try clean cfg maybe?

I have an organized config, but my psu died last night so that was probably the issue.

What OS do you use? Ever since I switched to windows 7 I had problems with q3 engine games, sometimes I managed to get it working playable, but never completely without fps dropping at least a couple of times in game.

I use a second partition with windows XP now to play q3, because it's just been fucking frustrating.

switched to 7 myself recently and the following is my experience:

Minimizer for cpm stopped working, and alt+enter goes into retard mode (you can, however, alt tab normally, but any window which is located in your primary monitor cannot be reached, as the quake window cannot be minimized so it takes up your shit) so that's basically people without a dual monitor fucked. On top of that, your second monitor gets like a +400% gamma injection while the game is running that makes reading black-on-white text difficult.

To fix the gamma issue on other monitors, try r_ignorehwgamma 1. Fixed it for me a while ago.

Since switching to Q3E client I can play in a borderless window and alt+tab, but still can't find a way to properly minimize the game. This doesn't bother me much though and is much better than not being able to alt+tab at all.

I got rid of my q3minimizer program (trips out post-vista anyway) and instead alt+enter to leave fullscreen mode. To minimize quake, just toggle desktop (windows key+d) and voila.
