So I'll only have my laptop for the next couple of months and would still like to play quake live, could someone point me to a high fps config? I have a Thinkpad X220 with an i5-2410m and HD 3000 graphics. In addition to this, I have an egpu setup with a desktop GT 430; basically it's like having an entry level discrete laptop gpu. What settings can I configure to try and get 120fps? And how important is lowering the resolution? (800x600 vs 1024x768)

i have a gt430, 2gigs of ddr2 800 and an athlon 64x2 6000

your laptop will run quake live fine if you tweak your 3D settings in Nvidia control panel.

outside of that, 640x480 and disable everything you can in the menu.

I would advise you if any CFG doesnt get you the holy 125FPS to decrease the resolution. GL man.

Go to the menu -> preset -> high performance
Then decrease resolution until you get satysfying fps.
Other tweaks don't affect fps on modern PCs.

Ye tweak your Nvidia settings,turn of AA,Vsync and stuff to be sure :)
Tbh there isnt to many things in the cfg that change your fps "alot".

Mayby change shadows,lightning,postprocess and res tho.

Edit: I hate to say this but Heartless cfg is prolly a good start imo :)

resolution 800x600: higher res=lower fps
picmip: well higher picmip/lower texture= better fps?
post process: off
lighting model: vertex
dynamic light: off
players shadow: off
skybox: off
water distortion: off
atmospheric effect: off
i think this is most important settings for fps
i have crap comp with some cheap celeron,ati radeon 9200/64mb and 512 ram and have 120 fps stable

i forgot dont play ql in browser,instead that use ql prism or original prism (i use clean prism,qlprism with his last addons begins to behave like browser)

No one ever mentioned about smoke radius and smoke trail. I helped a couple of friends to setup decent stable 125 fps configs on low spec rigs and disabling smoke for rl, gl and sg did helped alot. Also i think that lower lodbias will help and drawgun 0, though it might be just a placebo.

I know :)), but surprisingly i've seen a lot of cfgs with smoke trails enabled from people not so new to quake.

Actually helps a bit figuring out the angle rockets are coming from. Switched it on after playing with trails in qw for a while for that reason.

Ql runs fine on my 6 year old laptop with c2d 1.83 GHz and radeon mobility 1700 :) so don't worry.

Thanks for all the help guys! 125fps solid with no frame drops, now if only I didn't have to deal with a 60hz laptop screen.

my laptop runs ql in native resolution which is somrthing like 1366xwhoknows at 125 on most duel maps, have some problems on crap like asylum, but apart from that it's perfect.

get my config at my profile ^^

press downarrow ingame after loading the cfg, and then bam, lodbias 2 tankjr and fov 90 ;)
