i watched a few new girl episodes, was quite ok.

continuum, chick cop from 2077 ends up right here right now with a bunch of other people, unsure of what happened. basicly light scifi cop action/drama. took me a few eps to really get in to it to be fair, but now that ive caught up (2x8) im content with watching more of it :)

it aint like the worlds best scifi show, but then they rarely are good, i do however prefer it over fringe by a large margin. just cant get over the stereotypical wooden fbi agent act they have in fringe, but thats just me ;p

i guess continuum is mostly a continuous story with a little bit of branching out here n there, in s2 more stories get intertwined and i prefer the pacing there. check it out, u might love it, might hate it :)

Been watching Fringe too, but got stuck halfway through season 4. Main reason I kept watching was because of Walter Bishop (John Noble). Very funny dude.
But the storyline went a little downhill imho. So Fringe flew out the window of my short memory, unnoticed, like many things do.
It went straight into the large Forgotten in my small brain.
So, thanks for the reminder, imma try again to get everything out of those 30 Euro's I've spent on S4.

The bottom line is of course always the same, as it is with most series. But when you have the capability of enjoying that what you see, it is not very hard to empathize with the story.
The storylines I must say, are quite different and addictive every season.
My advice: just try season 1.
And if you remember this post afterwards, I'd like to know if you liked it or nor.
After all, tastes differ.

I couldn't get past the first episode of Person of Interest. There was a scene explaining the premise of the show with regard to social security numbers being linked to crimes (IIRC), Jim Caviezel quite rightly asked "Where did this list come from?" and got an answer along the lines of "Don't worry about that". As if anyone would accept that as an explanation. I certainly wouldn't. It's obviously a plot point for a future episode but to explain it away like that I found quite insulting so I stopped watching.

theres a few reasons for the short answer:
1. a pilot is only 45 minutes long, detailed answers means less action for the first ep
2. protection. the less you know the better

if you watched on (or read the synopsis on wiki) you would know that the software analyses all kinds of data; phone calls, credit card purchases, internet searches etc. it does this for everyone; most people's actions are ignored but some get flagged up e.g. (obvious example) a guys bank account shows hes recently gone into a lot of debt and hes also bought a gun recently...this would hint at being in trouble/linked to a murder (him/someone else). because of how powerful this could be abused in the wrong hands he limited the software so that the only information it returns is the social security number of the person of interest then its up to them to follow it.

the design was made because its officially used by the government (avoid government abuse); him accessing it was a later decision which is why theyre stuck with this limited information too

Those are good reasons for not broadcasting that they have such a system, but I think I'd have accepted any explanation for withholding such details other than the way he handled it. For example he could've lied about where they came from, or flat out refused to tell him because of X, Y, Z etc. At the time it came across as lazy writing :)

Both pretty damn good shows. Biggest gripe with The Killing was them spending episode after episode finding Jack, worrying about Jack, etc. in previous seasons. But they've corrected it this season it seems. Wasn't sure about The Americans, but I was hooked after the first episode. Matthew Rhys is awesome.

American Horror Story
Pretty good show, Jessica Lange is just great. Both seasons are good, I liked 2 a little better though.

Bates Motel
Still on the fence with this. Some episodes are awesome, others are kinda cringe worthy. Vera Farmiga is pretty good though.

Anything with Anthony Bourdain in it, the guy just rocks. And he doesn't seem to like Rachel Ray which is always a plus.

castle (a cop show for older people, but nice to play in background)
boardwalk empire (last two seasons were great)
mad men (always a top-notch, tense drama with comedic outbursts)
homeland (great first season, second was ok, low expectations for third)
new girl (took a "friends" relay race from himym)

like:
ray donovan (only pilot has aired, very promising, but sometimes it seems that they are putting too much there, too much cliche)
suits (new season starts soon)
community (superb first and second seasons, but now they are lacking direction and making fun of themselves. anyway, i like it as a whole)
house of lies (great watch for everyone who is working in corp environments)
banshee (nice take on boobs and violence)
elementary (is quite good but the new sherlock is of course better)
go on (liked it, but it's didn't go further than one season)
louie (sometimes too awkward, but that "i'm going for a talkshow" plotline was gold)
episodes (nothing much to say, but sometimes they are very funny)

do not like:
under the dome (the amount of dumbheads is too damn high)
walking dead (stopped watching after season two, for the same reason as above)
defiance (just gut wreaking bad, and i consider myself a sci-fi fan)
revolution (meh)


btw, small tip for watching tv series: most of them can be watched on a 1.3-1.5 speed. slow enough to understand, fast enough for not to consume too much time.

I love the show and recommend it to anyone. To back me up, the show is widely praised and sparks a lot of positive discussions all over. It's highly rated by critics AND users. It has huge following.

Take it as you wish, popularity does not determine value, but value often attracts popularity.

I may see why undedicated viewer may not get into the show (that's what happened to me first time) . It is very very slow and you feel like you see shit coming, it makes your blood boil to think how characters can sometimes be stupid, and that's part of the charm. You get emerged. And then come decisions... decisions... wrong decisions and blame. And small scale societies try to handle this together. Even then , there are plenty of unexpected twists and resolutions. That's what makes it spark.

I'm not the biggest fan of S03 and its characters, but I'm still dedicated to the show. It's great, and what's also cool about it that it started at the lowest budget of many popular shows, with virtually unknown actors that grew into their roles.

i dont think a slow or fast show automaticly means its bad or good, i just feel that the pace is too slow for itself. also that the walking dead uses silly writing to spark up drama, its just not very good. there are enough characters so one can most likely relate to someone, but it just feels a bit too forced sometimes, also over the top stupid (a woman with a... yes michonne)

that and zombies are overdone by now. i get its popular amongst the common folks (twilight is insanely popular, go figure) but anyone whos a little bit of a critic sees alot of flaws :> 7/10 on a good day ^^

Zombies in WD are slow and weak, which allows room for strategy, positioning, maneuring. But there are so many of them which really accentuates bad decisions. This was a deviation from standard zombie cycle. Besides, the show is hardly about zombies. It's about apocaliptical mindset, the moral challenges, and responsibility that's left. Zombies are merely a framework for the setup.

hence why letting certain people die dispite their experience with zombies is ott stupid/bad writing, just to invoke reactions from the viewers. thats not how i like my tvshows, its kind of an insult :x

at this pace s4 wont be worth watching. i do agree with you as far as season 1+2 go, just have a feeling weve seen it all and now theyre grasping at straws. not gonna tell anyone to stop watching the show, just to be a lil more critical, maybe all the sheeple will stop voting it a 10/10 ;p

But having it be a character study only works if you have the writing and acting to pull it off. The show doesn't. Any praise outside of the makeup fx work is drummed up by AMC themselves. They're pushing the zombie/gore angle as much as they can. Then go so far as to create some pseudo talk show for it as well. I will say the acting has improved slightly in season 3 compared to the first 2. I mean Rick for example, his heart-felt speeches and talks were a little less cringe worthy than they were in s1 and s2.

And the writing, well I could make a laundry list about how shit it is, but I'll just say I can't take a show at all seriously when they need a "token black guy".

I like zombie movies. I like Dawn of the Dead, 28 days/weeks later and my all time favorite survival games are Resident Evil 1,2 and 3.
I thought Im gonna *love* The walking dead, especially after reading so many good reviews.

But no. TWD is cheap, boring and predictable. But thats not the biggest problem: The show cant decide whether its serious about itself or not.
You have this group of people struggling to survive, theyre exhausted, starving even. And they all have perfect makeup, nails and haircuts every day. You have all these ugly and dangerous zombies rotting around the world for a year now, still, their clothes is nothing but a little bit dusty and any 50kg blonde chick can crash their skull with a butterknife.
The writers are trying to desperately copy Romero, but they forget that he made fun of himself even before he became senile.
And I could go on. This shit just kills the survival atmosphere - and with that gone, its just another beverly hills thriller with a cliche bad guy, who collects heads and hides them in his closet. Yawn.

Its 2013. You now need something more than 'shoot them in the head' to make a good zombie show.

I'll definetely try the next view episodes. But if nothing unexpected happens in the story, there's nothing interessting left. The charactes seem to be pretty stereotypical and predictable.

Well, yeah. It's a typical King story. I kinda like them since I was a child. If the series stays true to the book, I will definitely keep on watching.

the character of Hannibal Lecter is played so interesting by mads mikkelsen. it is classy just like hopkins but rather cool and more powerful. it is really a delight to watch him.

I do like mads mikkelson but I think the way his character has developed is wrong, never once have you seen the scary-tear-your-face-off-with-his-teeth-while-asking-if-you-want-a-cup-of-tea side of Hannibal. Instead you get all this pointless soul-searching that was ok at first but really got annoying towards the end. I've watched the whole season and I found the show very disappointing. Big fan of the movies and books, but this has been a big let down!

then again nothing in the franchise has really been good since silence of the lambs. red dragon is the exception, but as its basically manhunter so yeah

No, AMC is trying to drag that shit out as long as they can because they know they don't have another show with the substance that one has. I suspect the walking dead will fizzle at some point (even geeks will tire of zombies eventually, that's about all that show has going for it) as the acting is so-so and the writing is complete shit (and I'm not even talking about compared to the comics). You can also see they're desperately trying to jump on the reality tv bandwagon, how many reality shows have they intro'd in the last 6 months, 3, 4? Notice the caliber of movies they show has drastically declined as well. Once upon a time it was a channel where you could view a Hitchcock masterpiece, now it's home to the likes of "The Marine", "Godzilla", and "CSI Miami". At least there's still TCM.
