Like aero it has two GA, YA and RA + mega, but unlike aero it has so many cut offs that all these items allow a ton of defense. Maybe if a wall or two was knocked out..

Specifically, it would be great if the wall at LG tele exit / green armour was knocked down and that third level extended around a bit more. Then take away the green armours from the map and introduce another yellow, classic 4 item map.

everytime i played i wanted to go to ya from top mh level :S another exit would be fine as hell, even if it was just drop to mid level :S


removing ga would be drastic, as theres no space for another yellow, but replacing yellow with ga looks reasonable... and i feel theres too many shards.

you can basiclly get 100+ armour on "weak"side of map, in 30 seconds.

I liked the few matches I played, but feel that you can get from MH to RA so fast. Rail, LG and RL together with MH and RA are on the same side. We had a few spawns very close to the killing location, but that could even out with more matches played.

I hope it will be in the cups.

Does anybody else think it would be cool if there was a door/hole/opening in the wall at lower shards so you could see through to RA and spam it? I thought that was how it would be when I first saw it.

Also, I want a way of going through the map. Feels a bit too circular.

And maybe you could put the upper GA to the staircase (above 50hp)

I thought about again and i think one problem is the following:

From the RA-Side of the map you have 3 entries to the mega. You can go low-> tele, mid jump or high jump.
When you go tele or high, you even get a +25 armor with a detour of 0.5 secs

But you can't acces mega. Only from one level: the mid level. So when you are out of control, you can get armor (like 100, whith shards etc.) but no mega, since taking it takes a lot of time. So you are doomed to only do dmg on the item.

On other maps, lets say t7, you can acces the mega from both (weak and strong) sides of the map "equally)

Just a random thought. I still like cure, even in the current configuration, but I find it difficult to play out of control. Maybe I'll figure out how to do it, like on silence.

same here. playing the map out of control is really difficult. but opponent awareness on new maps needs time anyway. you basically have to be at the big items at least 5 seconds earlier to damage and take non (positioning without making noise otherwise ur getting ur assed kicked.)

also it feels like getting rail often is a waste of time as well because u r out of position when u go for it. most games i played were with little to no rail use. but i played usually vs high aim/ fast players that rushed, rushed rushed.

maybe we can play a few games to see what could be done.

1200 elo people shouldnt be making maps. The RA area is a neat idea, and MH aswell, except that he put the LG there, I mean, wtf?

As nymphets said, its too easy to maintain control since the weapons are in such open areas. especially the LG. the LG should be in a closed space, and RL in an open space, like Dm13. Not the other way around. The rest of the layout is full of crap, its not as smooth as other maps, just packed with barrels and other crap.

Not sure if this is news to you but understanding how the game works and being able to play the game at a high level are two different things. I have watched every Quake Live Lan event from the first god damn quakecon in 2008 as well as a majority of the big online cups and I could write you an essay on how movement, timing and weapon usage make quake what it is.
I don't play duel and I never even really tried, simply because I lack the time in life to put enough effort into it - however, that does not say anything about me being eligible to create maps for this game.

Playing and watching the game are 2 different things. If 2 people would play duel vs each other, 1 that had watched all tourneys, and 1 that hasnt, they would both have close matches, it doesnt give you much watching tourneys, and I know this because I have also watched every single LAN event and most online tourneys.

As far as I know guard, k1llsen, czm and baksteen liked it and still do so what now? Imo it is not a top notch map but still very enjoyable to play as you can be successful with different types of play. Only thing I'd like to see would be a bigger playable map.

And yet that is completely irrelevant because for making a map you do not need the mental stability, timing and aiming skill a good duel player needs.
You need to know how geometry and position influence weapon choice, you need to know how people play in control and out of control as well as all of the other theoretical aspects. To learn this you can either play the game or watch the game. From what I know, most high level players and those who want to be watch demos and VODs because it gives them a good opportunity to analyze their own play and their opponent's play in order to work out what they can improve. Same idea, different context.

the same thing can be said about route-setters for indoor rockclimbing - many of them don't climb much or at all, but they understand the dynamics of body movement and so are able to set good routes.

So to uaLaskij: Cityy's maps are typically quite good, so I think the best thing to do is to provide constructive criticism when appropriate and quite being a prick to someone that is putting in a lot of time/effort to make QL better.

Only jumped through the map a bit and watched two matches. What I like about it is that it is very much positional, therefore has an old school vibe. Also some areas are awesome.

Of course improvement can be made, but it'd be better to ask the rapher and the chypa instead of us really, and, most importantly, there's no way appreciations can be spot on only days after the map's release.

The only thing I noticed is that one jump could be made a bit more reliable, easier and in the end add more flow to the map, which is the one with the advertising sign of the YA/RL area. 12:35 of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f4hjoI1gIc .
Video doesn't show it but it's on the upper right side of the screen. Idea is jumping from the second floor to the third using the ledge of the advertising. It works but not 100% of the time without losing speed.

Don't know why but for me fixing an already released map is like rewriting a released song or repainting a painting. Feels wrong for some reason...

all classic q3 duel maps are modified in ql and it's safe to say they are all better this way (maybe not aero).l

but those are minor fixes and small item-changes pretty much. What people demand in Silence's case is a complete graphical rework (change of the color theme) that is not something small, it changes the feel of the whole map (not in a gameplay- but aestetics-aspect), I'm not sure that if I were the autor I would agree to such changes.

Still I agree that it isn't quite the same as the examples I stated above. A song always has fans and haters (in the ideal case the autor makes the song to express his feelings and doesn't give a shit about the audience) and a picture is also only an expression of feelings. A map on the other hand is pretty much dead and forgotten if it doesn't please the crowd (like it is the case with hundreds of maps on lvlworld).

Edit: Just to make it clear, I am aware of what maps jamalz asked fixes for, still Silence is the best example atm imo.

Plenty of opportunities for spawnfrags and chasing down, yet there are choke points and spaces for people out of control to move backwards on - as well as enough resources to keep yourself alive.

When I first saw cure it felt too big for duel but it feels much more tighter when playing, all major areas are well connected.
