quakeworld is just plain ugly i always turn off textures to make it look on par with todays modern looking games.

texture packs fix this but not for custom maps and thats sort of sucks

its more of a stylistic issue with being really old looking mainly due to the fact that it was trying to be the 3d game all the textures had to be almost white and black

no its not just graphics its also the complexity of the ezquake client, the community is too closed in, reminds me of quake live pro community, those guys dont really seem to care about people from outside

ive checked maybe 10 games in qw, played 2v2 tdm with good players and duel against div0's. i really dont see how they are "closed in"

My issue with QW (and I don't pretend to be competent at the game.)

1. Stairs stop strafe
2. LG = LOL
3. RL = LOL
4. Spawns = LOL
5. Maps = LOL

Somehow the SKILL of the players has convinced the populace that the game is good, and worthy.

No. It isn't. It fucking sucks ass, but it has qualities that I adore such as no rail, but X depends on Y and on we go until a full sequence of LOGIC is fed unto the populace.

I'd argue this is a criminals games. Oh gee... the maps suck? YOU SUCK.. Oh gee, the LG is too strong... YOU CAN'T USE IT! Oh gee, the spawns are horrific... FUCK YOU.

All of this is true. But....?

I've debated this game endlessly, and for TDM I find it a much more worthy game than at Duel.

1. Stairs stop strafe
You should actually thank whoever decided they'd keep that in instead of coding a "fix", that's what makes stairs important for the flow of the maps and not just another portion to strafe through. Going down stairs takes time to if you don't want to give your position away.

2. LG = LOL 3. RL = LOL
The weapons are all highly situational, and the metagame is incredibly complex, it's just that you never put yourself in the right situation : with your rl or lg out.
Armor actually matters in this game.

4. Spawns = LOL
Die less, kill people more. They're equally good/horrible for both players.
5. Maps = LOL
Blame Australia, they lost the floppy disk with ztn and aerowalk we sent them 15 years ago, dm2 reminds them of the no man's land and I heard dm4's kinda like their adult club scene.

no point when reload just runs around raping everyone's asshole in dm2

OSP was ze best. was so fucking hard to aim but aim fellt always stable and not so fucking random.
