Would be nice to hear some technical matters about the conversion. Looks like Q4 maps do not require decompilation to get the original geometry, but how well they fit Q3/QL/Q2? Can they be used verbatim or require brush stretching/shrinking, etc.?
Having a working conversion script for Q4-to-Q3/2 *.map files somewhere on GitHub would be also very much appreciated. ^_^
Thanks for reply. Artifacts are inevitable and that's OK, those are easily fixable. So, no geometry (brush coordinates) adjustments? I'm asking because I'm thinking of converting some Q4 maps to Q2, and would rather avoid any scaling unless Q4 map sizes/movement are way too different.
Listing Phrantic here deems questionable: crouchslide-friendly one would be Q4 version which apparently is (was?) not too popular in Quake Live, even in PQL, for a number of reasons.
IMHO original version (cpm24) is more portable across different games (Q3A/QL); I've started a Q2 conversion last year but it's still in beta (needs more cleaning and optimizations) yet slowly crawling towards a release. :-)
Phrantic was popular because Q4 came with shit maps out of the box and Phrantic was first to fill the void. The map is as simple as a two story banana.
