Actually..we are. That's one of the Bush policies I guess I sort of have to agree with. Let's throw out terrorism totally for the sake of arguement. If you just let the Middle East go by itself with no intervention, the most powerful country will eventually wipe out the other poor and ill equipped neighboring countries (aka Saddam and Iraq vs Kuwait). And once there is one huge middle eastern power a few things will happen. The most obvious two are the threat to neighboring African and European countries and total control over most of the world's oil. Which is a surely a bad thing for all industrialized nations. In a very short time you will have an attack on Israel. Of course (given the history of the conflict between them and other Arab nations...aka Iraqi SCUD bombing of Israel), the Israelies have learned not to take any shit. So do you really want Israel to destroy the rest of middle east with nuclear weapons, and have that huge radioactive cloud come fly over YOUR country? As threatened as they feel, I'm sure they would be happy to do this in a drop of a hat . This is all common knowledge and the ONLY reasons we are in Iraq. Stability of the Middle East.

Stability in the middle east is dependent upon the stability of that country. You have to look at the big picture, not just American nationalism or emotion or whatever you call it. This is all very real. Which is why the US is supported in almost everything they do in the middle east by the UN. Unlike you, they are able to open their minds, and get past the America bashing. Also, if certain problems such as this weren't kept in check, they would soon become EVERYONE'S problems. Remember what happened in Germany when an economy was faltering and THOSE people were living in ruin and had no where to turn. If given the chance, there will always be some crazy asshole in the middle east that rises up and has the people rally around him while he says "We have the right to kill all these other people because our God says so." Who wants that.
