Fibre from a really good company, really close to the server itself.

Bandwidth shouldn't matter, but most non gigabit fibre companies are throttling or overloaded I guess, as they're simply not giving people such small levels of latency.

sya_ in the UK gets 5ms to UK servers from london on gigabit fibre, no one else I've seen on any other fibre provider in the UK seems to be getting under 16. though that could still be just that they're all only on fibre to the cabinet, I haven't met anyone else who is on fibre to the premises yet, and that is certainly something required for a gigabit connection, VDSL from home to cabinet just won't give you that.

Ok, so you actually are stupid/ignorant/unknowledgeable on the topic, as opposed to just posting an inaccurate message when you really intended to make a true statement. I can help you a bit...if you'll listen/read, and actually synthesize my message:

Bandwidth: This is how much data we can transfer at once, i.e. in one packet, from the source to the destination. We measure this in KBPS, MBPS or even GBPS if you have lots of money.

Latency: This is how long a packet takes to travel from the source to the destination. This is limited by the laws of physics. An electron can only travel at 1 speed on a copper wire. Increasing bandwidth has no affect on this. A photon on a fibre link can only travel at the speed of light. Even if we could increase this speed, Einstein tells us that this would negatively affect the latency! Finally, devices that process the data at various hops, e.g. routers, switches and firewalls, also add to latency. So, the further apart a client and server are, the longer a transmission takes, regardless of bandwidth. Adding in more network devices, e.g. transmissions between different ISP’s, worsens this.

So if you can internalize those two definitions, you'll realize that, as Yakumo originally stated, upload speed (an element of bandwidth) has nothing to do with latency.

BTW I didn't know much about this topic before today, just had to do a little research and was able to come up with this explanation for you...which is just to say/suggest that in the future, you could do a bit of research yourself, rather than posting incorrect info that may or may not be intended to stir up unnecessary controversy.

I get 9-10 most days with FTTC (70 down / 20 up), since my DLM went back to its less moany agressive state (same as the first month of having it ages ago)... prior to the last month was about 18ish.

I shaved off 20 ping by using a VPN to most servers. Do a trace-route towards servers you usually play on and check if you go through an unnecessary amount of nodes. Then do a good research on which VPN-services that provides servers closest to the objected servers, and pray to Science that you'll get lucky with the ping that your new VPN-provider will give you.

PIA. Because I get lower pings by using this VPN don't mean that you get lower ping. Its all a half-gamble.

I use VPN just to ddos servers, only thing ive found them useful forf, that and IRC

The main thing with getting super low ping is being closest possible to the server. In some countries servers are actually hosted by ISPs so you can try to switch to ISP that hosts QL server, or you may try to find ISP that directly peers with data center that hosts server. If your ISP is some hops away from server, then even 10 gbit connection won't make your ping better.

I suggest you find people with low pings and ask in what city they live and what ISP they use. Then move to that city and switch to that ISP.
