I can't wait to be disappointed. The suspense is killing me

It's weird how all this has changed. During the nineties each doom/quake release has been looked forward to with the highest anticipation. And now it's "can't wait to be disappointed".

Well I was excited for doom 3 and it didn't live up to my expectations, then q4 continued that same path. Things seem to have changed to much at Id that I don't hope for anything any more. The only thing i still have hope is QL, FML

Yeah they probably dropped the ball with d3. That's when they tried to reaffirm their position as technology leader in a meanwhile highly competitive business while very much neglecting a feature that provided their games with durable popularity: multiplayer. Too bad they didn't even try to reinvent themselves at some point.

Back then I wondered if much of this could be attributed to Carmack perpetually trying to live up to his iconic status. But then it's apparently been him who was the first to admit defeat, in a way, when falling back to the q3 engine.

Bethesda is making it. It can't be very bad. Nothing epic or innovative, but a decent game it will be.

I think so. What if they had not been bought and tons of employees left in that case too? The fact they were bought isn't the issue. It's just another case like the Ship of Theseus.

No big company would have missed the opportunity to grab hold of the "id" historical name and franchises and let it die.

looks like they switched to crysis engine, i saw very unoriginal doom e3 trailer. even quake 2 looks better artwork-wise. multiplayer looks doa, nothing new, only if crysis 3 had large mp community which it doesnt, i expect same will be for new doom. id has lost connection with modding community since doom 3, which looks like that alone will keep it less relevant, they jiggle to much trying to appeal to cod audience and in the end the result is a mish mash of obvious gameplay mechanics that results in an average copycat game, kinda like unreal games in the nineties, although good but always only second or third best. and map maker editor is obviously a copy of halo 3, which is still not that much popular imo. and the thing that they miss the most is leveling mechanics from cod games. also monsters afar from a few bosses like mancubus look very bland and rage-like.

Noticed that about the enemies from the E3 videos. I mean, all previous Dooms, it was so easy to distinguish different enemies from eachother. Now, besides the "bosses", they all appear to be generic, mini Hell Knights. Even the Hell Knights really didn't stand out that much to me.

That looks like the games weakest point. But even then, its too much like Crysis to feel new. It doesn't feel like a classic Doom game.

I think they keep using Doom name for better sales. Doom 3 looked more like Quake 2 sequel with replaced monsters and guns, even Doom 1 didn't look as futuristic.

There's a multilayer cam video on YouTube of the people at qcon playing the game. Doesn't look very fast paced to me but could he fun I just think it'd be really hard to run a game that looks as good incredibly fast

a guy who played mp from a german magazine said yesterday, it is fast but not "pc fast" like the orginial. he speculates that the speed must be consens between pc and console. you cant choose superspeed with a gamepad for controlling.

They obviously dont know what FAST really is , the speed of doom looks to be almost the same as quake3 , without bunnyhops .

But game does look good, and can be fun, they just got to add them tweaks such as a faster pace . Adding bunnyhoping would be great also , but it dont have to be as big of a speedboost as it is with quake 3/ql . They have to start compromising , and i cant really see any compromises at all in there.

maybe the terrible noobs playing weren't strafe jumping or using any mechanics so its hard to tell. imagine a guy who just played quake for the 1st time never having played quake before would look very similar to that video

Quakecon tournament participants did have a 6 min trying of the game. Was playin in the same team as zoto but surprisingly didnt lose. Anyways, no circle or strafejumpin as far as i cud tell, jus some odd double jump. Had a very shitty experience cuz sens seemed to be at 1 cm /360 and accel on infinity and beyond

Tried to recover shadows/highlights but there was just no information to work with, made it darker by using curves, made it 1% better :P.Did minimal straightening.

Also added a 125% speedup edit . Which makes some guns etc just too fast .

Successfull esport games by id (Quakes) were developed with competitive multiplayer in mind. Games like Doom 3 or Rage didn't quite make a splash.

i think his idea is right. game shouldn't be made catering to esports. esports should rise out of it and if it does with high demand, id should replace quake at quakecon. im pretty sure no game that's on a regular circuit today was ever an idea that originated as an esports game. In fact, most games that have come out as wanting to be esporty, have pretty much failed, even with backing behind them from the devs and we've seen quite a bit of it in arena-based fps games (shitmania, all these other shitter quake/cpma clones played by a grand total of 20 people, because they fail to be fun, they're fun for the handful of experienced players who know the scope of the game and who'll enjoy them).

but I think in 2015, more can be done to push a game over the edge to make it more esporty... adding features that allow you to easily access the competitive side of the game without it feeling forced compulsory whilst still having in-game transitions, or tradable items to bring in a larger audience

i agree actually, if the game risses from the communtiy in thirst for esport, then it will last longer and it will probably have a wider succes.

But that doesnt mean id shouldnt add some spec feature at games release .

Tere was an official "matsj" on te stage , were tey ad placed tickets under random cairs, and te guys wo appen to ave a ticket under teyr cair, got to play.

Would be more awesome if tey actually used top quake players, ten recorded everyting, and made a frag video out of it . Im no marketing person , but tat would seem like a win scenario .

I didn't like the graphics. All the previous Doom (and Quake) games were the best looking FPS games of their respective eras, but this looks mediocre compared to what's out there now (and to what will be when this is released in 2020 after all the delays).

its coming out next spring... lol and its pretty good looking and accurate depiction of what a modern doom would be like. given that theyve been working on this for just over 2+ yrs, theyve made significant strides since the fallout of the older project
