It's not too hard to find Q3 OSP duels in EU.

I can only speak for NA, so I must be missing out

yeah I don't really enjoy duel that much anymore as I play sporadically and I have more fun when there are several players involved in the game.

if you all was'nt aload of retards, you could have got it to work by loading it in the mod menu in the bottom corner of Q4 main menu

me recoding 60% of the SDK is to complex for you to understand, which means you need the DLL's, and all the other pk4's todo with me recoding 60% of the SDK and cleaning up all the entity def files and adding a shit load of new cvars and settings

MP is more like quake 3, except can't strafe around corners because the mouse is'nt server side

all the code for SP/MP, windows and linux are all unified into a single SDK, all wrapped in compiler macro's, which is 1 function that is different on windows and linux, if you ASCII compare every file you will find it in the 4 SDK's you need normally

and dedicated/listen servers only running whats needed, along with clients, and all new snapshots with all the bugs and glitches fixed and able to go upto 128 players

no point just tweaking a few lines and calling it a mod, the only reason everything in Q43A was beyond the technical possibilities of quake 4 on release, was because the game .dll was coded by the worlds shittest coders who don't put 1 thought into any function and how it will operate and what led to that function being used in the first place

First, do not buy any. The Steam releases are useless. Download releases that have all the basics included, such as www.nquake.com

Then it depends on where you are located. Your profile says London. In Europe all Quakes are playable, so pick your poison.

None is really alive though, anywhere, but you can either find people in public servers (Q2, Q3) or you can arrange matches (QW and Q4 using IRC/Discord/Facebook groups).

quakeworld (qw) is very fun and worth it, many game modes are played, and there isn't really a big focus on a particular mode (huge map pools on all modes, from 4vs4 to duel to race and dmm4), and there are players of all skill levels playing. One thing I love about the game is that the whole game (modifications of modern clients, new updated server code and mods) and its community adapted to having a low concurrent player count: you can communicate to players from different servers, you can communicate to the qw discord from the game, and from qw discord to game servers, so if you hop on an empty server you can broadcast a message everywhere and get a game going relatively fast. Until last year I reckon there was quite some 4vs4 activity, mixes going every week. I haven't followed the scene for 2 years, but from what I see now, it looks like many players left. Still, the game is very nice, the most played modes are duel, 2vs2, 4vs4 and dmm4 (all weapons at spawn, all armour, for designated maps), and race, of course.

I don't know if your original post is still relevant but if you have time to kill and are willing to approach people to have some games going, I think you will have fun. You just have to not hesitate to talk on the discord to get games going.

If you do not know what client to pick, or how to setup your files, there is a full installation package on nquake.com, which has ezquake as client, some hi res (if you want) textures, models and of course, many hud and configs to pick or create your own from. You only need the pak0 from the original game because it is still behind a copyright/paywall. if you don't have it you will not have all the maps. (you can still play though and anyway many play custom maps like ztn3 aero bravado etc..). Then hop in discord.quake.world if you want

Why are oldschool soundtracks so god damn good, they're unrefined, raw and real. Got a certain sense of grimeyness you'll never get from ost's anymore because of big budgets, for some reason I prefer these kinds of ost's over anything big budget.
