Lots of pepople said it before. Start practicing and do well in FACEITs without any whine. Show everyone you can be a good sport and competitive. If you lose due to ping or bad luck then so be it. It will happen to you and everyone else at some point - even at QCON. What is important is how you cope with it.

Basically:

* Very good results in FACEIT
* Positive attitude

Still, even if you do this there are no guarantees. If I was you I would see this as fun challange and a chance to show the community that the old whiny and insecure strenx is history and that people can change. Even if you dont get to QCON it would still be a step forward.

If you don't want to do it for the community then at least do it for yourself :) gl!

Strenx is one of the players that needs less prectice to reach the optimal form, and probably the one that needs less, but let's not forget last time he fought an official match he got beat by an unactive Cooller.

Sending an unprepared Strenx could be a waste of people's moneys, as he could be eliminated in the quarters already (if i'm not mistaking, this year there is direct elimination at quakecon).

And Strenx has unfortunately a long history of being unreliable and talking big for nothing.

So he should really start practicing seriously and competiting on Faceit sunday cups. Even a victory there wouldn't be a definite proof of worthness, since on lan his aim will drop, and even at his peak form he never managed to win a lan, but at least it could be a good sign for entertaining matches at Qcon, and it will rise Faceit interest.

This not considering the fact that, with all the moneys he won in the past competitions he should have less than 0 financial problems to buy tickets and everything else.
Even winning a third place would guarantee a complete refund of all the expenses.

Player A has a real life job and earns 10k a month but has no major quake winnings (perennial 4th place player, hehe).

Player B has no real life job (student for example) but has some 'decent' Quake winnings over many years (from 1-3rd place prizes).

Which player needs donation help? Yeah... exactly: Player B. It has nothing to do with where someone got their money from. The question is: do they have money, yes or no?

Obviously I don't know if strenx has the money or not, so these are just assumptions anyways. Overall though, it just really doesn't matter: if someone wants to donate, let them.

Being very good at his hobby and earning money with it doesn't prevent him from getting a "real job" like every other student, and I honestly think that everything has been said on this topic now.

i kinda get now why strenx struggled so much with sponsorship in the past while others seemed to have a way easier time. he seems to expect for things to just magically happen out of nowhere instead of presenting a clear idea about what hes gonna do and what he needs to achieve that. instead noone has any idea if
a) he really wants to go or not. because hes all half assed about telling anything or making clear statements
b) he is any active and dedicated towards competition. maybe he just wants to go there for the lulz and do some so-so performance?
c) whats the actual amount of money needed for him to say "yes, im going" or if he already bought tickets (aint gonna get cheaper son)

its like community and fans have the vague task to persuade him with money to do something...maybe. instead it should be him convincing everybody with a well thought out plan that he reveals in a proper manner.

The frontpage is what people, even those who don't play quake see when they stumble across our marvellous website.

i like strenx but at what point do you try to keep this dream alive?

I saw two types of people competing in events, people who were going to college while playing and getting some kind of education, and people who put everything on the line and focused exclusively on quake. I saw many semi-pros do this too, people who went to events and competed.

fast forward five years, I only see the occasional players have a respectable job or career. I won't name names, but I see some pros working for universities and others for corporate companies (working for a fortune 500 company in IT for example)

but on the other end, I see way too many of those 'put everything on the line' players working at best buy, a cell phone store, or some other mediocre job. these are people who you went crazy for in a tournament, but now they're barely making above min wage because they never perused an education or career, they just played quake and focused on that. no doubt you had players who could of been better, but college had them busy. those players looking back are pretty grateful they didn't drop out to focus on making money in quake

even when I was younger, the idea of not going to college to play games was ridiculously risky in my mind. what's the pay off in the end? how can you make a career out of playing games?

I think the cold hard truth is hitting players like strenx in the face. unless he plans to go game to game making mediocre money, he's going to need a skill or trade. playing quake for money is fun, but working a career getting thousands a month is way more secure and offers 100x more longevity than e-sports money.

I like strenx, but damn, he should be able to get himself to an event instead of getting pity money. and what a surprise it's not flowing in at all.

Pro quake players are super smart, sometimes it doesn't translate into a good paying job though. There are members of Mensa who don't do well financially. Anyways most of the quake players currently active are still in their 20's, which are the years most people struggle anyway. The older Q3 players all seem to have respectable jobs. I bet a lot of them might have got their jobs through Q3 LAN meetups and they might take some of the lessons learnt from their competitive days and apply them to real life.
