST, 27 January 2014 - iMsg
Shortly after the announcement of QLRanks tracking race records, Quake Live is now tracking race records as well.

The full list can be found here
edit: You need to be signed in to Quake Live to view this page

Disclaimer: This is a "soft launch" and not the final product. Race leader board will be improved with more search functions, your own placement et cetera

start a match is now modified so that changing anything to a race server makes it unranked, so only "pure" servers are eligible.

Now go out there and race your heart out

Anyone care to see changes to Phrantic? (61 comments)
Posted by Teen Queen @ 15:53 CST, 13 January 2014 - iMsg
Option B: 71% (73)

Option C: 23% (24)

Option A: 5.8% (6)

Option A - Add a MH at the teleporter entrance and change the 50hp to a 25hp.

Option B - Make significant geometry changes, such as providing more fighting space in the current tight hallways.

Option C - No, don't bother -- even if updating it wouldn't take any significant amount of time.

SyncError: "Phrantic was really well received in both CPM and in Quake 4, but as everyone knows, it hasn't been too popular in Quake Live, even in PQL.

Personally, I'm pretty happy that the map author swelt wanted to stick with a Q4 geometry style, but the current map doesn't appeal to players for various reasons (not interesting enough geometry, fighting space is cramped compared to the CPM versions, the Q4 geometry was designed for crouchsliding, not a lot of head room for air control, etc)."
