It is with heavy heart, we are sad to find that one of our very regular and beloved north-american quakers,

Sam "EVOL" Meacham has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to friends and family.

Rest In Peace EVOL

Possibly one of the better FFA/CA players i've encountered most of the time. always had a chill attitude, use to make youtube videos of himself playing quake (hence why i got somewhat better in duel.) And he always had a good time. had a really awesome Quake tattoo. Thank you for the frags and you kicking everybody's ass (including communist316) Evol you will be greatly missed.

I guess I can confirm this from fb posts and whatnot.

2 days ago messages were posted to his wall by his wife that states he has passed. I don't know any further information yet.

It was very sudden. As someone who attended his last 2 LAN parties and talked to him on a somewhat regular basis (both have lives outside of Quake that prevented us from spending more time with it) I'm still flabbergasted and unsure about what to think. I'm waiting and hoping for answers.

EVOL was a great guy. He absolutely loved Quake. Was going to hold his 3rd west coast Quake lan party on June 5th.

I wasn't friends with him nor did I know him really well but he was a very nice guy from the games I've played with him and obviously had a great passion and love for this game and it's community and will be sadly missed. My thoughts a prayers go out to his friends and family.

My condolences.

As stated by other users, it would be interesting, if there are some sources to link to, may it be facebook or other sources. Maybe the relatives can also find a way in here. But maybe that is asked too much, since when someone passes away, relatives are usually not in the mood to speak out, especially to the public (as we are mostly anonymous somehow). Let's respect his privacy and the one of his family and friends. If they choose to come to us, we should welcome them.

I wonder if we could establish something on this site and/or ESR wiki where we not only praise the top players but also those who did sufficient for the community to esteem them with all respect.

I agree with this. Would be a nice little fan run tournament with a good cause. I'd bet you could even convince some non Quakers attending to play and donate.

I can't believe this guy is gone. Really a nice player and always doing lots for the community. I find I am not playing much these days anymore, but I am upset to hear that if I do come back that I will no longer be seeing Evol login. Too young. Too much going on. This one effected me more than I realized and I doubt if he'd even consider me a close friend.

RIP dude, frag on with other fellow Quakers who have moved to the next life.
