i know ppl have asked you before, but have you tried tunneling with the http port ? i remember some guy in my school doing it, he didnt play q3 tho, but he did other stuff, like irc and remotly controling his pc at home etc. maybe it could work out for games also ?

yup, i used http-tunnell.............. till they blocked it, and i'm sure if i had enough expertise then i'd find another way. maybe a proxy? but i don't really know how to set one up, and then i'd need a good connection on the server or something??? (lol duno dat much about it really). another thing with http-tunnel was that it only let me connect to irc, and other things like DC(++) but games didnt work, and would have been mostly unplayable anyway i'm guessing.

i got it to work once, but as you said, its unplayable (at least with the http-tunnel software, there are too many people using those servers, and god knows where those servers are) :/

It's a client connected to IRC from some other place, and you connect through it. You can configure the bouncer to use any port you want, so you can avoid blocked ports. Google it, "irc bouncer" or something.

took me a while to get back to grips, and was so ethusiastic i did a great new cfg from scratch. still got 56k modem though, so unless its at the local lan its a fuckin bot orgy frag-a-fag-athon dont ya know

i have lots of friends that have their origins in Algeria, they fly there every once in a while, and they've told me they already had 10Mb/s for quite a long time :) and btw, im gonna ask them tonight for the price, but its like 10 times cheaper than here, since their currency is worth about 1 tenth or ours ;)

The fast internet connections that u have in Sweden is maybe the main reason that sweden has so many good players. It's more fun to play with 5-10ms and with such a ping u adjust to lan pings immediately. It's not the same for the rest of the Europe or USA.

you are right. There is no way I'm playing on a ping over 20 before a lan tourney because some stuff that works on the internet with ping over 20 usually won't work on lan.

o_O !! wtf wow no playing with ping over 20... dude my pings always, and without exception, over 20... 35 at the very least. well but HAHAHAHAHAH the czech telecom (cesky telecom) has just been bought by supposedly the most succesfull telecomunnications company in Europe, the spanish telecom. so pings will hopefully get better :D but now theyre still around 50 and up :(

I used to play with all those very low graphical details and cg_drawgun 0 and all that stuff but in some day I thought that I wanna play again with nice graphics and now I'm playing on highest details, showgun 1 and still I play better than those days. These details are making the difference only in your mind, the real difference is about 1-5% from the maximum. If I'd have 50 ping I'd play every day on servers.

If you take a break and start playing again first you move a little bit worst, the problem is that you forget the perfect angles and the collision detection, so many times you go close to health-or another pickup but you don't touch it :(
But the good think with the breaks is that after some practice you come better than in the past, I always came better before the break.
I think that I wouldn't make big progresses if I wouldn't take breaks.

btw: about your playing style when you go against fazz on p-t4: you are playing too aggressive and don't have patience, and are not carefull enough, that's why he is beating you on this map

Not much time to play when you're studying hard @ Uni,
so I find myself playing 3 maps with a friend once in a few months or so,
It's always a lot of fun, it keeps reminding me how close to perfection Q3 is to me :)

was about 6 months, without one game
came to irc again to contact my dealer and was informed bout eswc, that was 1 day before it so i phoned a friend to burn q3 for me once again
he had like 90% the same config, so i didnt have to modify much
first game on a czech server, two guys were giving each other a hard time on ztn, then i played and owned the winner and he disconnected haha
was about the funniest thing about quake i ever experienced

the czech are known to be great at quake!
