No, you are confusing VLC with those shitty DirectShow based players. VLC is portable and does not depend on any crap Windows APIs!

The only "renderer" that these other Windows players support is dshow/vfw, while vlc supports those and X11, OpenGL, SDL etc...

If you meant "codec" by saying "renderer" then you are wrong, too. VLC supports other codecs installed on your system to play back WMV9, REAL e.g., but mostly this is not needed as it includes ffmpeg/libavcodec (which ffdshow is also based on) to decode all important formats like mpeg4, h.264 etc. very efficiently. VLC also includes its own demuxers for avi, mpg, mp4/mov, rm, mkv, ogg etc., that are more error resistant, making it possible to play even broken files.

no regular user would ever want or try use another renderer than dshow on a windows machine o_O at most ppl would switch between overlay and vmr9 when it comes to dshow
any other proper player would play real, quicktime, whatever too ;) you just have to set the proper options... but most players support those things by default anyway nowadays

it looks ugly, even in comparison to other players with a low profile look
skipping and fast forwarding in video in vlc sucks ;> it's not accurate and you always get artifacts on screen by doing it
the player has problems with quite a few files using x264 in mkv container... where it crashes on opening the file [only plays the audio, fails to render the video]
also it frequently fails to render subtitle streams in ogm and mkv properly...

i could list many more things :P

Matroska is a moving target, it's not stable yet. Also there are not many movies out there using it.

well... 90% of all (R1) anime dvd rips are done using mkv as container nowadays [usually 2 audio streams, sometimes several subtitle streams... both srt and styled ssa/ass], and quite a few fansub groups have switched to x264 as video codec as well - and x264 requires advanced containers such as mp4 or mkv after all (everything else would result in broken files, or require to disable advanced features of the codec...)
means there are plenty of files out there that just dont play in vlc for me while they play fine in mpc or zp

Well these groups should try to move to mp4, because it's well defined and standarized, even by the ISO. But I have to admit, I don't know how well the creation of mp4 files containing multiple subtitles/audio streams works with the tools that are currently available. I think http://www.doom9.org should have some guides.

Not much for UT2k4, though I was playing UT last night and having a blast. Always up for a good movie. :) Wish the download would go faster though 150k is nothing really to complain about. Bad music? For shame.. :(

Win32.Jeefo.A is a virus that infects PE files.

Once activated, it copies itself as SVCHOST.EXE to the Windows directory, launches it as a separate process, then passes control back to the host program. The virus then installs itself as a service to stay in memory. The following registry key is created on Win9x systems:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\PowerManager, = "%Windows%\SVCHOST.EXE"

On Win2k, the service name is "Power Manager":

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\PowerManager\ImagePath, "%Windows%\svchost.exe"

Note that SVCHOST.EXE is a valid system filename that exists in the System directory. The virus-created SVCHOST.EXE contains only the virus itself and is 36,352 bytes in size.

The virus searches drive letters C to Z for fixed disks. Once found, all directories are searched for suitable PE file to infect. Infected files increase 36,352 bytes in size, but the last modified date and time remains the same.

The virus body contains the following hidden message (although this is never displayed to the user):

"Hidden Dragon virus. Born in a tropical swamp"

Note: The virus may corrupt some files. Such files may not work correctly after cleaning and removal of the virus code. The corrupted programs will need to be restored from backups or the original installation packages.

ut ppl are stuggeling to capture their movies, and q4 movies are already being made with super quality + sound.
i mean, how hard can it be for epic for put the drawgun in there...

yeah, i guess dumpframes is fine... but if your machine isn't fast enouh it will skip frames, please correct me if i understood it wrong, only read about dumpframes, haven't used it yet.

quake and movieunreal will slow down the game to ensure that you get the framerate you want, that way you can use any rez + detail. very nice.

also i think sound capturing should be somehow included, i wonder if you have to run q4 a second time to capture the sound, dunno.

and...having the gun in there would really be nice.
