Totally stoked tbh, but the gameplay looks so bad compared to what I've experienced with parts 1-3. I just read the synopsises from those review sites and they are generally favourable... so maybe it'll be better than in GZ.

I guess you could call me a fan of this series, I played 1 when it was new, and the 2 demo with ZOE, beat 2 couple years later, then i played the originals on MSX. then 3 and 4...

Go on, no spoilers if possible ;) I've been watching uknighted's stream and it looks fun. One streamer seems to know the story of all the games (PSP ones also) through and through and it seems that there are lots of references to Peace Walker and Snake Eater.

I've played 1,2 and 3 and checked the story of 4th but only 1st of them really stood out for me.

are you familiar with the stories from the original MSX metal gears? because this game is supposed to tie the whole series together, but all it really does is COMPLETELY FUCK THE PLOTS OF MSX METAL GEAR 1 AND 2. I kinda of attribute this to mgs2's story, from what i hear kojima wanted it to be his last MG game (metal gear solid 2 that is, not 5) so just made up abunch of weird shit to fuck with the player...

now, this game is supposed to be set in the 1980s, but the tech you see it in rivals that of todays world, mg1 and 2, when they were released were set a few years later but none of the tech was as super over the top as this shit is. Mgs3 was kind of the sameway too with that shit. Really breaks the immersion for me. the only thing 80s about this shit is like the afghan war and a sony walkman on your belt.

Now on to the gameplay, this game just suffers from the problems all open world games have, which is mostly just fedex bullshit, i have 17% completion and literally all it's been is just "go retrieve this person/item" with like 1 or 2 missions blowing up some stuff for seasoning. Really boring shit. there's health regen, enough said there. infinite sprint or whatever. I really wished they expanded more on the survival elements from mgs3, as this would've best suited it i think. We live in 2015 however so.. The reflex mode is stupid ass red dead redemption bullshit. Remember in mgs2 or 3 if someone saw you, you had a few moments to put them down or stop them from alerting anyone (shooting their radio, knocking them out mid radio call etc)? say bye to that, the only way to do that now is through reflex mode. Like i said, it's a third person shooter with like kilometers of sprinting, and crawling and collecting mundane shit. There isn't really much interaction with the world or anything, you don't see any civilian life or how they have to live during the middle of a fucking war etc etc.... just a big budget one last cash grab

This series had a lot of promise, but like anything successful (quake, doom heh) it's just going to get milked and dried sooner or later.

Wasn't the idea that at first when you're "building the base" you have to do those mundane shitmissions yourself and later you'll dispatch your men for them?

Does the 17% correlate with the story progression or it's how many missions you've done overall (side-quests included)?

the 17% is everything you've done i assume, main and side, collection, etc. No all those mundane shitmissions i'm referring to are ACTUAL STORY MISSIONS.


as far as metal gear models go, and plot goes, everything just gets way too fucked and retconned 3 and onwards, 4 wasn't so bad but it was just so many fuckin cop outs to explain all the weird shit that happened during 2 (slight spoiler: they all just blame it on nano machines and/or patriots) i think it was a joke game plot wise after all though, with some elements a homage to MG1, much like how MGS1 is mostly a remake/homage to MG2. if you never played the original MSX metal gears i highly suggest it, skip the inclusions on metal gear re-releases and just emulate the originals on MSX. if you want to know more regarding playing those PM me.

MGS1 just feels like he REALLY did go for it, then just caved afterwards. 3 is set during the 60s and they show blueprints for metal gear REX in it lmao.... none of these "prequel" games ever mention major characters like gray fox or petrovich etc. although i'm not finished with MGS5 i can't say for sure 100%, but it'll most likely be stupid shit.

just look up metal gear TX-55 then compare it to the metal gear in phantom pain or even mgs3 for fucks sake and you'll see why the whole thing just gets retarded. MGS1 had such an amazing story and it just tanked way afterwards,

gameplay mechanics are kinda slpinter cell-ish but game itself is rather asscreed-like hard, if someoene counts on improvements comparing to GZ, you can save yourself those 50 bucks for going out to mcdonald or something

ps did you get to the child soldier africa mission? that one was just straight fucking stupid. You tell the kids to wait but they just bolt out right infronnt of enemies. Ive tried to solo the whole game, no wolf dog or dumb ass horse shit, and it all just kills it.

I clocked out at around 10 hours in and was still in afghanistan, but I already saw where is this going, then I looked up some walkthrough out of curiousity to see how the game develops further, and now I have it deleted from my ps4, propably going to trade it for this recent godzilla game, or something like that

So I just beat the main story and all I can say is fucking WOW...

there's a reason this game is called phantom pain and it's more than just the fact he's a nullo...

the game itsself is missing an arm...

touching on the FOB mode, i kind of quite like this concept, it's 1V1 only, always my preference... with looting too.. apparently FOB layouts were going to be randomly generated or have customization but that was cut. apparently theres been reports of cheater but i haven't encountered any, i was in the top 500 players at launch and i'm still in the top 1000, haven't grinded much or anythign either. It can be quite fun, and especially feel rewarding sneaking past the other player and infiltrating the HQ. could use some balancing maybe though.

You can't support/invade people on your friends list however or see ping/location. stupid shit

I liked the game. It is fun to play. The story could be better, but I imagine some of that is because I've only played 1/3/revengence.
