I think it's going to be very hard for all of the competing teams. I'd say sil/xron and tox/clawz are the only ones who can play close games with them. But Rapha and Dahang have an enormous amount of lan experience, and I remember how intense their comms were last DH.

Basically they getting beaten in scrims online means not much, they'll go h4m @ LAN and play way better than they do now for sure.

Because they ruined Quake, first with their Quake 4 console cash grab then followed Quake Live cash grab now with this. Nobody asked for DotA Quake, nobody asked for a terrible Overwatch clone either and especially nobody ask them to invent stupid game modes out of thin air, that nobody cares about, except for the 10 people who get paid to play them.

If they had done any form of market research of their past games they would have seen that CTF, CA were the most popular modes that kept Quake alive, but they didn't because all the brain & talent left the company one after another when they realised where this shit is going to end with the new "talent" and lack of vision.

So in essence, it is sad to see id software go, but at the same time, this is not the id software that created master pieces, so for all I care they could go the way of the Dodo tomorrow.

CTF wasn't what kept Quakelive alive, and CA is considered by many as a noob mode for people who can't play "the real" quake. So putting CA and CTF at the forefront of any new quake wouldn't have helped for shit.

Besides, the problem with QC isn't the whole TDM thing or the fact that CA and CTF aren't launched yet.

Thing is, we CARE about QUAKE - unlike the fucking devs. Twenty plus years spent with the franchise does that.

After all you've actually spent even more time on the game even while feeling strongly about how bad it is.

That's where you get it wrong. What is or isn't Quake isn't defined by your definition of it or what you think it should be. I'm not disagreeing that QC is different to previous quakes and feels a lot more clunkier / more UT like. But it is still the quake series, from the same devs, played by the same pro players, with mostly the same weapons, maps, concept and gametypes. Yes there's been some changes to the gameplay too like abilities and whatnot, but just because you don't like those changes doesn't mean it's not Quake.

The real problem is that you're stuck in the past and unless a new quake game comes out and feels exactly like Q3 or QL then it won't be quake. I remember people saying the same thing about Q4 when it came out because of the engine, design, and so on.

What I did invest?

Well, taking financials out of the picture - a SHITLOAD of time and emotion playing, helped a TON of people with related technical problems (being hardware stuff or configs), taught newcomers how to play, free of charge, without any real benefit for me (we are talking about many-many hours here), took part in community polls and petitions to reverse utterly retarded "developments", provided constructive feedback to devs (to no avail, obviously, so I'm not into that anymore - because it's just a huge waste of time), continously tried to popularize the Quake games both IRL and on various internet forums, took part in some cups, reached highest echelon in FFA (now getting rusty there, but that doesn't change the past), competed in various TDM divisions (including leading a team to victory, undefeated I might add, with all the administration stuff that relates to it as well) throughout the years with relative success. Even streamed a bit, but that's too much of a hassle.

So I think I have my fair share of investment.

My answer to your question is irrelevant as a) unlike you I didn't say I've invested and dedicated a lot to the franchise b) unlike you I don't call others "uninvested" because they don't play as much as I do or because they don't hate on QC.

But as you're so interested here's the answer: just like you I've played most quake games an their different gametypes and also played in some cups here and there. I've also purchased every single quake game at a point or another, paid for a monthly pro subscription on QL for ages to host servers before it got released on steam and then purchased the game on steam, bought QC with the champions pack and invested another 20€ in the game, and so on. I also got some people from other games to play Quake by essentially verbally selling it to them and then helped them with config stuff and tips etc. I also provided feedback to the devs both on QL and QC. So in that sense my contribution is quite similar to yours in essence.

But again, unlike you I didn't say I invested and dedicated a lot to the series because playing the game and talking about it is not what I call real investment and dedication. I guess if you had organised some quake tournaments or lans, or created some mods or maps, or hosted a public server for free you could say you've actually contributed, but your contribution definitely doesn't justify saying you've dedicated so much to the franchise and calling others "uninvested".

Actually hosted pub FFA server for a few weeks as well btw. It was during the start of the heavy recession, so it wasn't really worth the effort - hence I terminated it and basically left pub almost completely.

Generalizing people as backward based on a game's release date is an attempt on superiority.

People who dont like QC mostly have arguments (technical issues, objectively bad design decisions, tournament management), while all you do is spam these forums with crap about qc being new and having more players.

The issues with QC that people point out are definitely here and I'm not pretending they aren't, nor would I argue against them. However the senseless abuse towards the game, it's creators and those play it is not what I would associate with that so-called common sense.

The only time I bring up number of players is when people are either making false claims such as saying there are less players on QC than last year (its the opposite), or when they say that the reason previous quakes are so great is because "they're still being played".

Honestly, they deserve to win. The amount of time and effort they put in the game and how they analyze each match is what world champions are supposed to do (be it in game or sport).
It really shows in their team play, communication, coordination and timing.

Having said that they're going to have a tough time against tox/clawz. Constant pressure and aim can pretty much throw any tactical approach out the window.

It will definitely be interesting to watch.

It's absurd that nobody else has managed to put together just 2 tdm players. Just 2! Not 4, not even 3.

What is toxic doing with Clawz? Where are Stermy, Noctis, Latrommi, Fazz, all the other real, tested team players? Instead you have people like Killsen and Clawz improvising themself team players, (and the fact they kind of did good speaks volume about this game).

Worthless tournament so far. And still worthless in duel mode. A clown fiesta of aim whoring and stupid random abilities.

Clawz would have never won a duel torunament in quake 3/live.

Whoever wins duel tomorrow won't really deserve it, but stumble his way in the place.

clawz may have won a tournament in quakelive at this point, as he was clearly on the rise in quakelives late days. Currently he is kinda facing the same bad bias cypher did in the beginning - a new kid with great aim and an agressive, solid but basic gameplan that shakes up the oldschoolers mentality of "player X should win because he always did and oooh the tactics"

the "other" team players you mention have simply moved on in their lives to a point where they cba to see gaming as much more than a hobby. Since tdm wasn't a thing in QC until recently you can hardly blame so many duel players to be present atm. In the end its not like anybody forced the teams to group up like this.

Cypher started winning big tournaments at 16 years old. He was clearly a much brighter talent. When a guy reaches top level at that age, it's clear he has another gear and can only get better.

And his gameplay was more well rounded and less aim based than Clawz's. Or lets say less aim dependant. Cypher could do anything good.

Clawz on the other hand always struggled in the more item centric quake live while he suddenly felt at home and started performing in clow fiesta quake chimpions.

I remember one of the last times most pros were still playing quake live, Cypher was streaming and queued with Clawz. Clawz was outaiming him consistently, but Cypher didn't care, he wouldn't shut up about item spawn times and rotations, stacks and positions, it's all he was talking about.

Always talking about hitting shots hypothetically. "IF i hit that rail i could have challenged more, instead i'll go for yellow and try to postion for red"

He was reading Clawz like a book, he always knew and called when he was gonna charge in, "now he's gonna rush me" he saw everything in advance.

Cypher understands quake at a deep level. His game is still very underrated, and mostly focused on the flashy highlight reel shot he sometimes has to put in. But that's not what runs the game, and he knows it.

For all those reasons, i doubt Clawz would have won anything in quake live/3.

But we'll never know, sadly.

Let's also not forget he only won 2 tournaments. His time at the top could have already ended, in this chaos theory game.

The meta could change, Rapha could finally go full retard and thus start winning, or Raisy might come back, or the meta could change.
