This Wednesday, two of South Africa's finest are going toe-to-toe in a showmatch brough to you by ZootLive.

Both

Detrony and

Ph4ntom are going to Dreamhack to show the world exactly what the South African community is capable of. We have organised this event to get a glimpse of what they can do. The Europeans need to watch out.

Ins and zoot should have a showmatch for other countries as well. We have already had Sweden and now SA. Maybe get the top 2 guys to duel. We could do Russia, Poland, Spain, Germany etc..

In my opinion, if we do to many of these they will have little meaning. Maybe it is just me but i think that sparring games should be for a special reason.

I mean, we can see cooller, av3k and the guys play in the 125 fps and faceit cups. But we cant see these other players or if there is some form of rivalry then it would be cool.

I think that you might have misunderstood me here. I am saying that there shouldn't be too many of these games because they lose their meaning if they are on all the time.

That's why i don't want to see Cooller vs _ash, Av3k vs Giennon etc etc. Just to have games. I would actually rather see DDK vs Zoot casted by ins.

Showmatches are different. Especially ones without prize money. They're gonna be lot more aggressive and careless than usual.

He beat All*Aim twice at WCG 2001. Aim whined so much on something(dont remember what) that he got to replay the game. And got raped again. It was on pro-t4, and I remember Aim's cockiness when he complained about the first game, he could NEVER ever lose to ph4ntom again. Thus, making his loss pretty damn fun :)

actually it was the opposite at the beginning of the showmatch:) they play extremely agressive and that's sth they should think about before encountering more careful playstyles at dh (as admitted by ph4ntom). it's awesome to watch, but may prove problematic vs experienced players, cause they know how to counter this type of play. still those are 2 awesome players that can really upset.

i'm not talking about the showmatch per se. me and zoot were 'stalking' those 2 monday night when they were sparring and we were impressed by the level of agression. at the beginning of the showmatch though they were veeeery careful on dm13 which caught me by surprise because during the stalking session they played a high scoring dm13 as well:)

If only real contenders participate it would be a very short player list unless a big upset happens. ev1l, rapha, cypher and ofc C O O L L E R from the already released players. 4 contenders and lots of good players as you put it.

I wouldn't restrict the term contenders to the favorites... There are more players signed up than the ones you listed, who could win the tournament if they had a good day and a grain of luck. From the signed up players I would list:

Watching the showmatch the Africans looked to be more like etty - gienon - bpatela level. Not bad by any means but no chance to compete for the tournament win.

Ph4ntom's still playing very messy, mentally he's doing most of the right stuff, but his aim and movement is a bit off (Compared to how I've seen him play before). If he plays constantly until dreamhack, that aspect of his game should tighten up.

I'm not really familiar with Detrony, only having played him a couple of times in the last week, but he is most likely also a bit out of practice. Both of these players were playing and practicing CS for our national games comp less than a month ago.

if you ask me everyone that plays quake and is willing to invest time, effort & money deserves a spot @ DH.
even more so when coming from a non EU/NA region to add some color to the scene

Interesting to hear how he used to practice back in the day. It's impressive how Python and Phantom managed to do sell well at international Quake 3 events with pretty much no-one to practice with. You never really heard of any other players to even practice with whereas now although still tiny communities we seem to hear about a couple of players to practice with that are of a good enough standard.

Yeah it is actually, we have plenty of players that have the raw aim talent... Could only imagine the quality of duelers SA would produce if we had a more active and larger skill pool!
