I suppose id itself did contact faceit for this and want to use them as advertising because of the appreciation and recognition from the community to them.

Also it means that faceit has changed from the status of some guys from the community helping out the game not to die, to official partnership with the developers of the game and id itself. They're just getting professional all the way and im happy for them.

I don't know what's with the hate with booth babes, they are present in every gaming convention, be it E3, your precious DH or quakecon.

And now suddenly everyone is flipping their shit because of that Carmac's raging article and Todd, as if booth babes are now automatically related to something evil and ruin the tournaments.
Also keep in mind that sex sells, people are more likely to approach and feel comfortable around females, the conventions are not targeted solely towards jajaveve's

The real concern here is about no updates whatsoever for more than a month.
I mean you could just stitch together a few words on twitter or ANYTHING, they've done jackshit since June 5th

No map pool announcement, no prize pool, absolutely nothing to look forward to and we're weeks away from the tournament.

Faceit > QCon > Dreamhack - Am I the only one that remembers dreamhack treating quake like a redheaded step child and dropping it from the summer event?

I wonder what QCon runs ID every year... I hope it isnt straining what must be already strained resources. I'm sure most attendees wouldn't mind chipping in $5~15 a head to cover the building rental/power/hired goons.

Eh. Dreamhack won't throw money away themselves on a Quake-tournament, they need sponsors for that. When there were no sponsors they couldn't go with QL at that event but were quick to announce QL at Dreamhack Winter, with a pretty great prizepool as well. Stop bitching about it, we should be glad they even want to give us QL after all those dropouts the last time.

I believe those guys of DH. I want to believe.

They didn't drop it. It's at DHW. They never promised it'd be at every single Dreamhack. It's unfortunate that DHS didn't have it but I'm thankful they're fighting to keep it around no matter what.

I think you're mistaking "left Quake out for an event" with "dropping Quake forever and not keeping their promises". Be glad that they've al-fucking-ready announced it at DHW with prizepool and everything. I highly doubt that they'll cancel the Quake-tournament at DHW, even though you seem to have lost some confidence in them because they were unable to find sponsors for one of their LANs.

It's not like women did anything good in Quake or any competitive game. Mods of esr will probably remove this comment due to stupid political correctness and fear of feminazis, but gaming industry (as any other industry in the mankind history) was created and is still developed by men. Female gamers and booth babes are there for fun and meant to bring more male participants. Boobs and asses are GOOD things and we enjoy them as much as babes enjoy their beauty (and paid for that, btw).
There are enough female-oriented games out there (sims, wow, barbie for NES, etc.), and it will be the end of competitive Quake if we enforce more female participants - skill level will drop immensely, chaos and hysterical talk-shows will prevail.
Hardcore competitive action like QL, UFC, MMA, Ice Hockey, Football and many others were also created and developed by men. Women are meant for other things.

It's about respect for your fellow gamer. Games are made for all types of people to enjoy. I understand sex sells in all forms but that video is an insult. There is no balance. I'd like to see a shot of a woman playing some quake, that's sexy too.
