since epic games ruined UT4 anyway, i doubt anybody would want to play that game.

Last time I installed it, all I could find was Elimination games. I don't like games that force me to wait.

I idle on the duel server occasionally find a duel but not so much

hey sTPHN, I am aware that you're not entitled to large chunks of knowledge in Africa, but you could at least inform yourself a bit more before posting.

Thing with "community" development of ut is: you need Epic to give you access and approve every community stuff. You can't even build the game without Epic's consent. So there, community devs don't suck, Epic just doesn't care.

Difference is when that happened to Q3, that community will have had tens of thousands - if not hundreds of thousands. At the same time, you didn't have a new, cool game popping up in your Steam client every day.
Back then, your choices were pretty much Q3, UT or Camper-Strike if you wanted to play an FPS.

The UT4 community has, what? 30 active players?

About UT4, it's simple. Devs stopped working on it 1 year ago, to focus on Fortnite.

Before that, commnity did an AMAZING job with mods/maps and what else, but the communication with Epic was a problem and it required a loooot of work because each update, you had to rework what you had done to get it working. Really, the immense amount of work made by the community was unbelievable. It's quite sad to see it lost.

2 years ago, we also had some nice iCTF or even TDM cups going. But Epic never advertised the game because it was too early, so with those 500 players, you can't expect much. Most of the people lost faith because they didnt expect the developpment would be so slow.

Also it's fair to say the community was ultra toxic and even more conservative than the quake community can be. Bad visibility, weapon show, death cams, weapons too strong, noobified movement, netcode, new team mode far from achieving unanimity, no server browser ect..... basically you can copypaste the topics for QC, but UT community was way more offensive.
I hated it at first, but I think their system with HUBS is something QC lacks, it was better to build a strong community. For me, the main problem with QC, is that players feel alone. Except pro 2v2 clans, and old mates, people are just alone. There are no teams/clans like in the past, where people gathered on the same server with its unique atmosphere. With HUBs, players retention was better.

Ironically, there is a huge hope for the future. And as you said, this is fortnite. It's in the same launcher, they have the devs, they may decide to start working on UT again someday. With the popularity of fortnite, only advertising UT would probably be enough as the game is already absolutely playable.

Have you noticed if UT is advertised in the Epic launcher at all?
If not, that would explain the lack of influx of new players.

And about the community/dev thing...
I just hate the impression is being promulgated over at Reddit that the failure of UT4 development is the fault of the community.
That the community is to blame for the complete stop in development because the community has failed to supply the devs with content.

This blatant lie is actually being spread over at Reddit by numerous users. (and people like myself that have pointed out that this is absolutely false have been banned there).

Like you said, the community was very good at coming up with artwork, new maps etc. Epic just abandoned all these hard working people, and let UT4 die. They really owe these people an apology.
The devs made a promise to make a game with the community. It wasn't the community that just abandoned the project.

Honestly, I'm following it from far at the moment, but from what I heard : Epic hasn't stated anything about UT4 since august. And that might be a good thing as that also means they might work on it again someday? And there is no point in adverstising it unless you start working on it again.

That's for example different from Paragon, which had way more players, and got shut down completely. You can still play UT4.

I never read UT reddit, but obviously you are right. If anything, there were too much content made by the community and Epic ignored it by lack of time (at best) or on purpose. I do remember they sent a list of tasks to the community, but those tasks were really not appealing. I mean, those people are working for free...

But communication was really bad from both sides. Epic probably didnt expect that the community would be so offensive, and basically willing to decide everything while being ultra conservative (hell I thought about it, and even item timers, spawn protection, we already had those discussions with 1000+ answers...). On the other hand, the community was really lost most of the time because devs were mysterious, and now it's even worse :)

Funny thing is when I tried UT4 pre-alpha(!) for the lulz about a year ago, it felt way more complete than QC is now. Not to mention that it ran SIGNIFICANTLY better.

Yeah UT4 is pretty polished, considering it was just left alone.

i played it on a dual core from 2008 with GTX 660 and it ran great on mid-high settings.
