Help me choose parts of new computer (21 comments)

The parts im keeping are:

GPU: MSI R7850 (still kicking ass)
PSU: Enermax 720W (very solid PSU)
HDD: Got a couple Seagate 7200's for data
Case: Define R4, nice silent and slick.

I need:

CPU
MOBO
RAM
SSD

The ones I had in mind:

CPU: Not sure. My monitor is Freesync. Is this relevant to CPU or GPU? If not then I gues I will stick to Intel unless you can prove me the new Rizen thing is much better, so far its not even better in DAW (music making) which is another hobby I have beside gaming. I do some video editing too. So let's say I get the Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7Ghz BOX (400€)

CPU FAN: (The big Noctua one that's the most silent not sure)

MOBO: I want the Fatal1ty one with the USB port that allows you to run the WMO at 500 or 1000hz without the annoying test mode drivers, but im not sure what one to buy because that one must be too old for the new CPU socket and m.2 SSD

RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury White DDR4 2133Mhz PC4-17000 32GB 2x16GB CL14 (297€)

SSD: Samsung 960 EVO m.2 1TB (446€)

Aaarrgh i need some help to know if everything will be compatible.

just tell me what motherboard will give me an USB port that has in-built overclocking so i dont need the stupid ass driver signature shit to overclock my WMO

Some of the ASrock Fatality motherboards offer a so called Fatality mouse port which lets you choose the usb polling rate yourself.

Just go to ASrocks home page and browse for motherboards with the LG1151 socket. There are many Fatality branded boards depending on what chipset you want :) GL

From what I understand the i7-8700K needs the 300 series chipset otherwise it won't work. That gives you these three options from ASrock:

Fatal1ty Z370 Professional Gaming i7

Fatal1ty Z370 Gaming K6

Fatal1ty Z370 Gaming-ITX/ac

Personally I wouldn't spend 100 extra eur for a cpu that offers no significant improvement over R7, but I'm not gonna shill here.

Just wanted to say that if you want a good & silent air cooler, get bequiet dark rock adv/pro - or a Scythe if you're ocd about pc sounds.
Noctuas are good when it comes to temps, but they produce this fucking annoying high pitched noise that causes headaches.

u definetely dont need to buy 8700k for 7850 gpu, coz it will be surely gpu bottleneck. Take ryzen 1600 or i5 8400 for video edit and casually gaming and gtx1060 as further upgrade

yeah but in the long term i would have a stronger CPU so I can buy a better GPU down the lane

7850 is enough anyway, i dont have VR because VR sucks until they can release a 4k occulus rift and my monitor is not 4k.

So you arent trolling lol, that gpu (amd 7850 right?) was low-middle range 5 years ago
Wait for new amd (today 570-580 are expensive, but still your budget is quite high, 50$ +/- arent a problem ), if you have freesync monitor.
I would save some $ from cpu (if you need i7 ht for your working sw - 8-12-16 core- buy a ryzen, check your software benchmarks, for gaming i5 6 cores is enough), maybe ram too (today ddr4 crazy expensive, 2x8gb config should be ok)

Im into video editing and music too so I need a strong CPU. For videogames, my current computer can play them on low-medium, and I have an old ass Q6660 with 8 GB of DDR2 and a 7200RPM HDD

With the rest of updates, the card should be enough until I need a powerful card capable of running 4K VR whenever they release it.

So my priority is actually CPU and ram for music. Im not sure if the Ryzen is worth it. I have not seen evidence of the Ryzen being able to load more VST plugins at once in FLStudio for instance.

Using the Ryzen myself, very happy. However, the I-8700K seems to be a proper beast and will likely last you years.

I'd go with Ryzen 1700 myself, though my 2500k is still strong and now seems like an especially bad time to be purchasing PC hardware. So, I've been proposing my upgrade for quite some time now.

If you must go with Intel, I'd recommend 8600k over 8700k any day of the week.
