google something like XP to Nlite or xp power iso.

You can install service packs in there too, you might need to include sata drivers too.

Really, you should move onto windows 7 home premium or something.

I installed mine on vm from iso and moved the image to the real partition but I wouldn't recommend this method to anyone.

disable offline files service
disable superfetch service
disable windows defender service
disable windows firewall service
disable windows program compatibility assistant service
disable .NET framework service

local computer security policy :

disable file indexing
enable lock memory pages and disable pagefile,
allow QOS to reserve 4% of network instead of 20%
add everyone or users to : adjust memory qoutas for a process

SuperFetch is something all operating systems should have. I didn't buy 4GB of top-notch RAM just to have it sit there doing nothing during times of low memory requirements. Disabling shit is bad advice, the gains are usually small if you have a decent system to begin with (most do) and you can run into problems down the line with so and so (service) not working and have little clue how to fix it.

Any dual core PC with 4gb of ram and a SSD with no viruses on should run like a dream with everything loaded.

superfetch etc will recache you search index etc, and make your game jerk about always when you need to be shooting, along with reading textures from your page file

XP inherited security folder permissions worked, they are broke in windows 7, and what ever you do, you cannot stop services starting up using groups in your policies for login startups

that is what you have todo to make windows 7 good, you can do alot of it in your security group policy and CP add/remove windows components

Guys. The PC doesn't even have a CD/DVD drive and was on XP. I assume it's an old ass computer that wouldn't be able to run Windows 7. (As a matter of fact I wonder if it can really run XP!)

Anyway, if you successfully re-install XP, I recommend you to keep the computer off the internet.

do you HAVE to use it for older games of some sort or have a install of something you move from previous install??? otherwise srsly consider going newer. I'm on XP, but ONLY because im a stubborn asshole that need to get better control of my OCD for being able to run old games and programs.

I don't have spare RAM to waste on newer OS.
