No such thing as a perfect game. Lot's of interesting titles though which were amazing to play.

I tried to make it a little more clear but I mean what do you think was the perfect match? Rather than video game.

I love the old Toxjq Q4 VODS playing duel on lan. Somehow they are the first ones to pop into my mind. Those vids got me into Quake, because I never played before Tox's vids got me into it. I was so extremely impressed by his imposing gamestyle and general skill, he felt so calculated and controlled in everything he did and slaughtered his opponents.

Also the way he got commentated and the sums of money going around at that time made it feel more spectacular on its own. An epitome of aFPS e-sport.

I wanted to get on that level of play, to play such an intense and dynamic game to maybe once come close to that amount of individual skill. It inspired me, and years later I'm still playing Quake and trying to get better.

And be honest, beeing in a nerd-focus 24/7 @ a $$$$$$ tournament and typing "It's quiet in the studio" midgame while being 10 frags or infront of Fatal1ty just showed the greatness of his prime.

So yeah I guess those man ;)

Edit: I hope id-software took some notes of peak Quake succes and what drove it to such heights and try to bring it back in QC in some way and not undervalue it. Their mindset should be shifted more towards making it an aesthetically pleasing spectator game and allow it to be efficiently commentated to give it an appeal to a larger crowd outside and inside Quake. I just hope they pick the right gamemodes because Quake players love playing Quake but they equally love watching it.

The way I hear some people here talk about QC's current state and the objective input they give about it, a lot of it could really improve- or add to the game in a positive way, for everybody, not only for the veterans. I hope Noctis or other people involved @ id here are not too jaded already to stop them reading some comments and according ideas, because not everybody is shitposting or trolling 24/7, we all love Quake and want everybody to enjoy it!

Yeah in retrospective Quake 4 looks good. I think it lacked polish on launch and it felt like a Quake 3 that required more expensive hardware.

I was actually just watching this match last week.

Imagine this was QC with integrated matchmaking, good netcode and fps, and all new bells and whistles that are e-sportsy of today. People here on ESR would spray cum everywhere.

I can think of at least 2 people that would not spray.

q3a ... maps more or less sucked ass, no bunny hopping, no double jumping no air control, basically a call of duty variation ...

q1 was really good, had bunny hopping, aircontrol, but the game is a bit too campy, dm6 camping ra for example, many weapons ingame could be removed like axe, nailgun and super nailgun ... q1 is still a great game in multiplayer however, and sp wise the best game by far ...

q2 had q2dm1, which was a really great map, it had the railgun and double jumping, bunny hopping ... twas just really neat game, you could even drop your weapon to someone else which is a nice tp element imho. ... rl might have been a bit slow, on the other hand you need more prediction, basically killed all qwers in q3a because I had more predicting skills with the rl than them ...

ql finally added some features from the old quakes, bunny hopping, double jumping for example ... so movement wise a nice game, and there were many nice maps added also ... problem is it is just a mod of q3a and basically an old game not so many people are eager to play ...

qc ... well its fresh, its new, it has great graphics and sounds ... it still has all the quake feeling to it, all the nice features, fast movement, bunny hopping, aircontrol (depending on char) ...
it is basically the real sucessor of q3, because q4 and ql basically were just q3 mods that came too late and never really took of... its the new quake in a modern engine with new game play elements ... back in da day q1 was just great, so many novelties, q2 was a good successor and then came q3a and destroyed everything ... and then only mods of q3a that just reminded too much of an old game ... now there is real successor and something to look forward too

If the comeback game is the one i'm thinking of, Czm didn't manage to come back, Cooller still won; great match tough, could have been even better with a few differences.

eswc 2005 czm fucked up a rj to YA and lost, in CPL 2006 he made the comeback.

Thank god we have QC now. Messing up a particular movement at a particularly crucial moment should be a thing of the past. Succeeding or failing based solely on one's skill and execution is such an archaic concept that should be left back in 1999.

Just seen it. Nice match, he made it. What a curse it must have felt for Cooller. I think it's the main reason he lost, he made some huge gambles/mistakes. That's not an excuse tho, being able to control emotions is a huge part of being a dueler.

Ye, it is a great match. Was also the first or one of the first LAN Tournaments using cpma/vq3 which explains the funny b2r fails.

Absolutely. Looking back, so many of those matches looked done at 10 minutes, only to have a different winner at 15.

And you could play the long con, it completely changed the strats.

Not to mention the non stackable ammos, but that's an issue that could be talked forever.

the next time they met czm did the same thing but won the map.

My all-time favorite, if you have the time to watch it over a few days the ending is completely worth it, just what happens, makes it my favorite match to watch.
