No one cares about keyboards polling rate, except Razer guys.

If you can't even tell the difference between it being 1000hz or not, surely its not worth having.

1000hz keyboards are a gimmick.

Sure, overclocking a mouse polling rate has some benefits because we can see/track the mouse movement with our eyes (for the sake of argumenting, let's call it the eye refresh rate).

Pressing keys with 125hz (8ms) is fast enough.

7ms is a gain too, small one but still =)

7ms are literally nothing on keyboards (125hz 8ms to 1000hz 1ms), as it won't impact performance by any means except 7/1000 of a second (unreal best case scenario) in a device in which reflexes don't matter at all in any game (name one, not even SM with a keyboard is). In mice the less delay difference is so subtle (for quakers that complain about anything that's not 125fps 120hz, not to some random kid playing cod on his sofa) it doesn't really matter unless it's a 1.1 sensor or something very old.
The delay between pressing the actual key and signal being sent to the PC, for example travel distance and whatnot, is much more than this 7ms difference and no one cares about that.

Actually it most probably is detrimental to your gameplay as the cpu and motherboard (usb power) will struggle with 1000hz keyboard, even more so if you have a 1000hz mouse at the same time. It won't be steady 1000hz (which fluctuations are subtle but noticeable on mice tracking), that combo won't work in most laptops (usb power) and it'll lead to small fps stutters in lots of PCs, which rages quakers.

Of course I use 1000hz mice with 1000hz since that's the way it is intended to be used, with less it could not work perfectly, but if you are designing a mice it's a gimmick really. Moreover what you gain from 500hz to 1000z is 1ms less but with twice the issues, so 500hz is the perfect spot if you are concerned about milliseconds (500hz 2ms).
On the other hand there's not a single 1000hz keyboard that I like. All are this gaming cheap things that I can't stand, so even if those 7ms were to make a difference (which it doesn't, isn't steady and causes other problems) I much prefer a decent pcb, build quality, layout and so on (it's not all about switches).

Nope. It's easier to dodge because of netcode, the game feeling, but not because of input reflexes. Pressing "A" 7/1000 of a second earlier won't make you dodge a rocket, and again that's on the best case scenario in which the keyboard always works at 1000hz (which it doesn't) and without causing other problems (which it always does no matter the pc).
Moreover, having that 7ms less delay won't make you better on extreme cases, such as stepmania w/keyboard player or sc. All inputs done with a keyboard are not about reflexes (fast reaction having a positive consequence) so it's a complete gimmick. The same can be said about mice, as you compensate that will moving it to the spot, but theoretically it could matter (I don't think it has costed someone a frag though, of course talking about a decent mouse against an abyssus for example)

A device that will help you dodge easier if you have 7ms less is a better screen, nothing more. And on those "we" are really picky (lcd 60hz against 120hz, or crt against 120hz lcd).

We are talking about a 7ms difference, not 200. Also there's no input device that acts real time and there are a lot more aspects to be considered when talking about delay (this is very simplified), so 7ms are nothing really.

You have to consider 3 things:
- Not a single game relies on keyboard input reflexes, as in pressing the key faster which is different than noticing it faster (screen for example) and acting accordingly. Not even the extreme cases work like that and won't give you an advantage.
- You compensate for delay, though it obviously is less enjoyable if it is noticeable (7ms on a keyboard is not) and could be detrimental if there's a 200ms just on the signal after pressing the button (which doesn't happen, ever).
- Lets put it this way: there must be someone who tested a razer keyboard delay, all aspects included and in which a persons reaction or bias does not matter, against a ....125hz filco reds. I'd bet money on that the filco is considerably faster. If I were to devote myself to stepmania with a keyboard (rofl) I'd get one of these shitty flat keyboards jamerio likes, though the best one ever released and not what he can get with his unemployment pension.

tl;dr: just like with all "gaming device" discussions, this doesn't matter. Get something decent and play.

Ok this possible struggle and microlagging is a good point, but I didn't suffer from it yet except 1 time but I got rid of it with trimming down my ql friendlist because it was account related, I wrote in another thread.

But because I think you like to call people "a noob loolloololollolo" I give you another point: I am still using my mouse with 125 hz and won't change it until I get one where I can set the clocking rate via drivers/firmware.. probably bst's new mouse when it will be shipped.

I think bst's mouse is going to be 500hz lol. "My criteria" applied to the perfect gaming mouse instead of gimmicks.

Hope he starts making keyboards too lol. The "ultimate keyboard" does not exist yet, though there are some close enough and there's a lot about personal preference (though a ibm m is objectively better than a shitty laptop kb).
Mine are small tenkeyless mechanical keyboards that have arrow keys not touching alt/ctrl/shift/enter, with regular sized keys. Filcos are good (probably I'm the only one of my country that owns one rofl) but they can be perfected a bit, being a blend with the hhkb2 (sort of a japanese hhkb but better).

As far as I know It can be set to 125hz, 250hz, 500hz, 1000hz. But It's not my "main" criteria for a new mouse either, otherwise I would already have one which supports clocking settings via drivers :)

It's a similar factor to playin quake, like using supplements for bodybuilding I guess..

Some work fine and give you opportunities, if not seen even as essentials like aminos and creatine(eg 120hz lcd, lower ping), some are more of a placebo.. like tribullus terrestris(probably 1000hz keyboard?)..

But why not use it if you have the option, even it's not essential for better playing?

And I bought the keyboard because its mechanical input not because of the 1000hz connection to the pc. You could now argue razer only sells overpriced products, but I won't elaborate on this :]

Any razer keyboard can't be compared with a decent mechanical keyboard, or any razer product against the real deal really.

In the end what we are trying to say is rofl bought a razer product what a noob loolloololollolo.

Because if you understood the keypress + key actuation theory you wouldn't ever say 1ms or even 5ms makes a difference.

If you already own it, then sure, stick with 1000hz but make sure it's stable.

edit: wait a second, are you uing p/s2 or USB?

USB, I already read in another thread that it could be good to run keyboard via p/s2 and mouse via USB.. but that's now the way it is: mouse+keyboard both via USB.

You're missing out.

USB@1000hz polling is still slower than p/s2.
ps/2 sends interrupt signal which is faster than 1000hz polling





There's also no ghosting on ps/2.
Only go with USB if your PC lack the port.

BUT there's a growing fanbase of people who prefer USB over p/s2, I haven't managed to figure out why though
