GiffGaff run on the back of o2, which is cool, you lack a whole lot of shit but if it's just data you're after then you can run with them, currently you can 10gb for £20pm with o2 directly, there's no throttling of the speed, you get capped when you hit 20gb of data, I'm a nice guy and I could probably get you that for £15-£17pm.

BT did nothing to warrant the shitness of o2, they bought the company and that is it. They left it as is, they weren't interested in investing in the infrastructure. Once telefonica bought o2, they started spending £1 million a day on getting the infrastructure up to where it is today.

giffgaff's "unlimited" data just means they won't throttle your allowance of 6gb throughout peak and off peak hours, so you'll get maximum speed (depending on your signal strength.) for as long as you have data.

Now regarding the signal o2's 2G/3G/4G signal now runs on a baseband of 800mhz which is pretty much designed for penetration of buildings. Unlike other networks who have bought 1000mhz / 1200 mhz which is for maximum speeds but higher latency and all the other shit associated to it. So you will honestly not get a better coverage other than o2/giffgaff and possibly 3.

There is no unlimited data, no network in the UK offers it anymore unless you're on one of the many old contracts that officially have it, there are fair usage policies applied to everything, even your unlimited texts and calls. It's more strict on data however.

giffgaff are only cheap because they have no physical overheads, it's all done online, there's no face to face option if you were to ever have any issues, so obviously their profit margins are a lot better than your stock standard brick and mortar businesses.

I do agree with the unlimited data part though, but there is no infrastructure on the planet big enough to keep up a constant unlimited data policy, imagine you have 3 million customers and 1 million of them are constantly streaming video/audio it'll fuck up the experience for everyone else, that's why 3 stopped their all you can eat data which was truly unlimited because people were running linux on a mini laptop which allowed the to tether their connection without any restrictions or having to pay for tethering.

t-mobile is unlimited for £12.50, i download doom 4 at 80GB at a constant 700kbs for 10 hours straight, and that was day 1 of the month

t-mobile will throttle you from 4pm -> midnight, so you can scam them, but you download speed drops during lunch hours from around 11am -> 1pm

giffgaff is unlimited, i will find out what they are saying when i hit the 6GB fairuse limit
