Hey guys! I started a petition to include a separate exclusive duel map list for the monthly standard Quake Live rotations.

the only problem for me that is the servers purposely default to unplayable maps... it's not unusual to see the 3 available servers all set to fucking Quarantine or something equally ridiculous

thats why if we have atleast 2 out of 4 quality choices. this problem will not happen. we dont need more than 4 maps for standard duel.

it will happen unless all maps are quality duel maps, otherwise they're just going to purposely default to the shitty map.

I wouldn't mind if it was just 1 duel map per rotation, as long as it was playable.

Either that or just default to the playable map(s), and let people vote the shitty maps if they want to.

or even just random map allocation! but at the moment it's blatantly obvious that the playable maps are purposely avoided

Oh lol. Are you really so poor?

Do you live in garage? Do you eat grass for breakfast?
If you want to play cool maps just give ID 2 dollars per month, and you'll be happy. And they "will not loose their money" and will not listen to the whiners.

Imho ID found a good compromise. Every month there are 2-3 maps, that can played at pro level. Other maps are just for fun and also for new QL players.

ive been paying for pro for the last 2 years. they are losing money. there are standard servers which they paid for that are just there empty. might as well just get rid of the servers then. the problem lies with what quake potat posted. tehre are many standards servers stuck on maps no one likes/are unplayable. i know that maps are not all about pro mentality. with my proposal there are still possibilities for any map to get chosen. to fill that need for a "fun" map.

the mentality of "ur poor lolol" is just terrible.
the standard option is basically a free sample. why would you risk having a potentially bad free sample for duel servers? i was looking at the standard list for North America. all of them were either on devilish, terminatria, or space camp. thats just bad samples right there. i know cure and toxicity are in the list, but at the same time many servers are stuck with the other 3 maps.

This isn't about being cheap. This is about making the experience a lot better. fixing an easy problem that has not been fixed.

id found a very nice way to promote their game to newcomers - just by putting some shit maps in the map rotation list.

newcomers dont know the difference between shit maps and good maps, they just play the game, most of them will play in beyond reality and space ctf maps even if they have pro

what about the gamers who see duel on twitch? some of these gamers are competitive and are looking for a different game to play. what if they go on quake live and are stuck with bad choices. gives them a bad taste in their mouth and thats that. never see them again.

there are people who play other maps than competitive. thats fine! but theres a problem when majority of standard servers are empty with devilish terminatria space camp.

why would we have this mentality of "newcomers dont know the difference between good and bad"

ok lets show them! lets show them what majority of players whove played this game think is a good map. why subject them to shit?

if u wanna be competitive, buy the game, that's my approach to any game. you shouldn't be allowed to even play competitions with a free account, need to show that ur there to compete in some sort

get any good player of any game, and put them in ql on any shitty map, then put them on a good map, they won't feel the difference, so it's not a bad choice, they'll need to actually know what the fuck they're doing in the game to understand if the map is bad or good

its not even about buying the game to be competitive. its about quality/popularity.

standard maps are practically free samples. why would i give out shitty/unpopular free samples.

most of the popular duel maps are enjoyed by many players. there are some that like other kinds. but thats the point.

and you wont be able to compete with standard. if the map pool is even at 5 maps.

the proposal is to limit the duel rotation to 3 playable duel maps and 1 fun map.

but ins as quakepotat posted, many standard servers get deserted because its not just those 3 choices. theres devilish, nameless place, space camp ect ect. theres more than just 3. and terminatria has been deemed too big for duel by a lot of people. it really is too big!

im not saying there arent enough quality maps per rotation, but the current system makes it possible where the next 3 map votes are not even playable at all! thats where you see servers that are empty with unplayable duel maps.

You're late by over a year. Everything you said has been proposed in July 2012 ;)

And the conclusion was to keep the "3 maps for other modes on scoreboard" system, so standard players have to leave server after each game and search for another. That will teach them! You're proposing forcing map change, but keeping them on server. That's not enough, they have to suffer!

Problem however is that after a short time, there are simply no standard servers you want to play on. So if a server is empty for 30 minutes, maybe it could just go to next map automatically? So with time, it would land a playable map and maybe get a game.

Actually this may be happening already, but with timeout of like 24 hours so it's hard to observe :) Shorten to 30 minutes and we'll talk.

This way at least it would become possible to play a standard public from time to time, instead of whole server browser being full of empty servers on strange maps.

You also have to keep in mind that there is a tier ranking system and you do not see lower tiered games on your browser unless your are friends with them so you do not have all the information available to you on your screen. This is to eliminate people from a higher tier purposely creating a new account to play with lower tier level players because they see a lot of players on servers they can not join. Granted people do this anyways and its major tier slumming and that is what ruins the experience for new players. It has nothing to do with the map pool for the month. So as a tier 3-4 player you will never see free to play servers with players on them because you just do not see them.
