I need to look more into this... I remember RalliSport Challenge 2 on the Xbox (wrong spelling and everything). It was, by far, the greatest racing game I had ever played.

Mirror's Edge is really good, but also very short. ;)

There were a lot of other issues with the game imo. The PC gameplay wasn't always the best in my opinion, also it was always a very guided trip to the finish, would have been funnier to have a lot of different ways to reach the ends of the levels.

That said I liked it a lot

You might like Jonathan Blows' lecture(s) on wasting a players' time (even if it is not directly relevant here). Simulating a mechanic to get "them" addicted, and wanting more is not only bad design, it's almost if not exactly IMMORAL.

You tube his lectures. They're quite intriguing. Most better than others.

Bear in mind the amount of time and money they would have had to invest to give everything detailed textures that met today's texture standards, and subsequent lighting, shading, etc...

I also dislike the hipster gayness aspect of it but I understand the benefits this art direction has on an indie game-developer's bank account.
