I don't even know why people play QL. I saw the lightning gun on YouTube and was in love with it before I even started playing, and that love saw me through the shit all the beginners have to go through.

Most people don't love the LG like I do, so that's probably why they quit the game, because there is not much else in this game to love or to be obsessed with or to be addicted to.

Midairs and LG is all that matters.

Everything passes. Especially after steam release it's like "no ranks, no people, no friends, screwy master server" and those are the only things pretty much keeping QL from certain decline.... All before a steam sale etc

The pros in the NA scene. They do absolutely nothing to help the scene. They don't/won't associate with the community. They only talk to each other. They aren't part of the community at all.

I really don't understand at this point why we don't go back to q3.
Ql isn't being developed anymore so essentially it's a dead game.
It also has nothing to offer over q3. In fact it has far less if we consider mods which are free.

Responding to a raythenoob post. But in all seriousness, I thought I was the only one who noticed how insufferable the "pro" North American community was. Back when the game was standalone, it would be the same 7 guys and their fanboys (I'm sure you can think of their names right away) spawning servers and only playing with each other. Oh yeah, and they would only do this 10 days before qcon. The rest of the year they would contribute absolutely nothing to the game and would not play at all. At least in Europe, it is not rare to see cooller or other pros hop on servers and play random noobs.

America needs a hero. Zorakwar saves us!

Community is a major issue.

The game is still split in ca, tdm, duel, ffa/freeze, ctf players.

There is nothing that binds them alltogether.

Also the players have too many different opinions in terms of ql/q3 etc.

Ql is great, Q3 is great too, none of those games is really bad.

People need to get connected to each other somehow.

I pretty much only played FFA and then loadouts came, I hardly touched the game for a year because of loadouts. I haven't really got back into QL since then, most of the time I'd rather play something else tbh.

The problem now is that the only FFA servers I see populated are Russian or German 16 player servers. 16 player FFA is just chaos, I don't enjoy it. Russian and German servers don't feel that great for me, I haven't seen a populated Scandinavian FFA server in a long time :/

What am I playing? CSGO, Civ 5, Cities Skylines, Day of Defeat, Supreme Commander is what I've played lately.

It has nothing to do with people getting tired of the game.

It has to do with loadouts, steam and all the other nonsense, how many pages do you want? Every time something is done like change the forums, that makes people have to adapt to it and get used to it again. The only thing they had to do was leave it as it was.

Also you guys who were defending all the changes every step of the way up to the loadouts etc., I hope you can sleep at night because you played a major part in this shit and are partly to blame for the situation getting out of control. I'm not sure how bad it has to get before some of you guys finally quit and say enough.

qlranks is gone so there's no way to compare your performance with anyone. I was a terrible player so it's hardly anything to do with ego, but it still meant something and was a key reason why someone would come back. What's more stupid, playing just to beat some random guy of any skill level somewhere or playing to see if you yourself are improving or deproving or about the same.

Loadouts were never a significant issue. The only mode even affected by loadouts was FFA, and it was the only mode that actually grew in popularity after the steam/loadout update. The 10 people who played tdm/ctf in NA before loadouts just kept playing those modes without loadouts, so there was no loss there. Now that ffa loadouts are gone, the ffa community has shrunk again. We traded several 16 player ffa loadout spamfests for basically one active 24-32 player classic mg spamfest at any given time.

All complete lies. I have a huge amount of time played, around two months, and most in FFA. In my estimation loadouts reduced FFA population by about 90%, most long-term players quit playing FFA for good because of it. I don't know how you're getting what you're saying, but I suggest in future you don't say things on the internet that you're not sure of (to put it nicely) because it can be very harmful.

I've seen the internal stats from sponge/sync as did several other people in the QL 'focus group'. Quake Live had a big bump in player count when it first became available on steam, but most of that died off quick (I'm sure the massive server lag on day one didn't help). The only mode that had a lasting uptick in the number of daily players was FFA, which was up something like 50 percent months after the steam/loadout release. Yes the constant rocket and sg spam was extremely annoying.

I disagree, the steam release bump lasted a lot longer for FFA mode. Pretty much no casual is going to hang around playing duel, they'll get slaughtered a few times and never come back. You definitely can't say that the loadouts were the cause for it, many longtime players quit because of it. The loadouts were a disaster, nobody liked them.

The attitude of id and their apologists this whole time is that if you have a complaint then there isn't something wrong with the game, there's something wrong with you. So if you don't like the loadouts, it's because you're afraid of change, because you're egomaniacal and this will disadvantage you, and all kinds of ridiculous reasons thought up about how the game is right and the player opinions are invalid and incorrect. It's like the inverse of "the customer is always right". It's no surprise that people got sick of the bullcrap eventually and left.

People who give up on QL are people who weren't very invested to begin with. With all of the changes that happened over the years, steam, loadouts etc - none of this effected MY experience of quake. Which is mainly TDM, CA and a little CTF. It was funny watching all the shit going down in forums, but really I was wondering what the fuss was about.

The netcode is just terrible unless everyone has perfect connections and no steps are taken to get it fixed. It makes the game go from something I could play casually to something I don't want to play anymore.

I prefer duel over CA, sadly you usually play 1-2 duels (10-20 minutes), but for those you wait like 20-30 minutes, because barely anyone plays duel. Even after the steam release I constantly play the same ~20 people.

It doesnt really make me quit quake, but it makes me take it less serious, because I dont see a need to improve. Theres nobody to play anyway.

Put in some effort to actually aim better if that is your supposed weakness, you could also start adopting another mindset as your whine/rage makes absolutely no sense at times.

If your aim is that bad then people might as well aim whore you, though. If someone knows they're going to smash you in every LG fight then there's nothing wrong with abusing that.

Work on aiming better, but also look at your positioning. My LG aim is pretty bad, but I can hit good LG just by being in the right place. You might need to put yourself in more situations where it's easier to aim.

I used to blame my aim on being bad, but over time I realised there was a lot more to it than that. I made it so easy for people to hit me and rush me down, and blamed people for being aimwhores when really they were just taking advantage of situations I gave them. There are still lots of people who successfully rush me down based on aim, but I make them work for it now and eat some +back rockets.

Wrong, u have to Put urself into Situation where its really hard to aim and practise These. Thats how u get good dodge too.

Aiming your way out of bad situations is a bonus, though. Being able to BS rail your way out of a stupid position is almost worthless if you can't take a good position and hit consistently with the right guns.

Doom4 will suck. Everyone will wait in QL until q5 comes out. The entire community will ditch QL and lots of people will come back. This only lasts a short while. Nobody really likes Q5. People call to go back to QL but everyone says it's to hard to setup compared to Q5 and no one plays it. Quake dies again. Afterwards they finally release DLC for Rage.

Black Mesa has alright multiplayer, not as fast as HLDM though. If doom 4 can be fast enough and lets skilled players dominate like they can in quake then its enough for me.

I quit quake about 3.5 years ago. Got bored of the game, had been playing it for far too long since quake 3 and wanted to focus upon real life to be honest.
