I can imagine them being too lazy to code a seperate graphical effect and instead changing QL's impactsparks back into Q3's gibs.
Even I suggested something like that, because since they had trouble with the rating in countries like germany, I once suggested to sneak in a gibs-similar effect via cg_impactsparkscolor 0xrrggbbaa, because:
- sparks =/= blood, neither in the console vocabulary nor geometric appearance.
- like it is now, the default yellow wouldn't look bloody to the rating-noob who tests the violence of the game.
- impactsparks already have a lot of cvars to adjust stuff like number, velocity, size and time for frags/hits.
- players could pick whatever non-red color they prefer.

So did i.

I would be satisfied with colorable impactsparks. I don't even need gibs effect. At least not the same effect as in quake3. Too distracting.

For people that played the previous Quake titles it is a pretty intuitive idea, I assume a lot of experienced players had the same idea and some of them suggested it aswell.

Interesting point:
Most likely more people would prefer colored sparks over gibs, because the gibs really were so distracting that most turned them off anyway.
But I think the request for gibs is driven by nostalgia and the demand that QL doesn't look so damn fluffy anymore.

Bethesda declined the request from ZeniMax to add them into QL because of the rating.

Nope, that's not what I said.

It has neither been approved nor declined. There are just still concerns over the ratings issues which have resulted in it remaining in limbo all this time. The development team did the work nearly a year ago. It is fully functional supporting both gibs and sparks, as a steam dlc item, but it has legal and approval hurdles before it can see the light of day.

pls get it approved.

Keeping T rating for a game where average player is his late twenties seems like a top priority. Not that I care about gibs, its just funny to me

Yes, that what you have said is true but looking at it from their point of view things are a bit different. Actually, not much but they need new costumers, ie gamers, and they don't want to be held back, ignored or even banned because of that rating (Germany springs to mind). New costumers tend to be treated more favorably than the existing ones, that's how sales mostly works anyway. Well at least that's what I think.

So what about colored impactsparks?
We won't tell anybody and we promise to use blue instead of red, hehehehehe.

new doom is apparently 100% uncut in germany. 18+ though

my plan is finish my degree till 30.9. buy a doom PC as a reward for finishing degree after almoast 10years, play DOOM extensively in a locked room, create a true dm snap map with levelupmygame, own just about anybody, loose a job, get hired at id, release blood dlc.
