with those settings i suggested he would still get decent awareness cause fov 100 isn't too low and is a good balance between awareness/mouse feeling, so his aim would increase a bit. Lower fov = better mouse feeling, less distortion of the screen so closer to 1:1 ratio related to mouse's movements and what you see on screen.
Cooller is even playing on fov 86-88, which is a little too low, cause basically 0 awereness and not perfect 1:1 ratio for mouse & screen. Never go lower than 90, except ofc if zooming.
Best fov are either 90 if you want to be an aim whore, or 100 if you want it more balanced. But never go lower than 90 and higher than 100.

also, 7.7cm/360° on 1800dpi is stupid, need higher dpi with this kind of sens. But anyway any sens below 10cm restricts you to use basically only rl (and some rails). Sux for the other weapons. And your playstyle with lg isn't polyvalent, you're stuck to only 1 playstyle which consists of tracking escaping opponents in straight line, whatever your position (even difficult ones). If the opponent starts dodging you're fucked up and need to switch to rl.
If he can adapt to 15cm his aim and playstyle would change for the better i guess.
Rapha is playing on 16.2cm, and isn't only a brain + rl & sneaky rails like Agent. He's more polyvalent (rapha i mean).

and one last thing, if he switched to 1000hz he would get a little bit more snappiness/responsiveness with his mouse especially if he plans to play on 240hz+ monitor(s) in the future. And finally, deathadder elite doesn't have any native dpi, unlike the 2013 that feels best on 1800dpi, so with the elite, he could lower his dpi a bit according to his sens (15cm), and also get better tracking cause different and improved sensor.

Batshit crazy stuff, the box says the dpi levels are 500, 1500, 2500 and 5000, the driver says that they're in fact 600, 1000, 2000 and 2500, but applying the scientific method (ruler and notalent calc) I discovered that it actually runs 450, 1100, 2400 and 3200. At least the grip is fine and the sensor isn't too shabby.

and you didn't try enough, didn't bother to adapt to "optimal settings", that's why you always come back to fov 130 etc. But any fov changes etc need TIME to get used to it at 100%. For some people it can be instant, for others it will take weeks if not months :)

going from fov 130 to fov 100, especially when you're a pro, is not that big of a deal, you can adapt pretty fast, put you have to put minimum effort into it
changing DA 2K13 to DA Elite is not like going for a completely different mouse, it's still the DA.
changing from 7.7cm to 15cm (or perhaps 10cm @ 1800dpi if he really can stand 15cm) is not a HUGE change, but when he would get used to it : he would be god-like.

I moved better, gained confidence, was able to put my mental focus back to aiming instead of trying to actively multitask things that did not feel good. Did I went from zero to hero? No, but overall my win rate was higher again and most of all, my gaming experience was much more satisfactory and rewarding.

I will do it instead of him; ye, I hit harder, move better, mouse input feels more natural, have much better general awareness.


You should realize by now that there's NO universal truth in these stuff, because settings are COMPLETELY subjective. It's a simple fact and it's your choice whether you accept it or not.

For instance, at 1920x1080 at 130FOV and 7.7cm / 360, you only need 928 DPI to be able to move the crosshair by "one pixel", which is a physically impossible movement to make anyway, but it may give you some theoretical improvement in smoothness. It will give you enough precision to hit any target if you move your mouse correctly, which is hard because of the sens, not the DPI.

Yes, it's a trade off. The way I read what you wrote made me think you were saying that 90 was some sort of ideal for reducing distortion.

I don't think the distortion matters much though because people on higher FOV don't need to make as big flicks, so they don't use the distorted part of the screen for aim, just for being aware of surroundings.

fov 90 is like a mini-zoom, so when you move your mouse by 1 or 2 pixel(s) you won't be able to move it by 1 or 2 pixels at fov 130 with the same distance travelled by your mouse on the mousepad than at fov 90, but rather 3 or 4 pixels because of the insane distortion and the fact that it kind of "lowers" your sens, you get more stable aim at the cost of more pixels travelled for the same tiny mouse mouvement than with fov 90

it's just simple logic, everything appears bigger at lower fov, so for tiny mouse's movements you get optimal precision

combine low fov + dot as crosshair + high sens and you get maximum precision especially on mini-flicks and pixel shots :)

You should choose your settings so that the sorts of movements you find easiest to do accurately with your hand line up with the sorts of view angle changes you have to make the most in your play style.

There is zero reason to optimize for these less than 0.1 degree angle changes in a game like Quake. You're not planted perfectly still aiming at a tiny target a mile away without zoom.

Talking about rectilinear projection: was it ever tried in fps games to use fisheye distortion? Although it will curve the image closer to the corners it will make the center action much closer (zoomed in) while still having awareness of the surrounding.

The fisheye projection is very distorted. A few have been tried. I think the Panini at about 170 degrees looks best, which keeps vertical and radial lines straight with a slight distortion in the horizontal. Here's a cool video showing some of them in Q1.

But yeah, first gen MXs with the Avago ADNS-A2020 <33 are built to last. Best sensor feel to this day for me and I had a LOT to compare it to. 8 bit data path, so the raising of the polling rate raises perfect control speed drastically - like you have a completely different mouse in you hands;

125Hz -> 1 m/s
500/1000Hz -> 3,91 m/s

But 125Hz also worked just fine for me with this, which is kinda odd but nevertheless true.

Agents problem has always been aim , now he uses prediction and skills to do the aiming for him , which most pros do anyways, but at one point or another you just need a strong consistent aim.

Lowering his sens would help alot with this , from 7.7 to 15 cm im sure would help his aim.

However if this "takes him out of the game" because he feels uncomfortable, then this would make him a worse player overall .

But this game requires less aim then QL , but a higher sensitivity.

Tox have been struggling some , as he used 35cm 360 for QL duel, 28?~cm 360 ctf QL . But now last time i checked(lols) he is at 20cm\360 for the quicker QC rocket heavy game. Which is a really high sens when using an icemat.

I want pitch adjustment available in QC , so i can more comfortably use lower sens in QC , like i did in QL .

QC has smaller targets for the most part. QL hit-boxes are about the size of scalebearer or visor.
Looking at scoreboards, LG accuracy has gone down quite a bit, from 40 being a good percentage to 30 being good.

But I agree that 20cm is pretty high. Even on my cloth pad I can't play with that high of a sens.

Well it depends on your situation and yourmouseskates.

I personally find stock zowie skates to be super slippery on icemat, while the hyperglidez feels better, also just as tox said, when you put on new skates it is actually too little friction and after some time you hit a nice sweet spot. He used to swap his hyperglidez 1 month before tournament to get that sweet spot.

Also with fast action like sacrifice you can have higher sensitivity , because it is not as nervewracking, you can rely some on your team , not just yourself, which means steadier hand. Also with high sens or accel it can often be beneficial to move your mouse alot so you are always "in tune" with the sensitivity, with duel it can be a slower pace and hardly any movement. When you have camped for 2 minutes, and enemy jumps around a corner, if you got high sensitivity and slippery mat, well you might miss with 180 degrees, lol.

In QC the rockets are stronger then QL, RL and Rail are dominent, rail beeing the aim weapon, but you use it mostly for set up and zoom shots, but rail has been toxs problem(when i say problem, i mean still better then most, but not up to his own standards), upped his sens not as consistent rail.So he was actually considering a mouse with dpi thumb button just for this, sounds silly, but perhaps not .

As for shaft in QC, this is hardly ever used on smaller and fast champions, and you can rely on RL as your main tactic, with the large champions, aim has never been this easy . Shaft is mostly used for large champions and predictable movement, running towards,from,jumppads etc.

I personally find tracking to be superior on icemat, but to be consistent i want 30cm\360 with icemat,but with cloth i can feel very consistent with 25 or less. Consistency must be based upon "always ready for aim,even fairly cold and nervous" , not "i have just shot 10 000 bots, it felt consistent"

To me cloth is what i want to use, but the small movement to larger movement, just does not feel linear to me, it always feels muddy at small adjusments, and then glidy for large movements.

I don't think that lowering fov automatically gives a better mouse feeling nor that lowering sensitivity automatically gives increased aim performance after getting used to it. It's all about finding a good mixture of the two that benefit how you most comfortably play. Like a wrist-movement only guy would probably not benefit from lower fov or lower sensitivity. As soon as you find a comfortable setup it's all about practice so you get recurring scenarios imprinted in muscle memory/experience (utilizing knowledge of angles on the map, common dodge-pattern, use strafing-aiming when dodging is not needed and such). After that point there isn’t really anything more to gain. You have hit your personal ceiling. No matter how much you play you do don't really increase your own reaction time enough to go to the top level of aiming. These few people with unfathomable tracking capabilities simply just have better reflexes than 99,9% of the player base.

last time i played QL against those same people, i hit ~40%

against serious i used to get beaten 10:0 (he even did 20:0 pre-steam version once), and scores were always 10:2 10:3 at max. Nowadays it's almost always 10:7 10:8 even some 10:9 and.... I can even win from time to time :)

You are stating these ideas like they are facts, which is weird. It's something you believe, and what I described is what I believe. The idea that you could get to 100% LG iif you practice long enough, as you describe in the comment above, is to me super delusional. No matter how good you become I don't see how anyone could reduce their reaction time to the necessary levels for hitting every LG cell. It's not a matter of practice but a matter of what your body physical is capable of. Just like a sprinter never could reach 100 km/h with 500 years of practice in a universe with no ageing/muscle deterioration. The runner will hit his personal ceiling pretty soon (compared to the 500 years) and from there on, he won't improve because he is at maximum physical capacity.

Why force him to play duel? It has too much factors that fair combat skills oriented player wont find fun. I would suggest Heartless to focus on sacrfice instead. That way he might find his unique role in team being heavy damage dealer,aimwhore controling some defined zone on the map or smth that can make his aim only skills usefull for team. With the right approach and ammount of practice only autist can put into it, he might become top player in his position and find the place under the sun to shine at and prove all those who doubt him wrong :)
