The 700D actually has high input lag! ^^

Like 10-11 milliseconds at optimal settings? That doesn't exceed my preferential range of input lag. Felt nice to me. What would you recommend based on this info, nvc?

The problem you have is that no other 144Hz screen features a glossy panel, so they might all appear inferior to you on first glance. With what you have said I'd first lean toward the Viewsonic VG2401MH which is likely to offer the best colors and black levels over any other 1080p high refresh rate screen (true 8-bit panel). However it does lack certain features that the LG 24GM77 and BenQ XL2430T offer (Motion 240 and BenQ Blur Reduction respectively), yet both are 6-bit FRC like the 700D. With that said, as you're fine with the +10ms latency that the 700D supposodly has, if it was me I would actually lean toward recommending the BenQ XL2430T and using BenQ's Blur Reduction to give almost perfect clarity during fast moving scenes at the cost of reduced brightness and a slight increase in input lag. Alternatively if you want to save some money the LG 24GM77 is on par with the BenQ in terms of gaming performance, perhaps slightly better as it has more control over overdrive, but does require a little more tweaking to the colors via OSD as it has a green tint in my experience out of the box. Whilst the BenQ simply requires changing Picture Mode from FPS1 to Standard.

All models have a slight amount of inverse color trailing and from experience nothing really competes with the first/second generation 120Hz+ screens (including your 700D) in the that department, not considering Motion Blur Reduction anyway.

Alternatively, wait for the new G-Sync and Free-Sync screens that are just around the corner. Viewsonic, Iiyama, BenQ... perhaps even Samsung and LG again etc.

nvc can you recommend any 27 inch screens with thin as possible bezel?

1400p and 120hz preferred but not necessary, can live with lower refresh rate.

I currently use the BenQ XL2420T but the image quality is meh (can that be improved with Standard Picture Mode too?). I also use an Achieva Shimian 27" IPS Zero-G for my second computer. That thing looks great but has lots of input lag, gives me eyestrain, and guzzles electricity.

The supposed 8-bit panel on the VG2401MH is really appealing, although I read here that TN panels are incapable of reaching true 8-bit. Has the tech changed? I haven't noticed inverse color trailing on my monitors, thus I might get the VG2401MH. No rush at all though, so I'll check out the ones you showed me and any others that're on par with those.

The tech has changed. There are true 8 bit TN panels now. Best one is the pricey Asus Rog SWIFT (plagued by awful quality control though) but 144hz + G-Sync/FreeSync IPS is around the corner, so now is a good time to wait, for real.

I think the LG 24GM77 is a true 8 bit panel as well, it's very similar to the Viewsonic VG2401MH anyway but I'm not 100% sure.

Acer has 8 bit TN panels too. And Philips has one too (27" ,1080p, g-sync like Acer). This still doesn't make TN an amazing tech, but it's an improvement :p

And glossy is pretty rare in computer monitors nowadays yea, not a big deal to me but I can understand people who like it.

Just got one and it's awesome. It's my 3rd 120hz lcd and better than the CRT I have. ++ will buy again.

The standard VG248QE (eg: not g-sync modded) uses PWM for backlight dimming. Anything less than 100 Brightness will result in backlight flicker. On the plus side, the PWM dimming is synchronised to the refresh rate, and operates at 6x the frequency, meaning 864Hz backlight flicker for 144Hz operation. It's probably one of the best PWM dimmed backlights and probably not too noticeable, but something to be aware of in case you are sensitive to it.

How is backlight flicker meant to look? I haven't noticed any sort of flicker.

you can't "fix" its color, you can only make it slightly less than complete shit.

I've got a vg248qe and I'd highly recommend it. The colors were definitely underwhelming but I'm playing quake so let's b real as long as I can see Dat green fat shitter I ain't got no problems ya diggg? Otherwise I never really noticed any big problems that so seem to bother everyone else to death. If you're purchasing this to watch movies and things u may consider trying a dual monitor setup. One which u play on and one which u "view" things on. And this monitor being the "play" monitor obviously. In terms of people complaining about issues I think it's safe to say that comes with the territory. Popular product, lots will claim it's great while others will say it's bad.
